I'll be happy with the deluxe version. This is my first Jack Sparrow figure. The Artisan will obviously have better detail but the Canadian price on it is $694 then you add about $50 for shipping and then when it crosses the border you will be charged another $100+. So you are looking at $860 for a 1/6 scale figure. For me the extra detail isn't worth it.
I'm actually considering school for my kid in BC because its a great school and the conversion rate works in my favor. I see how it could suck when trying to buy stuff from other side though that isn't sold through domestic retailers.

Anyone compare the dread trinkets on the Artisan to what Johnny actually wore in the movie?

Some costume reference photos.

It's a shame that the sculpted doesn't include some of those trinkets. As for the Artisan prototype, I think some of the trinkets look a bit too big, as does the hair braids and dreadlocks. I'm curious to see how that wool hair looks on the final product.
Thanks for the link Clown Prince, between that and google I have been able to find at least the extra trinkets I have identified.
I think you are right in that the trinkets seem possibly a little bigger in scale here - closer to 1/5.
But for me these details are what elevate this figure - not necessary by any means and the deluxe and standard are great looking figures and quite arguably better value for money, but these details are really making me feel better about the decision to commit to the artisan - these sort of details are more befitting that title and price range than just more rooted hair [though like you Wor I am now struggling to unsee the sculpted dreads compared to the rooted ones] and make this a premium option worth getting.

HT have actually made 5 versions including this.

Having had all these versions along with the Medicom and Ultimate Unison figure (I don't care what anyone says, that talking feature was fun af!), I can honestly say how I've seen the overall quality progress as time has gone on with the different iterations. I definitely feel this Artisan one is the best yet without at doubt and have hard time believing anyone who says otherwise.

But then again, I'm also a huge Depp fan and Jack Sparrow fan, so what may constitute as minor/little changes to some, mean a lot more to me with each iteration. Something as simple as the animal fur pelts on his belt finally being accurate brings me so much joy that most ppl probably don't even care about :lol

I have them all. No idea where they are other than DX15 (on my shelf), but I do have them.
My OCD would not allow that to happen for me. I still know where my old toys are at my parent's house 😅

I think the only boxed figures I collect and will keep in their boxes are old, original transformers and I only have 2 of those currently.

Yea, admittedly, if I was in that position with all those factors you have mentioned, it probably wouldn't be worth it unless this was an absolute must for an all time favorite character.

I know myself enough to know that if I'd gotten the Artisan, I'd be arguing why it's worth it, but since I've only gotten the Deluxe, I'll argue that it's a better value. Gotta play both sides so you always come out on top. 🤣

Saw the DX06 and DX15 in person for the first time at Frank & Son's. The DX15 is a little more lifelike overall, but I was surprised to find both figures incredibly impressive.

The only way a company can make a Jack stand out at this point is to release a younger one from the Verbinski trilogy. Older, blonder, kitted-up Jack has been knocked out of the park three times already.

Barbossa would make for an incredible figure. Would also love to see someone tackle Bootstrap Bill. Will and Elizabeth are also givens.

I would easily get Will, Barbossa and a P1 Jack.

I’d want a new Will Turner as well. Either DMC or AWE 2.0. I’ve seen the AWE headsculpt repainted and it’s quite good but the stock figure itself goes for way too much to warrant buying and going through all that to upgrade it imo

Will and Elizabeth are the unbuttered bread of this franchise - they are the structure needed to pack the more enjoyable ingredients inside.

There are a LOT of Pirates characters whose designs are so cool I would get them before those two:
Tia Dalma, Bootstrap Bill, pretty much the entire crew of the Dutchman, the undead cursed pirates of the Black Pearl, Pintel and Ragetti, Cutler Beckett, Gibbs, Blackbeard, Salazar, the Pirate Lords.... all more interesting figures than Will and Elizabeth.

Interesting. I might get Blackbeard or Salazar over them but none of the others. Sure, they might be more visually interesting but don’t care enough for them to actually take valuable shelf space. Just background characters IMO that end up looking like the SW aliens. They’re cool and all but would they actually sell? Probably not and better off having a 3rd Party make them as I don’t think they warrant an official figure price tag

Yeah, surprised to see this sentiment about Will and Elizabeth. At the risk of doing what that one guy didn't want us to do and making a Star Wars comparison, Jack/Will/Elizabeth are the POTC Han/Luke/Leia. Sure, you won't catch me arguing that Barbossa, Bootstrap, Tia Dalma, etc. wouldn't make for more visually striking figures, but if that's all I cared about, I'd own Captain Phasma instead of Bespin Luke. For me, it's the balance between characters that are important to the story and look good on a shelf, and I don't think Will & Elizabeth are slouches where the latter is concerned -- not if treated with the sort of care that HT and InArt are capable of, anyway.

I'd love the Artisan and join the ranks of those ticked off at HT, but on the other hand, at least in my displays, from a few feet away you aren't going to, in fact, see all those details.

I like all the films - but for &^%$ sake what is the problem with getting out a version from the first film? They could throw in some coins and Jack's cut hand.

I wonder if there's different licensing for the first film since it wasn't a franchise first but instead just a one off. If I remember correctly, they only decided to make more after how popular the first one was. None of them thought they were making more which is one of the main reason for Jack's costume change from COTBP to DMC/AWE.

I'd want Will Turner to include the hat, cape, and baldrics he wears at the end of the film. SWToys did it with their unlicensed figure, so it would be a shame for a company with the license to skimp on those.

Would anyone buy Norrington?

Will and Elizabeth are obviously the main characters next to Jack but I think it's unrealistic to expect Hot Toys to ever make them again. Maybe if Inart had the license we'd see figures of them but I doubt the couple would sell as well as a Barbossa or Davy Jones.

My hope is that Hot Toys listens to the hundreds of people asking for a Davy Jones because he would be the most visually striking figure out of all them and quite frankly I'd be happy to call it a day on Pirates just having Jack and Davy.

Just imagine a Davy with SERS, cloth clothing with the sea life done in a similar fashion to the spider man and superhero suits along with some sculpted parts, his base could mirror Jack's facing the other way and have the Dutchman's helm with some Kraken tentacles coming out of the water. The accessories would be fairly simple, the dead man's chest with his heart and key, Calypso's music box, Norrington's saber and maybe a telescope.

Davy would also be the easiest one in terms of licensing since he doesn't have any likeness rights attached to him and can be licensed based on the franchise itself not any specific movie as has been the case with some of his most recent figures. Hopefully Hot Toys is listening.
