I received my "10 day" email from BBTS for my Akazonae Royal Guard. Unfortunately postal workers will be locked out starting this Friday so its delivery will be delayed even more. :(

Hello all,

I'm not a new collector but I am brand new to this forum. I've been admiring the many wonderful pictures here.

Currently I own the stormtrooper, sandtrooper and Boba Fett figures, with the Royal Guard arriving soon.

I am presently debating whether I should go ahead and splurge on the drummer as well. I really like the concept of a diverse samurai army but I find the drummer doesn't quite mesh with the Star Wars aesthetic as well as previous releases. There's no direct parallel to this trooper in the Imperial army, at least in the films. And since these are not cheap to import to Canada, I really should be more selective going forward.

One idea I had would be to substitute the Royal Guard's red chest emblem in place of the drum, in order to make this figure more flexible for other uses. But I'm not sure if this would actually work, or how good it would look.

I would really appreciate it if someone who has both the new drummer and the Royal Guard could test whether it's possible to do this (i.e. are the pegs and holes the same size?). A picture of said substitution would also leave me eternally in your debt.

Thanks

The royal chest piece is red with a black crest. While I'm 99.9% certain it will fit, I think it will look pretty bad and out of place. You'd be better just to buy regular stormtroopers. They at least come with a gun. The drummers only have a sword and the section at the front (hidden by the drum) to hold the drum sticks while not in use will look strange. And there's the conch holder to consider. If you're looking for flexibility of roles, this isn't the trooper you are looking for.

Regarding the aesthetic and correlation to Star Wars characters, I don't see these as Star Wars gone feudal, but as Japanese feudal gone star wars so the lack of a direct comparison doesn't bother me. In fact the diversity makes it more exciting and the drummers look fantastic. imho of course.

Oh, and welcome. :wave

I agree. I like that they went this direction with the stormtroopers and are filling in the ranks wih different types of soldiers.

I'm Canadian too and the prices are definitely up there to import these figures so I understand your qualms. This is by far my favourite line out of all the ones I collect so I'm going completionist with this one and going with at least one of each. Including that Celebration/SDCC Sandtrooper exclusive where literally the only difference is a black pauldron.

In terms of regular stormtroopers, well I'm actually thinking ahead to future purchases here... notice the possible future archer and yari spearman releases both have white emblems in the same place. I'm wondering if those emblems might be removable and swapable as well. How does the drummer relate to this? Well if one wanted a regular stormtrooper without the fancy hat that comes with the archer and spearman, then one could swap their chest emblems to the drummer, or use a spare loose royal guard emblem if you display your royal guard with the cloak on the front.

I'm just curious how standardized the modular parts are in this series. If they're smart, they're already thinking ahead and making them interchangeable.

Well the archer and spearman do both have crests and if they are removable it is likely they would fit. But I'm still struggling to see the point. If you don't like the drummer because he's not relatable to the canon, surely a red chested stormtrooper would be just as wrong? So then you are buying a whole figure just to have a different helmet option? That would leave a whole body incomplete in a box (missing a chest emblem) whereas buying a storm trooper displays that whole body...

And the figures do mix and match. I prefer the V1 Vader helmet and body but prefer the V2 Vader mechanical arm and weapons. So I've made my own frankenstein Vader.

That's a good idea with the Vader customization. I actually like both so they are all on display.

I just got my Royal Guard today and I'm very happy with it. The shade of red they chose is fine with me. If the girlfriend doesn't protest, I think I'll pick up another if I see it in Hong Kong or Tokyo when I visit next month.

Hopefully some more pictures, announcements, etc at Star Wars Celebration this month. Fingers crossed for an Oni Darth Maul. (Maybe if I keep on asking for it, the action figure gods will bless me with one lol)

I like the archer so I would think about that. One that I would really like is an AT AT driver as a cavalry officer. Most of the armor on the legs and arms could be the same and the chest and helmet would be new.

Oh and the black shadowtrooper should be obvious.

Oh man, I'm gonna need a bigger display area.

Its a bit dark. I missed the best sun for photos.

I've been looking at these since I bumped into (what I realise now must have been a bootleg) on taoboa/alibaba.

The legit ones are in my local store still (for legit prices too.)
But I sooooo am making shelf space for this line. They are all so gorgeous and the pics in this thread have convinced me.

Raiyuri, can you use SIC Gaim's "shoulder pads" on the star wars figures? From some pictures I saw, seems like the connector is very similar.

thanks!

Sorry for the late reply. Yes you can swap the shoulder armors. Also tried the Royal Guard emblem on the Taiko trooper, the red pops out and I'm starting to like it. Lol.

Awesome photos as always Zergouki!:D

Thanks for the pic, RC. Yeah, I was sure the Red would look weird but it looks actually pretty cool. Thanks!
