Waiting for WW84 sculpt is funny to me- it will have "issues" then you will be waiting again...

I'm very happy with what this looks like

Hot Toys refuses to use digital scanning of actual actor's faces, so yes it is a preference issue.

Not knocking their talent and techniques but they should consider digital scanning just incase it doesn't turn out right like in this instance with JL hs. Use it to get the base scuplt right. To me the prototype was better but not the best still.

For WW84 figure HT should start from scratch and try to get Gal's likeness as close as possibe. Maybe providing 2 HS's of different types of expressions and different outfits e.g. 80s clothes and sculpted hair maybe. IDK

The hand sculpting makes it an art form. digital scanning is just that... a total exact reproduction of a face which defeats what a lot of collectors enjoy from this hobby. If they just did digital scans it would be pretty lame and take all the art out of this.

I don't think scanning the actor is really necessary. A lot of companies and customizers are getting great results these days just from 3D sculpting. In fact the likenesses often seem to end up a lot more exact and specific, and avoid that slightly generic quality the HT sculpts sometimes have.

I totally get what you mean by the art side of it. Your photo edits are the perfect example for that. But for every person that appreciates the "art form" of this, I would say there is at least one person who is after the perfect likeness of the character.

If you consider ANY release, there is always discussion about the headsculpt likeness. It shows people want a photorealistic headsculpt.

I would bet good money if a company came along which had the license for Marvel, Star Wars and who had good painters, could do the costumes and packaging well etc. and would use the 3D scanned headsculpt they would take Hot Toys from the top position.

Sculpt artists will always be needed for older films etc where 3D scan tech isn't available. Or maybe even use the scan as a base sculpt (as TheNick suggested) and have artists finish it off to get the best skin characteristics and fine details which are perhaps not so clear in a scan.

Personally I think that should be a last resort, and only be used if they can't sculpt traditionally or digitally by using just reference scans that 3D sculptors use.

I agree and the only reason I mentioned it is because thenick was wondering why Hot Toys didn't use that technology like a lot of other companies do to produce the most accurate sculpt.

No it isn't and you are right a lot of 3D sculptors are producing great sculpts, simply by using reference scans.

Both are stock here, and the JL one is just out of the box

the sculpted of the three faces is different

wet with hair water, combed with hair foam and shaped each strand with hands curling

The entire situation pisses me off. I cannot believe Hot Toys allowed the JL sculpt to pass Quality Inspection. So many passed on the first one to order the JL WW because it was supposed to be more accurate. SLAP
Now they better fix the 1/4 Ledger sculpt, otherwise I am going to lose my sh@#ttt!!!
