Any idea on how to paint a wood grain effect?

I'm currently making a rifle but it is far too tedious to make out of real wood.
Does anybody know how to paint a real wood grain effect on a gun stock.
I recently spotted Iminime sheriff rifle that is painted and looks stunning.

I use cheap bristle brushes hacked into to get the streaking with acrylic paints. Layering the colours as in the airbrush tutorial above.
