Personally I've always hated ball-jointed heads so I wouldn't miss those one bit but everything else is a big loss. Seems to me like a nostalgia trip back to 80s/90s 5POA isn't what today's kids are gonna want but what do I know.
Spoiler:
what a terrible ****ing toyline, feel bad for the kids growing up with this ****. we live in an age of high articulated figures, and hasbros throwing this garbage on shelves... thank god theres a 6" line, but even that is being put to shame by other companies, what a tragedy
I would be much more worried about Disney than Hasbro.
Nah, Hasbro has been slowly destroying the 3 3/4 line ever since The Clone Wars ended. They already screwed up the most anticipated toy line of this year, I can't imagine what they will have planned for next year. Plus, one of the designers is a complete *** and I would bet my collection knows next nothing about anything Star Wars.
You're right on the money. Hasbro could have been WAY ahead of the online ordering curve with Star Wars. I worked for Hasbro in the late 90's going to different stores and setting up displays. They were afraid to brace online because they were worried about their relationship with brick-&-mortar stores.
One of Hasbro's biggest issues with their Star Wars business model was that they did not care about how long a wave sat on a shelf. This caused a problem because Hasbro was also really strict about not shipping product to stores that didn't sell through what they had. Eventually I would have to go into those stores (k-mart, tru, etc) and find the old product and send it back to Hasbro. Only then would they get new stuff.
So many waves of this line went criminally underproduced because of Hasbro's total disregard for production ratios. Instead of shipping out the Dark Trooper wave everyone wanted they would send another damn case of Shadow of the Empire waves. Those purple cards (Xixor, Luke and Chewbacca in particular) still haunt me.
It was only a matter of time before these leaked. They always do. I just wonder how fast it will take Hasbro to issue a press release. Hard to imagine we're expected to be excided for Force Friday without knowing what is going to be available exactly.
I do find it odd we're not seeing any old Lukes, Hans, or Leias. Or even R2 and 3PO. Chewie is the only original character features in these 12 figures.
That is pretty sweet you got to work for Hasbro.
As you said, Hasbro's biggest issue is not caring how long a wave sat on the shelf, I think it still is. Local stores around me still have series 3 of the 6" black series, has been like that for at least five months, I have yet to see series 4 because nothing sells out, it just sits and rots. Heck, I question how much product will be readily available at launch for the TFA stuff. Last launch I was at was The Clone Wars TV/Movie stuff, it was pretty well stocked, hopefully the same can be said for TFA stuff.
Then, if this stuff flops, stores around me will never see the next wave.
Nope the answer is 'Hasbro is stupid'
