Won't work. The sculpt comes with a neck and you need to use the connector part. Since the hole is also different, you might wanna heat up Dooku's head with a blow dryer to soften him up a bit. Try finding the regular body TTM with the neck connector part. I forgot which one that is.

Hi everybody.
I am thinking of buying the Exclusive Malgus from a local shop. Item is new, trays must still be sealed.
Anyway, I am worried by a certain review I've seen in Youtube, which goes into much more detail than most others (which are quite superficial btw, as if they were trying to sell you the figure), and reveals a worrying series of shortcomings on the figure itself:

1) Head has very paltry mobility. Eyes look upwards, yet the head cannot lean downwards at all, and as a result you can't get the menacing look the eyes were made for, but a quite ridiculous figure that's always looking up into the sky.

2) Many armour parts, plus the boots, are made of a rubber material, for no reason at all, and which will certainly become sticky in time.

3) Jumpsuit made of a very stiff material, articulation reduced to null.

4) Ankle mobility very hampered by stiff boots.

5) Body is real bad, can't hold stances, let alone deep ones.

What of all this is true? Some of you must have owned the figure for years now. How is it holding up?

Thanks everybody for your time and help.
m.

1. Mobility is a little meh looking down but thats from the armor and his suit piece around the neck.

2. No issue with this.

3 No issue with articulation either

4. Ankles seem to move the same as my Ver 1 Maul and RO Vader. Honestly shouldnt be an issue, hes not into ballet.

5. Body on mine as stood up very well. Can hold the poses I put it in pretty well.

I've had my Malgus since the day he was released here in Canada and mine seems to have held up. Better than some of my newer figures.

Hi solomonic_knight.
Thanks for your input.
So glad you vision is positive!
Regarding the ankles: as far as I know Sideshow's first Maul han 0 ankle articulation, due to his boots made of rock. On the contrary, HT's RO Vader sports pleather boots, with which ankle mobility should be made certain. Malgus is not into ballet, but he sure is into Jedi fighting. That does require lots of ankle articulation. You don't kill a Jedi by just standing, right? So, Malgus needs his ankles, but then you mean his are stiff?

Have you performed any mods to your Maul? Any particular treatement/care to keep it OK in the long run?

And anybody else willing to share their impressions?

Thanks!
m.

I haven't opened mine yet, I'm not even sure where it's at. :) I'll try to find it on Wednesday and will let you know. I thought Michael Crawford reviewed this but I guess not.

Actually, just check this out. These guys aren't making vids any more, but always seemed pretty objective to me even though there was a connection with SS at some point.

They do not touch on articulation on that review. When you review an action figure, you should touch on articulation. That is paramount.

I have seen plenty of pictures posted of this figure and don't remember people putting it in extreme poses. Most people don't play with figures like you obviously do.

He is an awesome figure but his articulation is definitely hindered by his suit. He is more of a Darth Vader - stand and force choke you out from a distance than a Darth Maul whipping around and flipping and stuff. The rubber-ish pieces of armor have not deteriorated or gotten sticky on my figure (I have the exclusive which I pre-ordered when he first went up). These pieces Velcro onto the under suit. I cant remember about the ankles/boots but overall he will not get into crouch stances. I have mine standing tall with a force grip and light saber like he is force-pulling the huge spaceship hull into the Jedi Temple like in the novel. The two heads both have awesome paint work, some of Sideshow's best in my opinion. The rebreather mask looks cool but I have him with his uninjured head on most of the time and the hood up but not occluding the sculpt as it is really good.

My one gripe is that this was the period when Sideshow was experimenting with Light Saber thickness and this is the "pool noodle" era so it looks like a huge red tube and looks dumber than all the other sabers in my collection except for Padawan Obi Wan and Sideshow Deluxe Vader who have similar thick rods.

I don't know how much you are looking to spend on him but I think he is a great looking figure and adds a lot to my Sith display as he is quite tall and imposing.

I do not play with figures.
I just try to make story-telling 1/6 dioramas, looking for meaningful and beautiful synergies emerging from the combination of figures making up such dioramas.
To that aim, I need be able to squeeze any expressiveness out of figures, and that includes dynamic posing.
That is NOT playing. After all, when you are in your 40s, who plays with anything anymore?
As far as I am concerned, dynamic posing is a must for any articulated action figure. To me, it is detolfs and museum-poses that doesn't make any sense at all, especially considering prices we pay for 1/6 stuff these days. That kind of pure icon worshipping is definitely not my cup of tea.

What most people do with their figures is not really that relevant when deciding what to do with mine.

m.

Vader kicks some ass in the OT, both in Bespin and Endor. And now also in RO. Vader was not only an ageing choker. That's for sure.
And let's not talk about godd ol' Malgie. Just look at the damn trailers.....
To try and re-create any of those moments, you need dynamic posing, so I am not asking for much here.

Glad that rubber is somehow sealed or shielded against rotting.

Thanks for all your input, Mr Baumann. Much appreciated, but could you go on a bit more regarding the suit hinderance? Is it due to the pleather jumpsuit, the armour, or both?
And could you also please try and rock a bit those ankles and knees on your Malgus, see if they can actually hold dynamic poses?

Boyz and galz, I am getting Malgus. Exclusive.
And since Mr Baumann has explained his use of Malgus, I'll tell you guys about mine!

I will use him to parttake in a Jedi hunt party, along with a reconstructed Darth Maul and a female Sith apprentice I am working on. The prays: Plo Koon, Kit Fisto and Mace Windu. The first survived his assumed death after crashing with his starfighter, but because of not receiving proper medical care right on the spot (as he had to rush into hiding and stay low), he was left deaf for life. The second survived his little encounter with Sidious' lightsaber thanks to the Republic's Public Automatic Healthcare System, but was left with a limp because after Order 66 was issued it was wiser to quickly vanish, which made it impossible for Kit to get any further medical aid to recover his normal walk. Last but not least, Windu was actually saved from his free fall at the end of ROTS, again by the Republic's Public Healthcare Service, but not before him hitting against a flying car, which combined with intense Sith Radiation exposure caused him losing one eye in the event. Med droids managed to provide him with a very powerfulrobot hand right on the spot but Order 66 made it impossible for Windu to get any further treatment for his eye, so he just had to cover it with a patch, then get the hell out of Coruscant. These 3 Jedis were found about and brought together by a 4th Jedi knight, a Duros, only survivor of an expeditionary force sent by the Jedi Order to the Outer Rim years before the AOTC/ROTS events. Upon returning with vital, game-changing information to deliver to the now extinct Jedi order, the 4th Jedi was warned early about Order 66, and he immediatey set out to go stealth and try to find any surviving Jedis, so that they could be smuggled away to the Outer Rim Systems (a much safer place now, all things considered). There, reconstruction of the Jedi Order might be possible.

Oh yes... I forgot to tell you...
The Jedi hunt party leverages the knowledge of a traitor Jedi, who is helping the Sith find and destroy any active Jedi operators remaining across the galaxy. The reasons for this Jedi's terrible treason are linked to his failure to strictly follow the Jedi Code, which clearly states that Jedis shouldn't develop any love feelings for anybody. Unfortunately though, sometimes the line that separates friendship from love is too thin.
A mistake in telling that line can have a great cost. Or just cost everything.

Nice premise, eh? I'll pitch it to that Kennedy lady......

I don't think MC ever reviewed this one.

Well.. It is finally Wednesday! It is take-Malgus-finally-off-the-box day!
Let us all know! And take pics!

I did try looking for this, I found hoth luke, hoth han, Bruce lee, iron monger, and a bunch of empty boxes with accessories in them for other figures, and asm 2 spidey, but this must be in a different room or closet. Sorry I'll keep looking, if you saw these rooms you would understand, it's a bit like the warehouse the ark is stored in.

Lucky you.......
Anything for sale??? I look for that big HT Spidey 3 stone base ...
:)

I just stopped in here to say I will be forever bitter at Disney for getting rid of Darth Malgus. He's one of five EU characters I absolutely hate having to live in a Star Wars world without. Fingers crossed that since Darth Bane gets to live on in Star Wars lore, maybe there's hope for Malgus someday.

Effing Disney.

Ah, Malgus. You can do cool things with Malgus. But it's challenging, and it doesn't always look right from every angle. The torso is locked. No articulation there whatsoever, as the armor is one solid piece, as I recall, with the pauldrons being separate. (It's been a while since I shot him. I actually think that they might be two pieces, but so tightly interlocked that it makes little difference.)

Dynamic, museum, whatever works for you. I've done both. The trouble is that a lot of people think that they're doing the figures justice by hitting a dynamic pose, but they just wind up making the figure look awkward. If you're going to be all about dynamism, be sure that you know what you're doing.
