From the company that made $7 billion from GTA Online comes…a ps4 remaster for $50.

I think Mexico was planned for Online at some point but never for the SP mode

Fun trivia... the Mexico region showed up one day 6 months before launch to a lot of the team's confusion. They were told to just up-rez it but that proved to not be as easy since everyone was pushing on the main game and cutting a big chunk out of Guarma. For example if you notice the desert terrain is very choppy to ride on because they didn't have time to massage it after it was re-generated thru their World Machine landscaping program.

It's disappointing this is only a remake however I'd rather not rush a remaster and leave that door open for some remaster in the future. For example if they're smart with Red Dead 3 and creating a large connected gameworld they'll use that time to properly fix and use the Mexico area. Then they only have to redo cutscenes and some scripting, but not the actual art and then create a remastered game more easily.

I think Mexico was planned for Online at some point but never for the SP mode and the "Jack sound clips" were taken widely out of context as those are still in the game and belong to an NPC that plays poker it's not even the same actor who voiced Jack.
A RDR1 remake was never in the cards for me just going by the way RDR2 was treaded post launch I mean people begged Rockstar for 3 years to get bug fixes and a good looking John model but they never bothered and when they confirmed they would be putting all resources on GTA VI I knew that was it for a RDR2 next gen patch too.

The problem is Rockstar mega fans have a habit of blowing things out of proportion and setting themselves for disappointment, the same thing happened with the GTA trilogy remasters with everyone thinking it would be remakes and whatnot and now it's even worse since everyone grabbed onto the remake narrative and ran with it.
If this was announced out of the blue I'm sure the response wouldn't be as bad as it is now even if it's still disappointing that a PC port is still up in the air and the price is crazy for what they're offering.
Mass Effect remastere trilogy with all DLC, texture and gameplay improvements was only $10 more and I'm sure that TLOU $70 remake probably doesn't look so bad to now to all the people that trashed it.

As far as the future of the franchise I'm not really worried. I never imagined RDR1 would get a sequel/prequel and it turned into one of the best games ever made widely beloved by the majority of people that played it and delivered on everything I wanted even giving me the happy ending I wanted for the Marston family. I'm sure RDR3 will get made at some point but if it doesn't or if I die before that time I will be happy to have played both RDR games.
Honestly same. What disappoints me the most is the lack in effort in this port. The fact that they did the bare minimum is the thing that gets me angry, and the audacity to charge 50$ for a straight port is disgusting. I’m definitely not buying it and supporting it since I have RDR1 on Xbox Series X and it’s 4k upscaled and works amazing, and I bought it for 25$. In my opinion there’s no need to support this port and I think many fans should not buy it to show rockstar we want effort and not half assed ports. I know they just bought the guys who made the Roleplay servers, but if Rockstar doesn’t want to put in the effort, give the modders that made the Mexico Mod and the John Marston Restoration project the green light to work on a RDR1 Remake in RDR2’s engine, or just combine both games into one big game. That would have been the smart thing to do.

This statement doesn't aged very well, Take two have completely destroyed R* with :

-GTA+
-No update or new content on read dead online.
-GTA V on three generation of games console.
-Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition .
And now this. Not surprising by Dan Houser's departure.

I get the disappointment but the total shift from RDR fans when it comes to this port is baffling. Before the port was announced all of them were saying a remake was definitely coming because a port would be impossible to accomplish due to the "spaghetti code" and it would be a "miracle" if they managed to fix it. Now that they've managed to fix it with the help of another studio it's suddenly "lazy"... I just don't get it.

Sure you have it on your Xbox and as such you don't need buy it since the option isn't even available to you but for people like me who can only play this natively on the outdated PS3 hardware running bellow 720p and barely 30fps I'll gladly take this port and pick up a physical copy later this year as it's my favorite game alongside RDR2 and I'm happy I can finally enjoy it the same way Xbox users have for a while thanks to the Xbox backwards compatibility.
I don't care if the hypocritical Rockstar fans don't want me to support this release when they have supported GTA V Enhanced Edition, GTA Definitive Edition, GTA+ and GTA online and keep buying shark cards, none of which I bought and I've only played GTA online once on the PS3. Life's way too short for me to give a damn what those people want me to do.

Also a common thing I'm seeing is everyone is completely forgetting the Switch version, I think RDR coming to the Switch is fantastic, the last Rockstar game released on a Nintendo system was Bully waaay back in 2005-06 I think and now almost two decades later Nintendo fans have arguably one of the best Rockstar titles to enjoy on on their main system. I'm happy for them and I hope they enjoy it.

Modders have done fantastic stuff to enhance the game on PC but it's absurd to expect they can remake an entire game by themselves. You have to keep in mind modders aren't developers they take what's in the base game and change it to enhance the experience to way they like. A remake of RDR1 would require massive amounts of work and resources. They would have to remodel, reanimate and recode the entire game and that's not even taking into account if they would bring in the RDR2 voice actors and refilm some cutscenes with them, how they would handle all the new mechanics that were introduced in RDR2 or even if they would include the RDR2 map or not.
And combining the two games would be impossible, RDR2 alone is 150GB and RDR1 would also be a massive game as well if it were remade in the new RAGE engine, I think RDR fans have extremely unrealistic expectations of what a remake would entail or how it would operate, going as far as saying it could be a simple DLC... Sometimes I think the majority of people saying this never played the first game to begin with.

Rockstar wouldn't put in the effort to remake it anyway because they are knee deep in GTA 6's development right now which is set to be their biggest game to date and will likely feature a huge online mode for people that are into that. Why would they delay development on it any further by allocating resources to remaking a 13 year old game when the majority of RDR fans will tell you RDR2 is better in every way and Arthur is better than John? And RDR2 itself already allows you to play as John in the two Epilogue chapters dedicated to him and has New Austin to explore but I doubt many care since the completion rates for the Epilogue are incredibly low and sure Mexico is gone but it's an expansion they could easily add to the Online mode since they had plans for that anyway.

I don't agree with the $50 either but I will still pick the game up as I'm sure will many others who never played it or only own a current gen PS system as well as the Switch users. I think anyone who doesn't want to spend $50 on it can wait for a sale or just not buy it like you said but if they are free to support GTA V over 3 console generations and keep supporting Online I reckon I'm in my rights to support this port of my favorite games ever for finally giving me the chance to enjoy it on modern hardware.

They Ported L.A Noire to the Switch as well. That where I played it for the first time. I think a big part of the frustration is that Rockstar did nothing to tamp down expectations. They just let people think it would be a remake or remaster and said nothing.

You're right I forgot about that one!
How is Rockstar to blame for people having unrealistic expectations for something they never even announced or hinted at?
I even told people to stop dreaming about a remake and got the "spaghetti code" argument thrown at me as solid proof a remake was 100% confirmed.
People only have themselves to blame for expecting and hyping a huge remake when Rockstar is completely focused on GTA 6.

They're not, but the fact that people have been wanting a remaster/remake for so long and when we finally hear that something is coming in 2023, people would be expecting at least somewhat of a remaster. A PS4 port would've been more widely accepted if it was released during the PS4 generation. So it would've been nice if they had tempered expectations of those people, so they wouldn't feel blindsided.

I completely understand your opinion, but I wasn’t one of those fans that bought the trilogy, gta plus, shark cards, or expanded and enhanced because I expected quality. I was the player that played both GTA Online during its launch on PS4 and Red Dead Online since its beta. I have so many hours logged onto GTA Online and Red Dead Online, but stopped playing GTA around 2018 and moved all my focus into Red Dead. I played RD Online everyday with my friends during quarantine and expected Rockstar to make that game into a Red Dead equivalent of GTA online. I saved up about 300k and grinded 700 + Gold Bars because I was expecting new things that would change the game, like heists, maybe a Mexico expansion, and new roles. I was excited, and then let down by blood money and completely lost hope in Rockstar when they killed Red Dead Online and kept on making more money for its cash cow GTA Online. I put a lot of hours into making concepts for what they could add to Red Dead Online and even came up with an Undead Nightmare 2 idea. I worked on the Undead Nightmare 2 idea for 6 months on and off straight, making wanted posters for the cryptids I wanted to add into my idea, and just trying to show my passion as a fan. I’m extremely passionate about Red Dead as a franchise, and seeing the developer treat it as a red heading step child is so saddening and disappointing. I didn’t have my expectations towards the moon, I just expected something with quality and love, not just a half assed attempt to port a 13 year old game to a console that’s already retired. It’s ridiculous that they’re trying to charge 50$ for it, if it was a Remake in RDR2’s engine then the price would have been justified, but for a port? Nah, I’m good. And I get it, you’ll be able to play it on PS4 finally, but emulating on PC is a viable option too. No sweat toward what I’m saying and I’m happy you’ll be able to play it, just making a suggestion.

Now back to topic, what they did with the trilogy, gta plus, GTA online with the shark cards, and now this Red Dead port has made me very cautious about GTA 6, because if Rockstar as a company can’t care about their other products and put in actual effort, why would they care about GTA 6? I’m fully expecting it to have a buggy launch, a short story that’s mid, and a lot of heavy criticism for the online portion because they’ll try to pull the same stuff they did with GTA Online on its successor, with a subscription service from the go and even more shark cards. I’m done expecting things from this modern Rockstar. It seems like they have gotten lazy and have failed to make things with passion since the Dan Houser left. It’s been disappointment after disappointment ever since then and to be completely honest, they lost me as a customer. The Rockstar of today pales in comparison with the Rockstar of old, because the Rockstar of old cared about making high quality games no matter what, and would innovate with each coming game. Can GTA 6 be good? I’m sure it can, but it will be spoiled by the Online portion and pushed to the side in order for its online portion to thrive. In my opinion, single player is what matters when it comes to Rockstar, and they should have made single player DLCS for both GTA 5 and Red Dead 2, along with the online portion. At least that’s what the Rockstar of old would have done. I don’t like this new Rockstar at all, and nothing has been the same since Dan Houser left. They’re a shadow of their former selves.

Also if anybody is interested, this is the Undead Nightmare 2 Concepts I came up with. I based it off of the original wanted posters from Undead Nightmare. This is what we could have got if we got Undead Nightmare 2.

You may not be but the majority of Rockstar fans did, the numbers of those releases speak for themselves.

Unfortunately I can't really resonate with your passion towards Online because I never cared about Online or online games in general but I can tell you that Rockstar has been pretty clear on why RDR Online support has stopped for the time being, it's because they are all-hands-on-deck for GTA 6. And RDR Online was never going to be as successful as GTA Online because it's extremely held back by the time period it's set in and as such the younger people who make up the majority of the player base in these Online games lose interest.
I wouldn't say Rockstar is treating RDR as a "red heading stepchild" when they spent 8 years developing a sequel/prequel to a game that wasn't very popular to begin with, especially compared to their other franchises like Manhunt or Bully which had it's sequel cancelled.
I agree the price tag is ridiculous but I'm not going to lose any sleep over paying $50 to be able to play my favorite game on the PS5 and go trophy hunting without the hassles of emulating it on PC which pushes my CPU to the limit and if they made a remake it they would charge full price which would still get complaints anyway just like TLOU remake did.

That's where you lose me, Rockstar is out to make profit just like any other company and people buy shark cards because they want to, as far as the trilogy and this port they're not even developed internally as both are outsourced with the trilogy unfortunately being handed over to Wardrum/Groove Street studios which never really did any good ports to begin with. They were outsourced because again everyone at Rockstar is currently working on GTA 6 which they deeply care about. I don't know if you've played actual Rockstar releases in the past or if you're mainly a RDR fan but Rockstar's releases have always been mold breaking, extremely curated and polished games that push the entire medium forward in regards to the open world genre. Rockstar still cares about making those old school experiences as is evident in RDR2 but unfortunately Online will always bring more profit so I'm never expecting single player DLC from their future releases. As far as Dan Houser, Lazlow and others that left I wouldn't worry too much since GTA 6 has been in development for a while and they most likely have already worked on it and done their part.

Anyway we can complain about modern Rockstar all we want but there's still passionate people working there since "old" Rockstar and GTA 6 is going to be a massive hit that will likely break many records and set the standard for open world games moving forward just like every previous Rockstar release and you only need to look at your recent disappointments to understand that, they would rather stop support for their online modes which bring in tons of cash to finish what seems to be their most ambitious game ever.

To close it off I do not give a damn about online mode or what happens after the game is released as long as they deliver a fantastic single player experience like they always have.

EDIT: Also this getting off topic so I won't continue this discussion, I recommend GTA Forums if you would like to continue talking about these games and Rockstar in general.

I got you and I understand that. Though, if Rockstar did take the Naughty Dog route and completely remade RDR1 in RDR2’s engine, fans would be a lot more satisfied than what they did, especially since Take Two green lighted Remakes for Mafia 1 and 2, which Rockstar should have done for the trilogy and RDR1. I don’t have high hopes for GTA 6, but I am interested to see what they do.

I scoff at it (the rdr port) now, but I imagine that eventually it will be purchased by me. I’ll hold out for a sale at- what I would consider- a more appropriate price though. Willing to wait however many more years for that.

Unless I get my hands on my PS3 and my old rdr disc (they might be in storage).

given RRX and I assume the rest of Lims enthusiasm for RDR1 id say he'll come in his classic denim vest.
