Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

Very cool. Will not collect from R1 but still this looks great so far.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

Pass. Not excited for this at all. Director Kremlc? Maybe.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

I'm off on my own I guess but I will pass... this does not appeal to me at all. Since this was right before ANH I guess the new designs still just don't make sense to me other than merchandising of course. Maybe the movie will change my mind

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

Kinda cool but I feel like we just went through a "tons of reboots of classic trooper designs" phase with TFA less than a year ago.

I think I'm all trooper variant'ed out.:lol

This one looks like they put a Biker Scout, a sandtrooper and a black hole trooper in a blender.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

Finally some high end collectible teasing for Rogue One. It seems we'll get more than one of this trooper. As "specialist" troops, they must be wearing distinct gears from one another. I foresee at least a 2-pack coming beside this lonely trooper.

Instant buy!
Yeah I can see that too. Since I won't be able to buy all the variants I'll have to pick and choose which ones. For my wallet's sake I hope there's not too many things to choose from haha

Right on. Looks like some shopped Toy Anxiety and just tossed a bunch of random stuff on a Black Hole Stormtrooper.

Overcooked.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

Might get this one. Kinda feels like a Shadow Trooper with some added pieces and a redesigned helmet. If the price is right though I may cave.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

There is a ton going on with this guy, sort of like the Jakku trooper (could maybe be called Splinter Cell trooper). My main concern is just weather that hinders articulation etc. Already disappointed that they used those same rubber elbows from TFA, which are really restrictive and kink on the figures. I'm not sure I'll buy this guy other than to check it out for a bit though as I like the look.

I think the old Shadow Trooper was a little bit uninspired personally. I think I prefer all of these R1 troops to the TFA ones. Would have been nice if they'd settled on these for that movie and just had troops from the OT in Rogue One with maybe one new addition or something. Oh well.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

I'm going to go broke between this and the Imperial Troops that were teased at SDCC.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

Interested in seeing the movie first. I like that it falls in line closer to my precious OT. I haven't stepped outside of OT collecting, unless you want to count the Smartphone remote control BB8 by Sphero, but that was more just for the fun and novelty. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed TFA, I didn't overcook my thoughts on whether it was amazing or crappy repeat, just enjoyed it. OT is where the heart is, so I don't spend too much time overthinking the new stuff. We did that enough with the prequels (they still suck tho! lolzzz). Anyways this COULD be the line I step out of OT collecting for, but I'd have to see the movie first. I just like that it falls so directly in the storyline of the originals. But keeping in mind there are SOOOO many great OT figures on the way and even MORE to come, so I likely wont buy into this line, but we shall see!!! Let's not forget the movies to come... more spinoffs with more possible OT timeline related stuff.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

While I'm not interested in owning a 1/6 Death Trooper, I find myself digging the overall aesthetic. Regarding Rogue One collecting...I think the design elements they use are for the most part a good mesh with the Original Trilogy, and will likely amend my official collecting focus from Original Trilogy to Original Trilogy Era; unless Rogue One is an utter failure of a film that leaves me totally disgusted, but I doubt it could be that bad.

I'm just not sure some of the stuff teased in rogue one is going to jive with the OT. Rocket launchers, karate, neon green lit up death squad, etc........where was all this stuff in ANH? We all know that elapsed time between films, real world technology, a changing of the guard with disney, and several other factors is what led us here but it doesn't really make it feel any less out of place to me thus far. I am still excited to see the film, but less so after the most recent trailer.

As far as the toys, I haven't completely ruled them out. Maybe rogue one will surprise me and be great. But I suspect that I will be more interested in building a squad of OT snowies and a small death star crew.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

Well I think it's important to keep in mind that while this is set in the same universe that it's not a typical Star Wars story. So there are excuses for things we haven't previously seen. Personally I'm interested in seeing how it expands the overall feel of the Star Wars universe.

Re: Hot Toys Rogue One Death Trooper Specialist

Yeah, I'm the same. There has to be some new cool stuff, but enough of the familiar. Which I think it appears they've done very well btw.
It's like what Gareth Edwards said in the sizzler trailer. If you stick with the old, and don't come up with something slightly new or different, then what are you bringing to the table ?
Plus what would Hasbro, HT, LEGO etc have to sell ?

I am too, and am both excited for the movie and trying to keep an open mind. Star Wars (OT) overall has a very unique aesthetic in the world of sci-fi and while I understand the desire to do "something new" within it, there runs the risk of bringing in outside elements that may be unique specifically to the Star Wars film world but have been done before in other films and run the risk of muddying the waters a bit as TurdFurguson pointed out.

Others have said it before though, there will always be the OT and nothing else like it, the rest is sort of just gravy at this point, just looking for enjoyable flicks really.
