I'm surprised to read that the other versions have wool hair for the parts that aren't sculpted. The deluxe is a great value for what is being offered, but I would be lying if I said I wouldn't rather have the Artisan version. Especially with all the details you are all pointing out.

I've ordered the deluxe version for now. Hopefully my waitlist converts for the Artisan. If so, I may just keep both since I don't have a previous version.

I disagree completely. For what they are; popcorn switch off your brain blockbusters akin to a theme park ride; they’re great.

Sure they have their good ones and bad ones like most franchises but there is enough good in any of the films for them to be deemed enjoyable.

I don’t think, however, that anyone is comparing them to SW or LOTR, and rightly so! 😂
I disagree as well, the Gore Verbinski trilogy is one of my favorites ever and while the last 2 movies lack that classic feel they are still fun to watch.

When it comes to quality obviously everyone will agree LoTR is leagues above PoTC but I really doubt the average person in the street will know who Aragorn is but I would bet they know who Jack Sparrow is.

I'd even argue that would be the case with Luke Skywalker as well, so saying Jack Sparrow, arguably one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable characters in cinema is no Luke Skywalker, who got done incredibly dirty in the new sequels mind you, seems a bit biased.

I sort of like the first one and found the second ok...but this is in no way a great franchise.

It had 2 great movies...and that is it. I am glad this is being made, but Jack Sparrow is no Luke Skywalker nor is POTC LOTR in any way.
Pirates is a beloved franchise. This Artisan version is better than previous 2 iterations. And they've only made 3 Sparrows. It's not like this is our tenth version.

This Artisan version is absolutely beautiful. Whoever manages to order one is going to be delighted when they unbox this figure

HT have actually made 5 versions including this.

PotC is currently doing WAY better than Star Wars and they aren't making Pirates movies anymore! (Comparing almost anything to LotR is going to be unfair, except Godfather of course.) The SW legacy gets driven further into the pavement with each new Disney released "content." Sparrow is an unforgettable movie character that I feel will remain indelible. Skywalker has already been ruined. And to be fair, the original Pirates trilogy is a great piece of movie making, and last time I watched, World's End did not have even one Ewok or lumbering Harrison Ford phoning it in, so it has a leg up there.

I'd go further and say the first movie is actually very, very good. The ones after vary greatly but the first one is genuinely a good film, not just "turn your brain off" entertainment. I got a soft spot for the Verbinski trilogy so I like the 2nd and 3rd film too.

Not to mention, it was probably the last time Disney decided to take any real risk with its IPs. Also, Curse of the Black Pearl had the perfect portrayal of Jack for me. He became a parody of himself in the later films (more and more apparent in the the more recent ones).

I was going to try and get a DX06 hat in preparation for this release but the more I see poses without it, the more I don’t think I’ll ‘need’ one:

Yes I know this looks like it was filmed on a potato but it’s the best full length basic standing shot I’ve seen so far (outside of the HT official solicitation photos which I always think are horrible).

I'm very surprised to hear Justin speak candidly, tbh. Pointing out that the bandana thing is clearly a tactic to push people towards the Artisan, calling out the lack of rooted facial hair, arguing that the Deluxe is a better value, admitting that this isn't a must-buy if one is happy with their DX06 or DX15... I think he's absolutely right on all points; I just never thought he'd be the one to say it. I appreciate that he's honest about these things while still acknowledging that this is a damn fine release.

After all that talk, he will still get the Artisan and say it looks much better than the others.

Cool that there are hidden little details we are still finding on the artisan,
Would be good to know what the back of the sculpted head's hair is like to see if it has those trinkets on the braids.
Am I crazy/blind or does the sculpted dreads miss the braid that ends in a cannon-fuse lighter?
In fact the more I look at pictures of the Artisan the more braids and trinkets in the hair appear to be missing from the sculpted
I've circled in red the trinkets on the artisan I can't find on the sculpted

It's a shame that the sculpted doesn't include some of those trinkets. As for the Artisan prototype, I think some of the trinkets look a bit too big, as does the hair braids and dreadlocks. I'm curious to see how that wool hair looks on the final product.

Not to mention one of the greatest movie themes ever.. rivals John Williams stuff

This has been my concern since the reveal, tbh. I love the inclusion of all the little details, but getting it scaled properly is a challenge. The Artisan hair looks a little poofy to my eye. But I remember the prototype Wonder Woman's hair looking a little too blown out, and I don't feel the final product has that issue, so it could be something that's fixed in the final implementation.

I think anyone with the artisan using the hat would be covering too much of what you paid extra for. As previously mentioned in thread many times I think get one of the other versions (or use your older release) to pose with hat and find a cool pose without it to show off the artisan dreads and cloth scarf. I did already buy a Dx06 rum bottle though that I found cheap on eBay

Oooh, that's a good call. I better do the same before more people get the idea and snatch them up!

Yup, like most of us here and in the hobby, we will be critical but also OCD and FOMO will most times mean we are quick to shell out for the most expensive version cause to have the best/most limited. And a guy like Justin for whom cost appears to be of near zero consequence, yes I would be shocked if he doesn't end up with Artisan from whatever HK retailer he is plugging at the time. I thank him for the catastrophe I have experienced with TW on the few orders I've place with them from back when they were Justin's go-to "buy it here"

I'll be happy with the deluxe version. This is my first Jack Sparrow figure. The Artisan will obviously have better detail but the Canadian price on it is $694 then you add about $50 for shipping and then when it crosses the border you will be charged another $100+. So you are looking at $860 for a 1/6 scale figure. For me the extra detail isn't worth it.
