Hot Toys MMS 434 - Grand Moff Tarkin and Darth Vader Figure Set

I’m getting this set Friday with boba fett .

Just got my Tarkin/Vader set yesterday... now the seeds of modification are germinating...
The first thing that leaps out at me is repainting the chest armor.
I haven't dared to try removing the head yet, but I want to find out if the eye lenses are transparent or not. If they are, I'd like to paint the insides of them a subtle transparent red tint, as is often seen in the film. I suspect they are solid black plastic though, unfortunately.
I might modify one of the hands so it can hold up my SS Captain Antilles by the throat.

I know others have thought of and/or done a bunch of other mods... any ideas?

So like others who got this set on release my Tarkin's tunic ended up coming undone where the magnet is. I still don't understand why this was even a feature, the tunic isn't removable, there's no point of having a magnet in there anyways and they didn't even stitch it in they glued it in place and glued the fabric over it... head scratcher. Saw this issue on this thread a few months back, got some Loctite glue per the forums advice and that did not work at all. Loctite didn't stick the magnet to the fabric and bled through. I ended up having to use hot glue, which was not ideal but it worked. No idea how long it'll hold up, but pretty much as good as new. So, if anyone else ends up having this issue, save your time/money/figure and don't user superglue just use a hot glue gun, worked for me.

Yeah I just had that issue with mine too. I was able to use a fabric glue stick to reattach it (making sure to fold the flap back while it dried overnight), and that seems to have worked. At least for now.

Mine stayed with fabric glue for a few weeks but separated after a while. Kind of annoying, but doesn't take too much away from the figure.

I used E-6000 glue on mine. I also don't get why HT needed to have this removable flap part, should have been stitched from the factory.

The Imperial code keys bother me the most.
They're a bit over-sized... and the little pockets they slip into are sewn too high up, which can't be changed. I could re-attach the rank badge higher, but that would uncover its original attachment mark on the fabric, and then the badge would sit too high... I think we're stuck.

The only possible (partial) fix I can think of would be to custom-make a whole new set of four code keys that are under-sized (or cut about 3mm off the existing ones) so they sit slightly lower at the top, to de-emphasize them and draw the eye's attention more toward the rank badge.

One mod I've been considering is to remove about 3/4th millimeter from the silver outside rim of the rank badge, but that would work against drawing the eye's attention to it... I just REALLY wish HT had sewn the pockets 6mm lower...

1/6 scale Tarkin mocks my OCD... Just look at that smug, sappy grin... he's loving this.

Got Vader this week and got a chance to take some decent pics. Love this figure! Happy to have him next to Anakin for now, but will pair him with Emperor when he comes.

Very cool pose, very ominous.

It seems the natural lighting created the perfect look on his mask under the dome as well, it almost looks like the same emphasis put upon the upper curvatures of his mask as in the films.

Haha thanks Popnfresh! Yeah I really tried to replicate that "I've been waiting for you Obi-Wan" moment from ANH. Such a great figure. So happy to have a Vader.

And if anyone knows how to fix the pictures, I'd greatly appreciate it lolol.

I thought about it, but honestly didn't want him. I know I did when he was first announced, but seeing in hand pics was kind of eh for me. Going to stick with force users. Will help keep my collection somewhat slim.

I'm far from an expert, but the only glaring issues are the shoulder armor, specifically the shoulder bells which are all black instead of gun-metal/black, and the lightsaber hilt, which is from ESB if I'm not mistaken.
Otherwise, I found it superior to the v1.0.
