My 3PO arrived and he's a beauty... Very impressive. There's lots of nitpicks, but the good outweighs the bad.
For me this is the most accurate sculpt of C3PO to date. While the Tamashii wins on an engineering front, i've always felt it was a little too clunky and toyish looking.

This HT version looks more like a guy in a suit, with my only real nitpick being the neck is a little too thin. Maybe this was done to help with the articulation.

There's also a lot more DIECAST than i was expecting, with the pelvis, legs, upper arms and back plate being all DIECAST. Whereas the head, front torso plate, shoulder pieces, pistons, lower arms, hands and feet are all plastic.

I'm still not the biggest fan of the speckled on weathering, but from a normal viewing distance it's forgivable, and doesn't take away from how great the figure looks on display.

My biggest gripes are the tiny batteries used for the light-up eyes and the horrid crotch grabber. A light-up base would've been nice too.

:clap Nice review, matrix! He does look great, despite having the Tama I was very curious to see this one in hand to see how it stacks up. Hopefully AE gets their allotment soon.

Hoping that once I have this in hand the speckling wont bother me as much but if its as noticeable as it is in these recent arrivals I hope someone is brave enough to come up with a way of knocking it back a little. If Im really bothered by it maybe I'll be the brave one here as I have not ready anywhere yet from someone who has attempted it.

Looks great with R2

Thanks @matrix69 ... I actually pre-ordered this to go with my R2; I have the AOTC version which I think will match this Threepio's weathering, although I do like the cleaner OT version as well, I remember the droids as generally being quite grimy. The weathering on yours, the way you describe it -- is more or less what I expected.

I'm not an active collector anymore but this duo is too classic not to have on my bookshelf. Looking forward to C-3PO's arrival. If they ever do an OT two-pack I may upgrade but in the meantime, life is short -- so these are the droids I'm looking for.

(You know I had to say that.)

My problem with the weathering is that it’s really heavy handed and reddish. Which tints the whole thing a bit orange instead of gold. I hope it can be removed or toned down. I’ll probably practice on the spare face plate and see what can remove the red spatters without affecting the gold paint. I’ll start with cape cod cloth, then try acrylic thinner, then enamel thinner and see what works. I don’t want to remove it all, it’d be too hard to get in all those tiny spaces. I just want to remove the heavy use of it.

Dumb question but do you think this will ever go in stock at SS before it gets waitlisted?

Not a dumb question at all, I was wondering the same thing. I suppose it's possible. I can't believe it's not waitlisted yet, however the higher price tag might be a reason people are hesitant. I want to pre-order it but I have so many pre-orders and paypal credit to pay down.

Exactly. I just paid off a few orders that hit. I would love to see it go in stock.
