I'm really sad Borders is closing. We have one close to our house and it was great to run in there and browse. My wife and I would always buy greeting cards there. Borders carried really good ones made by Papyrus I think, that we don't seem to find in any other local stores.

There's a Barnes and Noble in the mall down the road, but it's more of a hassle to get there, what with the crowds and parking, etc.

What I'll miss most is not buying, but browsing. I can preview what I would actually buy through Amazon. There is nothing better than holding a physical book in your hands and seeing the cover and feeling the weight and flipping the pages.

Oh, and magazines! I don't think there is a single newstand-style of store anywhere in my area. You can get the obvious ones like the girly fashion magazines and gossipy tabloids at the supermarket and quikiemarts. But what about any of the sci-fi mags or even the um, male-oriented ones? Or even stuff like Wired? I guess subscriptions is the only alternative now.

Amazon has pretty cheap magazine subscriptions, even the porno mags.
