Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

Im sad that the costume designer used the same ribbed undersuit. Is this going to make his articulation crap like the TFA trooper?

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

I realize many people have an issue with new trooper designs just popping up before ANH, but you have to look at it from a military point of view. Death Troopers are like the Seal Team 6 of the Empire. They are special forces troops, so you can't expect them to necessarily be stationed on the Death Stars, the Endor moon, or even Tatooine. They could be based out of a world we haven't seen, or one we haven't seen since the prequels (Coruscant). We really only saw a small sliver of the Star Wars universe on screen, so it is plausible that there are a variety of troopers and equipment we have not seen before.

As far as the basic Stormtrooper design being changed for RO, that is just Disney stupidity.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

This looks fantastic? I guess these guys are huge. Not Vader height but probably 6'6" - 6'8".

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

From RO I plan to get two of these guys to put behind Krenic and I want 2 regular stormtroopers since I missed out on the OT stormtroopers released last year. I probably won't get any rebels unless they really stand out in the movie.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

I'm assuming the seal team 6 idea but I expect they'll get wiped out and just never replaced.

It's not terrible, IMO. Minor updates for added realism and greater mobility. I would have been just as happy without the changes, but these don't bug me too much.

This is my biggest concern as well. I wish it was the same material used for the ANH Stormtroopers.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

You mean by introducing 3 new troopers that exist 5 seconds before ANH that we never see again?

I like that they're all different and all feel OT though. ANH had a lot of parts borrowing--sandtrooper, spacetrooper, were both just stormtroopers with extra ****. Even the TIE pilot helmet borrows.

I've always figured that the Empire's military functioned like the real world military. Different armor for different theaters of war and specialized units makes sense.
Storm Troopers would be your basic grunt
The Shore Trooper looks like he's prepared to fight on tropical worlds (I'd imagine wearing full Storm Trooper armor in a place with a climate like Vietnam would be terrible)
The Death Trooper looks like some kind of SF or Commando type, but with them being only attached to Krennic I'd imagine there's a bit of fanaticism in them as well.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

I'm wondering if there's some genetic enhancement going on with the Death Troopers being so huge. Perhaps Krennic has his own little laboratory where his scientists cook up batches of super troopers.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

I like the new designs and have no problem with how the fit into the rest of the SW world. But I want to see the movie first, which I'm looking forward to, and see how I like the characters before I commit to buying them.

It's interesting that it seems that his tall height is a specific characteristic--like, only people 6'4" and up can apply for the position!

Edit: Just saw Full Metal's post. :exactly:

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

I was was wondering the same thing... It does feel odd having these more advanced troopers introduced prior to the OT, but maybe if it's something very specific to him (sort of a pet project) that at least makes sense why you wouldn't see them later on. With trying to track down Luke, Leia and Han you really think the empire would send out some Death Troopers if they had them handy :lol

But, that's enough speculation for me... I need to stay away so I don't get any unintentional spoilers.

The Vader belt buckle does bother me though, I hadn't noticed it before the HT figure and it really just sticks out as a weird choice.

Pure speculation, MoLu. That was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the height difference between the Death and Storm troopers.

As a kid, I just accepted that flared helmets as seen on Vader and the "Death Squad Commander" i.e. Imperial Naval Troopers -- was the fashion/style/design trope for a galaxy far, far away, though not in so many words. I can accept the buckle as same because of that, I guess.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

I have a hard time getting past their absence on either Death Star. I will be the first to say it may be over thinking it a bit, but where was all this advance hardware when the Empire really needed it? I love the look, but probably will not get one.

No one....? Okay:

*ahem*

"AREN'T YOU A LITTLE SHORT FOR A DEATH TROOPER?"

Maybe there were very limited numbers of them, maybe they were absorbed by some other unit or division with different armour/no armour, or they were offscreen killing *other* rebels and went on to found the First Order. Lotsa possibilities.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

I'm really liking this. One odd thing I noticed is the lack of the module on the side of the helmet. In the production pics posted earlier, it appears accurate for this trooper to not have it, but the SS Premium Format (which is also a "specialist") does have it. Seems like Sideshow got it wrong, unless it's like an "officer" attachment or something.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

Perhaps the Death Troopers are clones? Palpatine used Jango Fett as the DNA source for the prequel troopers, so perhaps the Death Troopers use Anakin's DNA. It would make sense for Palpatine to duplicate his most prized "lethal weapon". It could explain why Vader greebles are being used in the Death Trooper design, and why they are taller than a Stormtrooper.

I've really tried to sell myself in the same way. I do agree with your assessments, I just haven't caved in yet, I supposed.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

I like them all, just don't really want to see 3 new troopers with every spin off.
