But surely they would cater to the needs of far more people if they did comic accurate versions? HT wouldn't release a Batman figure based on their own interpretation, it will be as close to movie accurate as they can get it be that Keaton, Bale, Affleck etc. Why should comic versions be different? Just stick to the source material Sideshow! It isn't that difficult.

The thing is with movie pieces, the designers are as you said sticking as closely as they can with the movie's source material, of which the general movie going public are familiar with how each of the characters are supposed to look like. And if the critiques have been 'harsh' for these Sideshowified pieces, I don't think it compares with what we get in some Star Wars threads with regards to accuracy.

However with this new segment of the collecting community, the same can't be said with the so called comic based versions. Imo with the greater general public now possibly being interested in such pieces, their knowledge of specific or any comic runs is probably limited, and I'm sure they'll be buying a fair percentage of the edition run. Which is why pieces like this will eventually sell. However they probably won't be able to have the 6000 overall piece edition size for pieces such as this. I wonder what edition size is needed before Sideshows required level of profit is met?

I get what your saying and at the end of the day the fans suffer. I actually get more frustrated with game developers especially Nintendo until recently lol. That’s another story. But Sideshow have the licence and they can create what true die hard fans want created. Yet they do their own take. It kinda makes me feel as if they got all this new idea stuff going on since that creation of Thanks and that video of them talking about coming up with something unique. Though that worked really well with Thanos it seems that style has trickled on everything lol. At least do a classic Batman also.

I really believe this modernization movement is a direct response to XM. We didn't see any of these sideshowified PFs until XM came on the scene. Sure, we had sideshow's minimal tweaks, but those were so small most collectors hardly noticed them. XM started this straps, buckles, pouches, zippers, and padding modernization movement and sideshow seems bent on copying them. Wolverine, Magneto, Daredevil, 2nd Cap, and classic Iron Man are a few of the pieces XM released with modern twists (some are pretty drastic or noticeable) to their costumes. It seems that sideshow is now jumping on the modernization bandwagon. This would bother me a lot less if another company could offer classic 1/4 costumes to us here in North America. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

Do you seriously think the "general public" is interested in these? If you're buying a Sideshow statue and dropping hundreds on it, you aren't part of the general public. The general public doesn't even know these exist.

General public within collectors. Of these sideshowfied pieces were not selling I doubt they would continue.

If the want to continue making non comic accurate pieces in this scale fine, but other companies like Prime 1 should then be able to fill the void and offer true comic accurate 1/4 scale DC statues.

Until they have covered every major comic version of Batman from 1940-present day there is no need to do these pieces with their own twist. Don't care if they eventually sell, it still stinks that they won't stick with the source material. Such arrogance for them to think their twist is needed.

Drops the mic...

They know a lot of collectors don’t read comics and have no attachment to costumes so they can just make stuff up. The FB group majority love these new costumes. A lot of the new collectors on the forums like these costumes too.

That’s a pretty fair assumption. Looking at it from your point of view it’s quite true. Just realise also that, the last two pieces (Captain America, DD) were sculpted by Daniel Bel who also did XM Electro, Black Panther and Iron Fist, and I wouldn’t Call any of those 3 pieces modern pieces at all. Yeah I certainly would call pieces like Cable, The Winter Soldier and a few others. But generally I buy XM pieces because they tackle B grade characters. Look at cable not many know about him. The film lands and everyone will suddenly know more about him. Same with Black Panther they do pieces Sideshow ignore. Lizard Doc Oc Scorpion. So I give them big credit for doing so. They kinda took a chance with their Samurai Batman line. And it’s been a success for them. But I agree that Sideshow has jumped on the XM trend when they really didn’t need to.

Honestly the only think keeping me away from this is fear that the cape will look like **** no matter how it’s posed.

Fabric cape should be banished haha

I prefer sculpted items on most of my statues, but I just love the simple draping look of the p/leather capes on my 1/3 and 1/2 Batman statues. The Batfleck statues would look worse with sculpted capes in my opinion.

Yup I prefer sculpted capes but I do like mixed media when it’s done properly. Prime1 did a fantastic job of offering two versions for their Superman 1/3 at least people have some kind of choice.

I think sculpted looks great when done well but I'd always prefer fabric capes due to space and weight. And you can alter it to your liking

hahahahahaha... As long they can make the fabric looks not cheap and don't deteriorate, different case then.

I’ve been reading White Knight and it features similar leg design to this so I guess this could be considered somewhat comic accurate

Of course the artwork looks way better than what sideshow did.
