Great comparison, Matrix. HT have done so well. Glad I preordered this.
It's a superb figure and sculpt for sure but I still think the head is a touch undersized and slightly too rounded. I don't have mine yet but I have used the AOTC head (which I assume is 100% the same sculpt as ROTJ version) on a custom protocol droid so have that in-hand.
Also not sure if he's a tad short because bad headsculpt aside, the SSC 3PO I thought was close to the right height for 3PO and the HT seems somewhat noticeably shorter.
Will be interesting to have mine all lined up too, though I don't have the Medicom.

And I also thought the HT is too short, but I looked at my SS 3PO and realized he's too tall. I think HT might have the height correct, at least relative to their own ANH Luke and gang.

Sideshow was always too tall. Tamashii got the height and proportions right. Looks like HT has done the same. Can’t wait to compare the tamashii with the HT when I get mine.

Yeah, the eyes look way too close together for my liking, but it’s the super skinny neck that I can’t un-see. That just really throws the whole accuracy off. Not sure what HT train of thought was there? Someone on here said that it’s maybe to give it more articulation, but you want the figures movements and articulation to mimic the character, and in threepio’s case, his movement is pretty constricted in every aspect. It’s a great looking figure, don’t get me wrong, but there’s a lot that they can hopefully tweak for the inevitable ANH or ESB release, which are the ones I’m holding out for.Damn. Yeah I think you nailed a key problem with the eyes being a bit too close together: it creates a sort of "Harry Potter glasses" look.
It still looks pretty great but hopefully there is a sculpt tweak for the next HT 3PO version. The head's slightly undersized aspect and too-rounded/wide sculpt were noticeable as soon as my AOTC 3PO head arrived, even if they really aren't huge problems at all. I also think a shiny gold finish hides these issues pretty well.
I couldn't wait for a likely next HT 3PO (an ANH or ESB backpack 3PO surely have to be certainties but you never know) as I really wanted the ROTJ-specific aspects. Still can't believe they made a ROTJ-specific 3PO.

The head maybe a tad underscaled alright, but not glaringly so.
The eyes are too large, which in turn is making them look too close together.
I found a new pose for the grip hand...

To me the HT sculpt here looks better than the original in face & color.
If you're gonna change anything, change the original!
