Buddylee's Customs - Darth Vader WIP w/custom Dome

Been trying to cobble together my own Vader figure for a few years now, but the dome was always my roadblock. If I couldn't have a dome, I couldn't have my Vader. Tried various experiments with different materials to see if i could custom make one for the Screamin'/Kotobukiya Vader mask I had.

The final result is a combination of Magic Sculpt for the dome, styrene and some Hasbro dome parts for the flare. Did a lot of shaving, sanding, bondo, sanding, repeat, to get the form I wanted. I plan on making a Vader reveal mask so I had to form fit everything around that darn Koto mask. There were definitely challenges and limitations to how accurate I could get the sculpt. There's no doubt that Vader's dome was designed by a madman. It is not a simple shape!

Please don't mind the the Vader body. It is a MOCK-UP. Everything on his body needs to be modded in one way or another and was just slapped together to give me some vision. Hopefully I will keep the ball rolling on Vader as I have a few other projects going on at the same time and update the thread.

-I plan on digitally sculpting an ESB Fett helmet and 3D printed to replace my Marmit figure helmet.

-Got a Zbrush H. Ford sculpt going on to give some Han Sideshow figures new heads. First up will be a new Deckard head to replace the one on my Android Hunter figure. That will get printed soon.

Very nice mate and have to say I`m ashamed to own up to not having a Vader in my collection yet (well apart from the Hasbro Electronic one).

And while you're at that whole digital printing thing, get someone to scan a Master Replicas ROTS Vader helmet so we can have a nice accurate 1/6th scale version. I'm so worried that Sideshow will have someone sculpt one and it won't be symmetrical like the film's helmet.

By the way Buddylee, great job on the dome! I know from attemting the same mod, it ain't easy. In fact I gave up.

Nope. The ROTS helmet is an actual symmetrical helmet, has flat lenses and the neck comes down further.

The helmets from the OT were sculpted by hand and are not perfectly symmetrical.

This is awesome! Probably the best Vader dome I've ever seen, very nice work!

And I look forward to seeing how the Boba Fett helmet and Han Solo sculpt turn out. Could we see some of Han in Zbrush?

(oh, and you might want to explain what Zbrush is to any who might not know)

I only had the trial version of Zbrush, and it expired before I could use it effectively. But I've seen some very good work done with it, so I'm curious to see how Han will turn out.

Great looking dome indeed! If I had a Vader I'd plead for a cast

Since I missed out on the ANH Vader I'm hoping SS will hurry up with an ESB or the more likely ROTJ Vader.

But again best dome I've seen. Can't wait to see the whole Vader done up!

Thanks for the kind words! Need to Spot Putty that dome and get it slick smooth and get it wrapped up. Next up is to work on the neck of the Vader mask and reshape it and make it less thick. Until then here is a quick preview of my H Ford sculpt. Just imagine him with some hair and eyebrows. Boba Fett sculpt coming soon.

That is an incredible likeness! Was it all done from scratch in Zbrush? If so I may have to consider buying Zbrush...

It looks just like him, with or without hair!

I think Han is going to look amazing! So I found this pic of Han,

and used the hair/eyebrows from it, slapped the z-brush Han sculpt in there, and with a little bit of colorization and some photoshopped eyes, this was the result:

dude u need to make an anakin!! bald or luke ,all we hav are the drag queen ss version of anakin and the "oh my god im a rabbit in head lights" luke skywalker GINORMUS headsculpts!, wud be soooo cool to have that!!

I would love a young bald burnt and crusty Anakin head, that would be an awesome figure to have I think, Anakin being consumed by the fire.
