I got my first ever Star Wars Hot Toys figure with this Darth Vader...and it will not be my last! Love this figure and that awesome base.

Did a little review on it below, enjoy!

Great review! And nice idea to use the motion blade to have him slicing those pipes on the base. Think I'll definitely have to try that pose.

Thank you! Yeah, you definitely can't go wrong using the motion blade with the base. The arc of the damage is a perfect fit.

The magic of seeing these onscreen things accurately reproduced and in your hands is what I mean - not so much displaying it. Obviously its inclusion was intended as a "oo, cool" thing before you put it on regular display. It would have been cool to see it done properly (both in paint and more exposed) - or just drop it altogether.

It might have been a cool DX accessory - an extra exposed head along with an accessory the scale of the Bespin weather vane or the ESB Vader stand: just the back of Vader's chamber chair, a caped body blank (ie just shoulders area) and the robot arm suspending the dome just above. The Meditation chamber is too big to have, but I'd display something along those lines alongside an ESB Vader.

But then I like little "vignette" displays like that - I'm building the truck gunner from the Raiders truck chase to display alongside my Indy on Arab horse.

I picked up this helmet (and most other key parts) from TA, so it'll be indahouse shortly anyway. I'm putting it all on a different body and suit.

yeah I got the helmet as well to see how it matches up to my KAIYODO Hurricane mask. so what type of body do you plan on using for your version of him.

So, I have this on order at BBTS. I don't have a Vader yet. Worth getting this or should I wait for an ROTJ? How big of an issue is the helmet/mask being separate?

the helmet and mask being separate is not an issue in itself

But the badly sculpted facemask it.

I cancelled mine. wait for rotJ

In the meantime I got myself a ANH V2 head to see if it looks better than the RO head in-hand with the lighting on my shelf or possible modding

I'm making so many custom Vaders I lost track.:lol I think I have four all up - the only one that's complete is my cheapo $75 Vader (seen below).:slap

Excited to see all these new HT ESB parts in-hand.

I think the bodies are just one of the "tall" versions of a branded body that was on eBay. I'll have to check and see if I can see the brand on it. I like to do Franken bodies for most of my customs. I end up dremelling the hell out of most of the bodies anyway.

All the HT masks are bigger than the Kaiyodo. Hurricane swears the Kaiyodo is perfectly scaled to the costume mask that he measured.

I really like what Hurricane made but I think his work looks best for ANH as they are pretty rough looking close-up, not clean/sharp and shiny enough for ESB or ROTJ (though my cheapo Vader is ESB.) And none of the domes ever match his facemask. I have another clean/new Kaiyodo, maybe I'll try to paint it myself and convert this rougher guy back to ANH. It's okay for a background Vader, but not a "centerpiece" display.

I wouldn't take advice from the guy who hasn't actually seen this ESB figure in person... the reactions and reviews from people who have actually held it in their hands has been almost entirely positive. I can't give my personal opinion yet as I ordered from BBTS and they've not shipped any out yet.

I can say I was rather concerned by initial pictures and was even contemplating cancelling, but as more info became available I've decided it looks like it will be a great figure. Worst case if I get it in hand and don't like it, I'm sure I can sell it without losing much at all.

My advice is enjoy a really impressive and well-done figure now. IF an ROTJ release is that much of an improvement (and there is no guarantee that it will be) -- just sell this one and upgrade.

The helmet and mask join is not an issue. When you want to pose it and articulate it, just pop the helmet off, do what you want to do, and replace the helmet.

I had some misgivings initially, made peace with what are minor flaws, and ordered him. It's one of my favourite figures now because it has such great presence.

If you're not in a hurry and don't like to deal with the upgrade cycle, you could wait and see, but I've noticed that a lot of HT figures aftermarket prices have hiked upwards again lately. So if you don't like the ROTJ as much when released, this one may wind up costing you more.

With all that said, I don't think ROTJ will really be *worse* than this in any way. Just maybe not better.

yeah that helmet that you have shown here with vader does look huge on him. the helmet he made for me looks great. I don't like any of the HT mask I don't know I just cant seem to see a great vader maybe it could be the paint apps or it`s the over sized design I don't know. I know one thing the eyes always seem to look like bug eyes when looking directly in the light. now there 1/4 scale ROTJ Vader that mask looks fantastic wish they could reproduced that in 1/6 then it would look perfect. I like the articulation on the RO body but not sure which body to use as I have the body but will see.

Timewalker just shipped mine out, supposed to have it Friday (accompanying him in the shipment is the deluxe Fett:)

Nice review with great high quality video..... Almost makes we want to buy this instead of waiting for the ROTJ version...... Must... resist.

Thank you! You won't be disappointed if you give in.

I am looking forward to seeing what Hot Toys does with the inevitable ROTJ 1/6 release. That 1/4 ROTJ Vader coming out next year looks pretty tempting though....
