They are indeed for fixing the units to the wall, if that's what you intend to do.
You can have them flat to the floor or on legs but Ikea suggest you still fix the to a wall with a bracket or tether for safety.
Ikea never provide fixings outside actual furniture use (screws/rawlplugs).

I know I'm getting back to you late here, but do you know or anyone else that has used these ikea shelves and not secured them to the wall. If I have to would it still have to go into a stud? I'm afraid to do trial and error, walk home and see everything on the floor lol.

Mine aren't secured to the wall. Never had a problem.

Now I may not have enough PF/statues to fill up both besta vertical shelves I bought. I bought the lower ones around 50 inches high. Would you say I should always place something heavy in the bottom spot first or could I just place a statue in the upper spot and still be fine weight wise?

If you're not going to secure them to the wall, then I'd put something heavy on the bottom before filling up the tops. I store all my "art of..." books on the bottom shelves.

I always put heavier pieces on the bottom anyway.

I use legs, on carpet, and have the front ones slightly higher so the unit tilts back slightly.

Alright. Was just worried about putting my new sweetheart, Cable, on a shelf. He's 14 kg.

Anyone have pics of 1/6 figures in a besta with Glassvik doors?

Also, curious to see if anyone has a white besta with black doors...

IMG_8781.jpgRecently purchased and completed building these. Still WIP; need to hang pics and rearrange, but you get the idea. Glasvik doors are pretty nice. Get the spring-loaded hinges and don't install the metal handles.

I was thinking about not securing mine, but once I assembled them, they were very tippy, especially with open doors. Secured with one screw on single Besta unit, and two screws for double. Best to be safe.

Sweet! So these are the 75" bestas right? Do you mind taking a front view pic of the HT avengers? My plan is to use these bestas for 1/6 figures.
