Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Man I really hope they don't suck as bad as Tyler but it's not looking good. Looks like a sideshow figure when it promised Hot Toys quality.
I have the 4 pack on order. Deciding wether or not to cancel it.
Looks like no one can touch Hot Toys at the moment.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Blitzway lost a huge amount of $$$ today- wow.

Well put. I canceled earlier today...at the price point that the 4 pack is set at I don't want to have to talk myself into it or excuse and justify flaws...Hot Toys has spoiled me into expecting better quality for my money...Tyler Durden pictures today tell the story that Blitzway is not at the Hot Toys level.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Hard to swallow that $90 NRD from timewalkertoys. :(

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I'm going to hold onto my preorder until production photos come out in a few months. Tyler Durden's awful production piece could be a warning sign, but there's always the chance that Blitzway learns from the backlash and brings their A game with the Ghostbusters. Or they cancel them and cower in the corner. Who knows...

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Wow so most people are cancelling, this is worrying and quite depressing :(

If I cancel now I lose £75, that's a lot to just throw away. If they are bad I'm wondering if I could just sell them straight on and lose less than that £75

It is a terrible predicament but if you have spent any time on the Tyler Durden thread today I am not sure that there will be many takers unless Blitzway pulls off a miracle! May be best to cut your losses or see if the store will let you shift the deposit over to something else (that is what I did earlier today).

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I maybe suggest posting or messaging the Blitzway Facebook page letting them know that you guys aren't happy at least this would possibly help with future release's such as Ghostbusters.

I'm not cancelling until I see the final product.

My sentiments as well.

The TD figure doesn't portend well for the Ghostbusters, but it's possible BW sees the backlash of that figure and realizes that level of quality with the paint apps just isn't going to cut it, and really steps it up for the Ghostbusters. I'd imagine that's the set they'd really want to make their mark with that will either make or break them, more so than TD. Unlikely to see that drastic of an improvement in such a short time, but you never know.

I'm getting the Ghostbusters, not TD, so I'll wait for final production photos of the Ghostbusters before deciding whether or not I officially pull out. I'll most likely eat the NRD, but I'd rather eat that rather than pay the full price for figures that I know I'd be disappointed with and not be proud to have in my collection.

Less than stellar Ghostbusters figures are really going to hurt interest and sales in Ecto-1 I'd imagine. No figures, no car.

Which is why I still have hope the ghostbusters sculpts will be good because those that would buy the ecto are those that will not buy the figures if the head sculpts are bad which means no ecto 1 sales. You would think blitzway knows this.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Gotta love those day-one-poorly-lit-over-the-top-macro-setting-photos.

The exploding Durden thread reminds me of the DX07 thread the day photos were released. Panic ensued, mass cancellations ensued, pitch-forks and fire brands were polished of and lit.

Two or three weeks passed, proper in-hand photos dropped in the hands of decent photographers.

Mass re-ordering ensued. Pitch-forks and fire brands were put away.

rinse and repeat situation.

I'm keeping my p.o. for the 4 pack.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I'm not cancelling yet but might reconsider when updated pics are released. I stupidly assumed prototypes could only get better not worse so this has come as a bit of a shock. If these do turn out bad I think i'll just stick to Hot Toys figures for a while.

This is exactly what came to my mind as well with that thread. Well said.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Not cancelling my Dr. 3-Pack because I'm not going to base my opinions on Ghostbusters figures based on the final product of another figure. I'll wait to see what the final product for the Ghostbusters looks like before I make a decision, because that's what I'm getting. I do concede though that the initial photos of that TD figure have me concerned. It's my first time ordering from BW and as they say, first impressions go a long way.

Normally I'd agree that it's funny to see mass panic ensue after the first initial photos of a final product for a figure. However, when it's a relatively unknown company attempting to make a splash in the 1/6 scale industry and the first revealed photos of their final product is severely underwhelming, I think concerns are justifiable. When it's a well known company like HT who has proven time and time again why they are the number one 1/6 scale producer, I think a lot of the panic that ensues after a final product is released is humorous because it's more people just looking for something wrong with it rather than something actually being "wrong" with it.

In the TD case, it is indeed pretty bad and is an extreme far cry from what the prototype showed.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I'll admit I'm a little concerned. It's a lot of money to risk all at once on a product that may or may not look close to the prototypes. I guess that's the case with every company, but I've never ordered a Blitzway product before. Not sure what level of prototype-real thing drop in quality to expect.

I based all my assumptions on Hot Toys that the prototype was just a rough early sketch and it would continue to be improved until release. If this is typical Blitzway seem to do the reverse of that.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I can't think of any examples in the 1/6 market where a production piece is better than the prototype and I'd never assume that to be the case; although I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish for that to happen with every figure. I think Hot Toys has been able to match production to prototype, but I think it's safe to say that production pieces will almost always be worse than prototypes simply because of the normal loss of sculpt detail involved in the manufacturing process (sculpting more detail on the original piece can partially mitigate this) and how much attention a prototype will get to generate the pre-orders (and licensor approval) versus the level of attention each figure gets in mass production.

Of course, stellar production paint can make up for loss of sculpt detail. Skilled painters really can work wonders. I've seen plenty of pictures of generic dolls painted to look almost lifelike, but who can afford to have every sculpt repainted by a master? And at today's prices, no repainting should be necessary.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Hot Toys seems to have three phases. Initial prototype tends to be rough and disappointing, second phase looks amazing and creepily life-like, and the final product looks like a somewhat less impressive version of the second. The Fight Club figures look like they replaced the final stage with the first.
