Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

There's a proto Connery in Tux at the BCS stand at the Birmingham NEC show this weekend. Seems it's part of wave 3,

Very interesting. 2x waves. I like it.

Hope someone takes a picture. Is it black tux or white dinner jacket?

EDIT: found a pic... inside cabinet, unpainted head. Looks like Dr. No...

An overcoat in the background as well...?

That throws me. Did he have an overcoat when he left the casino in Dr. No?

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

I think he didn't.But is it very same Inigo's Goldfinger's Connery
sculpt?

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

Temp sculpt I'm sure, that's why unpainted. People have probably asked where's a Bond in signature tux so they decided to give it up.

Very curious to see their Dr. No.

Man, I'm so excited for this line. I really hope the production pieces are close if not exact to proto.

I hope not. I'm only getting Connery (but I'll wait to get it second hand) and while the grey suit looks great, and the sculpt is OK - if a bit of a caricature - the paint is just weird. He looks like he's been dipped in wood varnish. The only good thing about it is that it looks a little like Bond from the Thunderball poster (perhaps it was meant to be stylised rather than realistic?). I might put him in the old Sideshow Thunderball scuba outfit if I get him and sell the suit.

They did a great figure once, I think it was the eleventh doctor, and the factory paint job was uncanny. I hope it turns out like that.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

I had a long and detailed chat with one of the guys on the Big Chief stand at Memorabilia and got lots of forthcoming info. You've already seen the pic of the Connery so won't bother posting mine. Hopefully I can remember everything I was told:

1/ They are able to and will do all six Bonds although as it stands EON have asked that they focus on older characters and specifically NOT Brosnan and Craig
2/ Dalton will be based on Living Daylights
3/ Some sculpts like Connery are Inigos design but have been modified by someone else although can't remember their name
4/ EON are heavily involved in the process and get final approval on everything - the guy said they are very invested in details even including the right shade is used on the tux
5/ The next wave is Live and Let Die - Moore in the black outfit, Baron Samedi and Solitaire
6/ A huge amount of work has gone into Solitaire's dress and is apparently beautiful - she will come with her cards and a table
7/ The third wave is Dr No - The Connery on display will be in that wave BUT will have a different head. The head on display was the Goldfinger head.
8/ The Dr No Connery comes with an overcoat and there was talk of him coming with a hat but I think the guy said to me its been scrapped

That's pretty much all I can remember but don't think I missed anything. I can tell you the guy I spoke to was really nice and more than happy to chat about the line with anyone asking. He was hugely passionate and it's clear the company really cares about the line. Stopping by their stand on Saturday and chatting to him was my highlight of the day.

Pitty about Moore will be in simple black LALD outfit :(

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

Moore & Solitaire is great news! Can't wait to see. But no Yaphet Kotto Mr. Big?

You know you've got me doubting my own memory now especially as I can recall him saying something about two heads. I'm 100% about Moore and Solitaire and near certain about it being Samedi but you have got me a little bugged on what I was told third figure wise. Does it sound right that Samedi could have two heads?

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

I've had a private message asking about the Connery sculpt so here's my pics. Was absolutely spot on in person - I can't see how anyone who saw it on the day could take any issue with it.image2.jpg image1.jpg

Thanks for gathering all of this fantastic information!

I'm surprised that BCS is so willing to talk about their Bond line, and even show off a prototype of their Dr. No Connery, but have not yet made an official announcement.

Anyway, I'm very excited to see Moore, Solitaire, and Samedi, (or Kananga) next! Although most would probably like to see Moore in a suit, there is no denying that his black LALD outfit is very iconic, and since we've already seen a new Connery with a tuxedo, we'll likely see a variation on Moore as well. :)

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

LALD! I'm surprised -- would have bet the farm on SWLM. But I'm eager to see Solitaire and Baron.

Thanks for that info!

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

Does it sound right that Samedi could have two heads?

Yes: 1) skull face head and 2) half-white, half-black head for instance. Or even laughing head. If its his skeletal look (as assumed) the outfit itself is fairly simple so a 2nd head would justify costs.

That is my guess. But it could be Kananga in that cream suit with red shirt and two heads: Mr. Big AND Kananga... since that's the scene where he reveals himself.

I think on the shelf, Samedi might POP more as a unique figure (not a man in suit) and he's the character that the games tend to use. I would think EON would license Samedi.

The more I think about it I'm convinced it was Samedi but we went through so many details and was in a rush because I had to get to a photo shoot. The guy told me all the planned accessories for the figures but asking me to remember them is near impossible sorry. I do recall though that he said the Dr No Connery will come with both a Beretta and PPK and the little presentation box.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

Hmmm. Not impressed with the choice of LALD black outfit, sideshow's version is still perfectly useable so I would have preferred a different outfit. Not sure why they need to do a wave based around a movie either.

Excited by everything else they're saying.

That's the one I prefer so I'm over the moon! Sideshow's version is very poor from an accuracy point of view. They got the cut of the trousers wrong and didn't even bother getting the holster or the chukka boots right. Looking forward to seeing what BCS do with it.

I wasn't able to get to the show over the weekend but it all sounds really positive from BCS.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

BHG, do you remember which dress they said Solitaire would be wearing by chance? I know its unlikely one could tell from the 'word' dress but I didn't know if they mentioned from what scene.

I'm guessing the gold and orange one from the scene where Bond is going to get his pinky snipped off. But it could be the red one from her first meeting with Bond at the card table (since the table's included).
