I’ve been mulling over Black 13 figures for a couple months now. I’ve already missed out on some incredible older releases. They’re rare, imported, limited in number, high end collectibles so I understand the price tags.

I noticed that the brothers series are usually pared down on the accessories since it’s two figures instead of one. The Octopus brothers and with the girl in the tank, it’s a cool combination but I wish their costumes were a little more elaborate, even if I’m just floored by the design and color work on those animal heads.

Since I’ve never encountered a Black 13 figure, I’m curious what sort of bodies do their characters use? Are the joints elbows and knees double jointed? Are the joints stiff or more loose compared to other high end figures? I’ve noticed that stiffer fabrics (or vinyl) can make posing difficult around the shoulders, especially with looser shoulder joints.

In photos, Black 13 figures are usually just standing in a static pose, and it’s great to show off the detail on the accessories but I wonder how well they’d hold up in more dynamic poses.

However the story behind the Octopus brothers and their sister is silly, but experimental mutant cephalopod heads on dying former mercenaries does make me want the full set.

I have found B13 highly addictive to collect. I think I have 6 of them at this point. Many figures they produce are reinterpreted with new clothes and accessories in even more limited numbers later on. Also, in the case of the octopus brothers, the girl in the tank is a separate purchase and produced in less numbers than the figures. The bodies, in the case of the single figures they produce, are a work of art unto themselves as they usually have anatomical cutaways. The tailoring and the silkscreening on the clothes is outstanding, always.

It’s a question of WHEN do I open the floodgates. I’m just so consistently impressed by B13 figures, I really want to have one in hand.

Hobby Galaxy is actually selling the Octopus Brothers and their sister in the tank display all together, I don’t know how many they’ll have in stock but I’ll want to order soon before the December release to avoid the $1100 lump sum payment.

Do you have any of the Brothers series figures? Do you know if the Brothers figures are their own custom/original underlying body or do use a body from another company?

I don’t mind a little bit of compromise when posing a figure, but I’d be disappointed if my only real choice is to have them standing at attention like their advertising photos.

How do you display your B13 figures?

I have the first version of the Crab brothers, as well as the Beetle Brothers Samurai version. These are different bodies from the more elite single figures, in that they do not have any body cutaways or see though parts. The proportions of the brother bodies is really unique. I think B13 designed it and is the only one using it. The downside to these figures, IMO, is that there are always very few hand options, and they tend to reuse the same hand sculpts over and over. Finding compatible looking gloved hands in different positions has been challenging

Thank you for the reply! I put in my order for the Octopus Brothers, though they won’t ship probably until early next year, I’m pretty excited! With the octopus sister in the tank I can already see them in a grimy cyber/bio-punk lab setup display.

I don’t think I’ll worry too much about the hand variety as long as they can grip their weapons. I’m definitely eyeing some of the elite B13 figures. I’ll probably miss out on the upcoming releases but hopefully they’ll keep creating new figures a little further in the future.

I love the Black park 13 stuff but don't collect the brothers series. I so far have the Bear , Falkon and Deer 5 Anniversary Edition This one looks tempting though .

i find the earlier release more impressive, some of the newer ones are more of a budget release (still expensive). i am not really fond of those crab/octopus girl thing. The bear release is quite impressive.
