Re: Molecule8 (New company)

it looks fantastic as an action figure, awesome!
the body proportion, muscle details are perfect!
are you sure its a cg? i will preorder it if its not.

You're in the wrong thread. This one is for POs based on CG only.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

Customers claiming a refund on a faulty CG render must provide video and/or photographic evidence of its destruction before a refund will be issued.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

That's cool - the longer I have to wait and the more I have to pay the more exclusive it'll feel.

Then they will say there is not difference in the rendering from the CG models they have in house.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

Do you know what innovative means in this hobby? Expensive, that's what it means. I've said it before. The whole hobby is going to take a hit because some of you are willing to pay top dollar for a flashy skeleton that no one is going to see. When I got into this hobby figures were 20 to 30 bucks. Now because of "innovation" they are 150 to 250. Now excuse me for not wanting to pay for innovation that I'm not even going to be able to see. How much poseability does John Lennon need? Willy Wonka? I've said before, this figure may be 300. 2 figures down the road will be 350 then 400. This company is aimed at those who think nothing of spending a grand or more for a figure. I would never spend that much on a figure. But it will affect prices of figures I do collect. Wait and see.

One can purchase the endoskeleton only ;) And there are those who would pay the $299 just for the Lennon head sculpt. I've been in the hobby since 1999 and I don't remember any fully kitted figures costing $20-30... Some of the Dragon and BBI figures were already starting to reach the $100 mark back then, and they were often of mediocre quality with less articulation, less detail and intricacy/accuracy of design... Most of the head sculpts looked terrible in comparison with what we see with a high quality production figure today. To each his or her own, my friend. I don't mind paying the coin if I feel the quality is worth it. Simply stated, comparing figures from 1999 with those of today, especially using cost as the comparison, is a bit unrealistic in my opinion.

Whaaat? :rotfl
I've been in this hobby for that long and early figures from Dragon, BBI, and Sideshow were $30-$40 range. If you didn't know where to pick them up for normal prices, then you'd pay $50. Only Dragon's SOLDAT series and Cyber-Hobby exclusives started to run higher at $70. Hot Toys were $70-$100 and Medicom were $100-$150 but were always ridiculously overpriced here in the US (metal fasteners shouldn't cost that much more and most HT figures didn't have those).
Innovation isn't what's pushing the price hikes in this hobby, it's the rising costs of production in China and the limited sized production runs. Sideshow figures used to be sold at main stream retail like Suncoast and TRU, now they're increasingly exclusive through Sideshow.com and are in much smaller production numbers.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

I was living in Japan at the time... Perhaps I was overpaying a bit, lol! I do remember some figures that were in the $50 range, but most I saw in Tokyo were more expensive. Most likely a mark-up. This is way before the ease of internet access and purchasing online. And I agree with you concerning reasons for the rising cost of figures, especially from certain brands.

Re: Molecule8 (New company)

Yes, you could buy the Sideshow Bond line at Towers Records (memba them?) for $29.99 on initial release. I know, because I bought them. And that was 2002.

Yup! Tower Records! What was the other one? Anyway, I bought my first figure at a small toy store in Akihabara, Tokyo... BBI Navy Seal, had a mouth that opened and closed using a key that you'd stick in a slot under the rubber skin on the back of the neck... Cost me about 9000 Yen or so (around $80 usd) if I remember correctly. Meh, maybe it was less. Ahhh, memories!
