Well on the Live Show today Dave Igo gave a cop out response as to whether the figure was made out of Polystone or not.

Because it's only at the prototype stage he doesn't know!

How as Art Director does he not know what a $715 USD 'flying' statue is going to be made out of?! Isn't that one of the first things that have to be decided when the piece is so called designed and 'engineered'?!

It's ridiculous.

I'm lucky I'm preordering the regular locally, so I can cancel it if it ends up being made from vinyl etc.

Side note: it took me forever to post this as the website kept on redirecting me to some competition or Walmart thing...annoying as all hell.

I thought Sideshow usually stuck with Polystone for their 1/4th stuff, have they done stuff in cold cast porcelain?

He means polyvinyl - a sorta plastic? I guess. So it's lighter than polystone but most people don't think it looks as good. Personally it's probably for the best if it is polyvinyl as this would mean it's less likely to lean over time. I don't think I have any statues made of that so can't really compare...

I believe their Swamp Thing 'Maquette' is unfortunately made out of Viny. So they have a history of using the material. As well as that horrid Predator bust.

And now Prime 1's life size Baby Blue 'statue' as well.

But if you want to get technical even Polystone is a type of plastic, simply with sand or something added into the mixture.

Because if it turns out to be made out of anything other than Polystone, between the time of me finding that out and me officially trying to cancel my preorder, the time will be counted in minutes if not seconds.

lol the only piece I've actually seen is the man of steel pf and that looked rubbish in hand. Wasn't sure if that was due to the vinyl though :dunno

It is worrying how they don't even know what it will be made of - if they're charging that much then it better look like the proto

Resin mixed with some sort of base, silica, stone powder, sand, it can be natural or unnatural resin and different. They usually use a plastic based resin hence the poly short for polymer. Cold porcelain can be made using corn starch or it could be porcelain powder mixed with a resin and a metal material such as aluminum chloride being a monomer. Polyvinyl is basically PVC, I don’t think I’ve ever had a statue made out of that besides smaller Kotobukiya ones, seems like it would feel cheap on larger scale statues, although more durable.

I have one cold cast porcelain statue made with metal, AlphaMax motoko kusanagi (ghost in the shell) and she is really heavy and colder to the touch than Polystone.

I watched a guy fix a Polystone statue mixing baby powder and super glue (super glue is made with polyvinyl and is a polymer, baby powder can be either corn starch ‘cold porcelain basically’ or mineral talc ‘clay made out of magnesium silicate’)

For the Man of Steel, that looks terrible from top to bottom. That failed right from the design stage. No matter what material they used, it wasn't going to save that piece.

I agree, the prototype looks fantastic. I remember the days when I never said that at time of preorder. I would order the EX without any hesitation. Now I think twice about whether a good factory will be working on the specific piece I want to PO. Hopefully this one gets a good factory...

This is from Sideshows website if anybody missed it....

“The polystone Rogue Maquette features a sculpted green and yellow costume, detailed with a variety of fabric-like textures to give added dimension to her iconic uniform.”

That may be, but Dave Igo himself said that he doesn't know what the figure will be made out of!

And if the base is Polystone, it doesn't exactly make that written description wrong. Just a possible lie by omission.

This was posted yesterday, when was the podcast?

This is the thread of mass complaints. Always find something to nitpick. Don’t like a statue, don’t pay for it. Period. Jesus people have nothing better to do that complain like a bunch of ninny’s.

I think as prices go up people are bound to have more hesitations or "nitpick" over things like engineering and materials more.
