That's nothing to do with the outfit, that's down to the way in which the filming of the scene was organised, and I'm guessing particularly in the UK. I can imagine it wasn't much fun being dressed that way in January, in the UK, in front of a British film crew. But if she felt humiliated then that's to do with the way those scenes were organised, not the outfit.

You can't prioritise a narrative over a person, they're two completely separate things, and a third is a performance in a narrative.

There are any number of urgent issues in the world today surrounding the representation and oppression of women, and the great space bikini debate is somewhere near the bottom.

Nerd-lecturing? Well, thank God you're not a nerd and not lecturing anyone!

I want to see a debate about Jabba's rights - he was naked and chained to Carrie Fisher for much of ROTJ, then became the victim of an extra-judicial killing. Justice for Hutts now!

You've provided no clarity here :dunno

Everything I've had to say about it I've said :wave

Boycotting Leia's bikini because there were unprofessional jerks on the set is like boycotting Hoth figures because Mark Hamill said Norway was uncomfortably cold.

Or Batman figures because every single actor whose played Bruce Wayne said they hated wearing the suit. Fisher herself has never complained of the context of the outfit in the movie, only that she disliked wearing it on set.

She has also said that she thinks being put off by the outfit on collectibles is "stupid." Her word, not mine.

Everyone's view is simply that: a personal opinion. And if we're all discussing subjective matters - which this is - then try not to use teacher-voice terms like "nerd-lecturing" and "irrelevant observations" when you're in fact doing the same thing, just from a different side of the discussion.:dunno

Nerd lecturing = talking about the issue from a purely narrative perspective, when the issue is broader.

Irrelevant observations - ie non sequiturs - are just that.

Perhaps you can quote instances where I've made irrelevant observations or reduced the issue to a singular perspective? I suspect you just don't like my tone :lol

Nail on the head, my friend.:lol

And... the fact you have a different opinion makes me fear for my safety.:lecture

The majority of news reporting these days = talking about the issue from a purely narrative perspective, when the issue is broader.

As the late Prince would say... sign o' the times.

I don't blame you. I'm bored and stirring the pot a bit. I don't especially care about it to be honest :lol

:lol I have her posed next to the old HT George Lucas figure and he's pointing his finger at her in a strong "humiliate Carrie" pose.

Ironically enough, when Leia is in action, the white ANH dress kinda "shows more" than the ROTJ bikini. And what's really odd is that discussion focuses on how revealing Leia's outfit is, yet you can literally see fully exposed breasts (albeit painted green) on Oola, and most never seemed to even know it existed - and I'm sure no one would say a word if HT or SSC announced an Oola figure.

The Oola thing always struck me as odd that it was never called out in film ratings as "brief nudity" - because it's exactly what it is.

I fear George and Disney will be getting together soon to release the Extra Special Snowflake Edition with all the naughty parts removed for sensitive viewers.

Good God, NO!
Harmy's Despecialized Editions all day, for me.

I just think that if she really had a problem with it she would have voiced it. She doesn't seem like the shy type but more the firecracker. If she truly did not want to do it she could have filed a complaint with the actors guild union.

Or just go work at McDonalds.
