Yeah, it really is a shame. Luke Evans would have been great too in the role.
Luke Evans was my first choice as he's younger and thus could bulk more easily, but Keanu was a close second. He's got the regal features Namor needs, and ever since Wick he's shown he can pull off the tranquil fury. Both of them had very nice fanarts and it's a shame we got what we got.
They just scream Namor. Even Momoa would've been a great Namor if he just played Drogo again. He's got the look, build, eyebrows and presence. MCU Namor isn't even Namor, he's an OC with the name tacked on. Namor's not his name, he doesn't come from an ancient undersea civilization, he's not regal but also a prick- whatever, I'm rambling again. I'm just so disappointed...
Reeves seems to be pushing for Ghost Rider since he loves bikes, but I'm kinda "eh" on it. I got tired of GR years back. There's only so much an aesthetic can take you when you have pretty much 0 comics above mediocrity. The Ennis/Clayton Crain minis were cool looking, and the Ketch series is nice in a 90s way but beyond that there's not much. I wouldn't be able to justify 600€+ on a GR doll just because of Keanu (I'd try to score the HS for a Namor kitbash at best). Generally I've had other roles for him in my mind. He's been doing the everyman/badass bit for a while, and I'd like to see him as something more derebral like the Silver Surfer, or even a new take on the Beyonder. But if they kept Johnny as the Carnie "low rider", Robbie as the everyman rider, and then had Keanu as an older, more experienced and Biblical Rider, with the Zadkiel Danny Ketch look, I could be tempted.
I agree, the films are getting more ridiculous. But it's all in the right sense of it, IMO. As much as I love the amount of John Wick that we're getting, I hope that they end the main line sooner rather than later. I want them to end the story of John on a killer note. I don't want to see it mined where the quality drops.
Spin offs have a high bar set. I'll be there though.
A part of me misses the comfier look of the first, but I can't deny that I'm also enjoying the continuously escalating global high class assassin aesthetic as well. They are fun, well made, action flicks, so I don't it getting expanded. But yeah, we don't need to reach the point of the 10th pre-three-quel or whatever. Finish the story, fluff it a bit with some specific spin-offs, and leave it at that.
There's also rumours of a AAA game being developed, which has me pretty intrigued.
