Not every artisan has the same amount of units
Artisan Joker-4,000
Artisan Anakin-3,000
Artisan Scarlet Witch-2,500
Artisan Jack-4,000

Something overlooked on the Artisan is all the real weaved strings on the dreads -- something that is just painted on the sculpted deluxe version.

So there is another mixed media element to consider for the higher priced Artisan -- not just furred dreads but also actual material weaved on many of the strands... as well as several actual braided hair strands.

Agreed... I think there is no question the Artisan will look better than the DX/CE on another level even at a standing back distance... Especially without the hat given the cloth bandana vs. plasticky one on the other versions. Much criticism from peeps on the price diffs but yes it is more premium and labor intensive to make and many if not most of us hit the queue the instant it went live intent on getting it because we know its value. The DX/CE are very good too and much better than previous DX15/06 releases from years past because they are new with the benefit of many years HT crafting improvement.

In the end all are fine but hard to argue artisan is not best and $500 is what thousands instantly committed to paying so it apparently is the right price. Hot Toys are not villains for charging what the market bears no more than modern day pirates who gobble these up fully intent on jacking them another 20-50% in secondary market plunder. If I were Hot Toys, I'd probably be doing the same.... Man! the thought of racking up a couple mill in preorders in minutes just by announcing a popular re-release...too bad I didn't go into the sixth scale business back when. Anyway, had I not been lucky enough to get one I would be super bummed just like I was when I fell short on Artisan Skywalker but I still like my old dark side Ani which is fine for me... just not as good as the Artisan Ani will be and if I really want it, I'll find it and pay for it.

Artesian for hatless/coatless look.
DX15 for Hat and Coat.

Make use of new and old at the same time.

Also, Pirates films degraded when they decided Jack was no longer a strong supporting character and instead front and center all day long. Jack is great when he steals a scene, or is witty, or is better than someone. When he's doing it all the time everywhere at every moment, the novelty and awe of the character tanks; he actually becomes what the characters in-universe think of him, as opposed to how we're supposed to be enthralled by him and his antics.

Sadly missed the launch of the artisan by maybe 40 minutes. They should have let known poeple when their launching it instead of dropping it random... Anyway hope i get my waitlist spot within a month becouse i have $25 credit expire after. If not, i will pay the non refundable depost for the deluxe with that. The deluxe looks pretty close, but as a big fan of jack sparrow i kinda want to get the best possible version. So pretty bummmed i missed it. Especialy becouse i was viewing this forum and my email just before it launched

While you're correct to point out the intricacy of adding the actual strings to the Artisan dreads as well as the actual braiding of some of the hair, saying the deluxe's equivalents are "just painted on" really does not do justice to the skill, time and labor involved in that process. On the deluxe it's not just the weaved strings but the faux dreads and braids themselves that need painting, whereas the wool Artisan versions do not. While the Artisan will no doubt look more life-like and should be at a higher price point for that reason, I don't think the substantial price differential can be attributed to the labor involved (especially considering that the deluxe will also have some significant wool hair implantation). In the end I believe HT is charging $160-$200 more simply because they can. I haven't gone back and checked - how does that compare to what InArt charges to upgrade to implanted hair? Weren't they more like $125-$150?

This is exactly the proper use and view of the character.(y)

I had hopes with the stinger from the last film that Bloom and Knightly would return for at least one final go at their characters (the true heart of the original trilogy) with Davy Jones as the villain once more. Twas not to be. Very grateful this dropped out of nowhere and decided on the "regular" version at $300.

Just regular for three bills. Oh the shame.:LOL:

Well, there's the 'bay. Not being sarcastic - if you can find a reputable seller and are willing to pay the markup.

On the other hand sure customizers will be going to town, and possibly churn out something better e.g. re-hair - if you are willing to pay.$$$

Wondering if under the cloth bandana is the sculpted one 🤣
That's actually possible, it would help the cloth keep the shape. If not, can hear folks already complaining about "poofy hair" and the bandana falling off. Tho maybe it will be stitched in place.

Don't remember seeing Jack without a hat or bandana. Maybe he looked to - dunno, wild, without.

Right. I didn't mean to take away from that. Here's a thought though, the title "Artisan" might suggest HT are involving the craftmanship of someone outside their inhouse stable of talent for the implantation and extra craftmanship. This could certainly be basis for that extra cost. I have bought hundreds of HT and TP figs over the years but only two customs from similar "artisans" and those two cost dearly in exchange for what can be truly remarkable difference like this timeless Boseman expression. Whether it be paint or mixed media, doing it using outside talent means those people need to be paid. While economies of scale keep per unit prices on HT figures much lower than cost I experience on something like this, it probably involves the same type of people and could easily be basis for the diff.

Will proberly setlle on the Deluxe becouse i have a $25 discount code that will expire soon. Unless my waitlist will convert, but i doubt. Anyway the deluxe looks fantastic and pretty close to the artisan version. I wonder if i really will notice the difference between rooted or sculpted dreads, and a cloath bandana or sculpted. Minor differences comes to mind. Or i am just trying to talk it good for missing out:huh

Outsourcing of the implantation process would certainly help explain the increased cost but IDK, I don’t think HT would introduce an ongoing, signature line like this without first hiring the in-house talent to both make it happen and sustain it. If this was a one off then yes, but clearly they’ve seen the threat that InArt presents to their quality leadership claims and are attempting to respond accordingly. I would think that paying for top-notch talent would be part of that response.

You're right that it isn't necessarily a one off, but in 50+ releases over past eight months since the artisan line was announced, only four figures are Artisan so that could indicate an outside craftsman relationship at least at this point while they establish, test the market and prove the line.

Personally, I think its fine to offer the artisan at the premium price, but then just make it a wider release artisan that any interested customer could buy without bothering to make unnecessary "less-than" versions. For instance, while everything else looks fine on the DX/CE version of this (because they are essentially the same figure), I can't get over that shiny plastic bandana... come on put the nice fabric one on all version or otherwise just offer a single version that everyone can have. That sculpted bandana can't have saved production cost much. And why the silly diamond base? if you want to offer less expensive version, just offer the same figure with the diorama for more money or without the diorama for less money. And BTW another thing that baffles me a little, going to all the trouble of implanted dreads, then why stop at the hair on top of the head? Meaning those two chin braids should be implanted vs. sculpted as well.

Anyway, whatever, I am happy this is coming. I want to bid a happy Easter to those who observe it and a warm Cheers to everyone, hope all here enjoy today with your friends and families. JC

Funny I posted this and then just watched the link to Justin's preview and he said the same thing.

I'm very surprised to hear Justin speak candidly, tbh. Pointing out that the bandana thing is clearly a tactic to push people towards the Artisan, calling out the lack of rooted facial hair, arguing that the Deluxe is a better value, admitting that this isn't a must-buy if one is happy with their DX06 or DX15... I think he's absolutely right on all points; I just never thought he'd be the one to say it. I appreciate that he's honest about these things while still acknowledging that this is a damn fine release.

I agree especially for the price point those chin parts should be rooted but I wonder how difficult that would be?

The rum bottle being missed I believe Is probably down to Disney as I'd assume Depp doesn't get a say in this?
