Hi guys I'm new here.

I have hesitated a lot between the regular and Black chrome... Finally went for the Black Chrome and got it a couple of days ago.

Going to give a very honest opinion, I really don't give a damn about the money it costs, all that matters to me is the end result and my personal appreciation.

I was very happy with it when unboxing it and posing it, it looks extremely impressive, it may even be the most impressive Hot Toys figure I've ever seen. Like, my most personal favorite figure from HT is Terminator Battle Damaged from the first Terminator movie, and Batman absolutely dwarfs it, it makes my T-800 look ridiculous, I didn't expect that haha.

However, beyond the limited articulations and weak ankles (I don't mind it really, I expected this figure to be heavy and not very posable, and in general, I never take big risks with Hot Toys, if I want to pose a figure like crazy, I'm going for Play Arts Kai, I buy Hot Toys for the accuracy, details, and overall look), one thing I really hate with this Black Chrome Paint Figure is that you need a lot of natural light to really enjoy it.

The so-called "black chrome" paint doesn't look good in artificial light, and even with blue neons, it looks weird and "fake". It's certainly NOT shiny, absolutely nothing like the promo pics, it looks very "plastic-like" in artificial light. However, when the day comes, when you have natural light, it looks exactly like in the movie, the paint is very subtle and have a wet look to it. It was really made for natural bright light (which I fear doesn't do well for the regular version).

Also, there are a lot of "white" painted areas here and there, and these parts look weird with artificial light as well.

I wish we could've gotten a paint as shown in the promo pics. It does look glossy but not as much as I expected it to be. And it's definitely not shiny, as chrome is supposed to be.

Overall it's a very solid figure, very impressive, but I'm really tempted to buy the regular version as well now. First I only wanted to go for the Black Chrome, but I feel the need to see the regular one in person and compare it to the Black Chrome. I think the regular one might do it better for me as I don't have that much light in my home and even if I had, I gotta work and really only enjoy these figures at night with an artificial light.

So yeah.. I'll see and give you new thoughts about this figure when I get the regular version. For now I really feel the black gets old pretty quickly and definitely not the result I wanted to see. The sculpt is glorious though, and it's really the only model I wanted out of the Bat V Supes movie (the Knightmare and normal suit look great too but I really dig the armor version a lot more, it just looks badass). I'll try to get good pics for you, I got a pretty good camera.

Welcome to SSF, justaguy -- and congrats on your Black Chrome Armored Batman! Sorry to hear how you feel about this figure though. It's hard to take pictures of this figure, that's true. In hand it's a different story, IMO. The one I saw on display was under LED lights, and it looks terrific, I thought even the professional photobloggers didn't capture its real beauty.

I have the regular armor, and I would highly recommend that as well. It's just as awesome in person, and is quite more photogenic :)

Enjoy the forums!

Thank you Michael :)

Hmm I may consider LED lights, don't have those in my home yet. Again it's really a matter of lighting, under natural light, it does look absolutely amazing. I'm just disappointed it doesn't look as good under most artificial light, it's no Robocop or Deadpool figure that really adapt to whatever light.

I'm definitely going to grab the regular version when I can, I'm just a bit afraid of the grey color which seem to look really bright in natural light, but in most photos I've seen, he looks fantastic, and yeah like you say, he looks way more photogenic. I've seen some pics of the black chrome in the thread and they indeed don't do justice to the real thing, but that's because of the artificial light, in person it really affects the render of the paint job.

Then again I still have a lot of other Hot toys I'm interested in, they really went all out this year, the amount of great figures they released is insane, you can't go wrong with them. They do a fantastic job. I just expected the black chrome to be way more shiny and reflective like in the promo pics.. But it's still a brilliant figure, will definitely keep it in my collection.

Interesting about the artificial light effect on this figure. I wish I could see for myself but won't receive mine before December. I'm having very bright daylight white LED's installed so hopefully that brings out the best in this figure.

Glad you like it overall though. I to found it hard to decide which version to get.

Well if you have bright daylight, you will love it. Sadly there isn't much natural light coming in my collection's room, so I had to bring the figure in the living room to really see how it looks under daylight and the difference is huge. It really captures the scene from the movie imo, it looks so badass.
Under yellow light or neons though, it looses a lot of the paint job effect, you can't see the subtle paint job and the tone difference between the costume (which is grey) and the armor (which is black). It almost looks all-black under artificial light, when in daylight, you can tell it's dark grey + black with a wet effect. And when you put the lights on, it's just perfect.

So yeah I'm def going to grab the regular version as well, I may end up putting the black chrome in the living room, which would be the first Hot Toys I put there, will have to be careful of my cat and girlfriend and friends though, generally i lock my collection's room, don't want anybody to come in there haha.

I really want to say I DO love the figure even with the flaws I mentioned, I just feel the promo photos didn't really showed us what we got and I really had those photos in mind for months, so... I don't know, I may get used to it with time, I may prefer it over the regular once I compare the two in hand, it's a real hard choice on this once, but no matter what, it's definitely a must have if you love the design of the armor, it just looks so badass.

I think both figures look great, can't go wrong with either. It just comes down to personal preference. I went with the regular version simply because when it comes down to it, that's the armor that he wore in the movie, regardless of what it "looked" like on screen due to different lighting in different scenes. Lighting can be changed, but the suit always remains the same and the armored suit that he wore was the regular version.

I've seen a lot of good pictures of the BC armor, but I do admit that one thing I don't like about it is indeed the white paint you mentioned. A lot of the scratches and knicks on it seem a bit too embellished and pronounced. They look a bit more natural to me on the regular version because it doesn't have the white paint.

Good luck with whichever one you go with. Can't go wrong with either as mentioned.

I bought the black chrome because he didn't wear it in the movie and I won't have to think about that film hopefully at all when I look at it.

I need to pick up a lot more rubble, but you get the idea

the whole scene when they're outside in the rain looks exactly like the BC version.

Just got my charging soon email from Sideshow for this bad boy! Excited to add him to my regular and Knightmare Bats for the full BvS Batman collection! Only thing that's tarnishing this one for me is that alternate, lame stand. I need the normal one for all 3 of my Batman figures to be consistent (>\<) !!!

Oh man. I didnt get much sleep last night. After getting my 2 weeks email notification, I have decided that I was gonna cancel my order.
But I couldnt get myself to cancel it last night. Kept checking my account to see if Sideshow have charged me yet, and each time, I hover over my order's cancel button.
When thinking about keeping the order, I also couldnt decide between this or the regular. Spent most of the night looking at youtube videos of reviews.
I saw, they finally charged my account. I still cant decide whether I like this or regular. :gah:

It was tough cause personally, judging strictly on appearance, I do love the black chrome better, but the regular is the real costume.
Oh well, I guess I can decide when I receive the figure, I can always sell it and try to pick the regular if I change my mind. But at least I need to see this in hand to make the decision. Had I gone with the regular, I'm sure I would have had doubts also and wonder if I should have bought the black chrome.

Damn you Hot Toys!!! Why did you have to have all the BvS line amazing!!! lol.

I had the same problem as you so i bought both of them. In fact my waitlist for the regular version just converted over the weekend & I just paid the nrd today. I'll decide once i have them both in hand which one i like better in my display, if i like them both equally i just keep them both if not ill sell whichever one i like least. Like you, I also would have second guessed my choice had i not ordered both.

Both look great, so the good news is you can't really go wrong either way. I have never seen the BC one in hand, but from what I have seen in pictures, the only thing I don't really like about it is I think the weathering and the knicks on the armor look to be a little too pronounced and embellished with the white paint. Both look awesome as I mentioned, but I personally went with the regular one simply because when it comes down to it, it's the real, screen accurate costume as you said, regardless of what may look more aesthetically pleasing.

That is the smart thing to do. I wish there was a place here that sells hot toys, and see which one I like better.

To the Black chrome's defense, since only a select few have had these in hand recently, most of the pics I've seen are not doing justice to the figures.
And not to offend anyone who have posted pics, but I absolute hate...HATE pics taken with flash. it distorts and washes out figures, many times, making them look cheap. That's why I think quite a few of the pics make it look like the weathering and the white paint separating the armore look too pronounced.

Have you seen Optobotimus' video review?
That's what I have based my opinion on, cause it looks amazing with the lighting.

But I do agree with you, I'm still torn cause although I find BC more aesthetically pleasing, the true costume is the regular.

The figure does look really good in that video. The scratches and knicks on his torso actually look a little more muted than I have seen in other photos, but the scratches on the sculpt still look a little too pronounced for my personal liking. I don't have it in hand as I mentioned, so I'm not sure if even that video is doing the sculpt justice by causing them to look a bit more embellished than what they actually are in hand. The white paint separating the armor pieces actually doesn't look all that bad to me and never has even in pictures I've seen. It's more the scratches on the actual armor that have seemed a bit too emphasized to me. As mentioned though, they look a lot more muted in that video.

A lot of people, including Optibotimus in that video, claim that the BC's screen accuracy is that the BC causes it to have a nice wet shine that emulates the way the armor looked during the fight sequence in the rain. Which I would absolutely agree with and is what makes it look cool to me. However, I wouldn't consider the way a suit looks in various lightings in a film as being screen accuracy. Screen accurate to me is what the suit actually looks like that was worn. To get a better idea of what it actually looks like, I think you'd actually have to look at behind the scenes or filming photos. Lighting, tones and effects in a film can all change from scene to scene, whereas the actual color of a suit always stays constant.

You take really good pictures though, so I'm sure your pictures of the BC figure once you receive it will look marvelous and the figure will look utterly stunning. :duff

Just got my shipping notification... third Batman from this line is on the way. Score!
