Here are a couple of pictures that I took with different outfit/body combinations. The last picture is showing a size comparison that I did between Rocco's Lazenby and an old sideshow Connery. Lazenby is actually bigger which is very unfortunate.

I can understand why Rocco decided to go bigger as the first couple of Bond sculpts were said to be on the slightly small size, but I do feel that this new size is too large. Of course this is just my opinion and others may feel differently.

So, I just discovered that Dynamite is doing a Bond comic book series. Anybody read it? Is it worth picking up?

I bought the first issue and was underwhelmed for its shortness that cost $4. Supposedly they will compile the stories in a single volume so I'll check those out. In their first announcements, Dynamite said they will do "Fleming's Bond," but I don't remember if those will be adaptations of the original novels/short stories, or if they will be original stories set in the 50s and 60s. I was underwhelmed too with the series of Bond comics put out by Dark Horse, but IMO those are even better...though compared with only that premier issue of Dynamite Comics.

I think a good Bond comic series should truly capture the essence of literary Bond and his world, but otherwise, a modern story should at least equal the coolness of the movies if a comic were to make a departure from Fleming where I think "modern" adaptations including Dark Horse, fell short. I recommend the Titan Books reprints of the Daily Express comic strips based on the Fleming books that were originally published in the 60s and 70s, especially the earlier ones drawn by John McLusky; the drawback with those is that they are not colored and can seem dated by modern comics standards, except the later ones that were drawn by Yaroslav Horak who did some Fleming stories (also not colored) as well as new, original stories.

I also recommend the trilogy of Mike Grell's "Permission to Die," which were published I think in the late 80's or early 90s, which are the best "modern" Bond story comics I've seen so far; the 1st issue is really cool in itself and a "must have" because the 2 follow-up issues were not as good. The Mike Grell comics did a great job of incorporating aspects of both the Fleming stories (such as Bond resembling Hoagy Carmichael as described in the books) and the early movies, esp. in how he drives the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger and how he managed to make Bond resemble Connery in some angles (while still looking like Hoagy Carmichael!)

IMO, unless someone comes out with a Lazenby sculpt that's at least at a Hot Toys level, the old Sideshow Lazenby is still the best out there. Here's my 3rd Lazenby custom using the Sideshow body as its base, which has a lot of repaint potential for those inclined (mine has the original paint app, except for the black wash I added to the mouth):

Hold on a second. You think Hot Toys has anyone working for them that produces sculpts anywhere close to the level of the custom sculptors offering their sculpts here on the forum? OMG, funniest post all day. HT nails a likeness as often as I nail a supermodel.

And if we're going to move on to paint, sorry, but HT's factory paint doesn't hold a candle to the best available from the guys here on the forum. You pay for it, obviously, but there's no comparison.

I didn't say anything about the original paint app being better, did I? I also didn't say that "the best available from the guys here on the forum" were not as good as Hot Toys, so please read carefully. As far as Lazenby, in my opinion I haven't seen a custom sculpt that surpassed the Sideshow sculpt, the only one that's commercially available. Custom sculpts are not necessarily better than HT's production sculpts, BTW. I mentioned HT because as far as many are concerned they are the current standard in capturing likeness, so some have been a miss, but you seem to be saying that any HT sculpt is automatically bad. Oh, btw, how does it feel getting shamed on the Han Solo thread, where you got loads of your own medicine shoved down your throat, among other biological things you gurgle in there?

No idea, I don't read the Solo thread or generally any thread where the majority of people posting have their heads up their asses. HT is generally a fail on likeness. It's the odd sculpt that comes out looking like the actor. Lazenby may be large but you can't compare it to the Sideshow sculpt with a straight face and say you're not trolling.

Seriously, I don't really care what anyone else thinks about HT as most other people don't have any taste and certainly don't have an eye for likeness. Maybe you need to wait for HT to jump on the Bond license.

HT are the "standard" for people who aren't serious about 1/6 - they're the mass-market go-to I suppose.

Sideshow has has some awesome sculpts which are also far better than newer HT sculpts, but their Lazenby isn't necessarily one of them. It's extremely soft and while an amazing paint job can be put on it, it's rather like painting a blank (and flat) canvas at that point.

If you came here to do something other than insult the talented artists that cater to this hobby and frequent this forum, then that's cool, let's see more photos. Your opening remark however was complete and utter BS.

I've been reading it. Its pretty good.
Warran Ellis one of the best writers in comics and its nice to see a Bond comic using a good writer and artist.
It does feel too short though. I think next issue is the last one, would have liked to see it go longer. Bond looks like Fleming's Bond but it feels way more as a visual action thriller like Craig's Bond movies.

Worth checking out the collected edition which will be out soon enough.

I really hope you are trolling there. The level of refinement doesn't even touch the level that goes into a hot toys sculpt. All I see is sculpts that are too big or too small and with odd proportions.

I guess you need to stop looking at pictures and hold some sculpts in your hands. I'm not saying there haven't been some incorrect sizes made nor that there haven't been casting issues with some sculpts and I certainly didn't say every single custom sculpt is equally good.

For me, many HT sculpts are simply too generic and stylized, not befitting of the high end of this hobby. They haven't had any significant progression in production quality in the past 4 years and certainly have done nothing to improve their accuracy/likeness game. If you'd like something better, it's always readily available if you want to pay for it.

There's an old internet adage about the mentioning of Hitler in a forum thread should the discussion run long enough - some believe that signals the end of the topic. I feel that way about Hot Toys making its way into a discussion primarily surrounding custom projects as if it's some trump card.

I'm very happy with Rocco's lazenby and Dalton. About all I could want for those two.

Still very happy with BBkills skyfall Craig and inigious Brosnan. Hair and all I think his hair is great as is.

Definitely still not satisfied with the Moore in my life... I am eagerly awaiting the Rocco 2.0 and another artists take on it... Moore always seems to be the one that gets the shaft in my collection.

On the above I really love the kilt look for lazenby. I'm trying to figure out how to dress mine.. It's a bit specific but it's a fun look and I might try that actually. What's the recipe for that look?

I Raymond, glad you liked it!

Here’s the recipe:

• Hasbro Hall of Fame legs from the 90s
• Doll socks for the hose (had to re-sew the seams to tighten the socks). The hose flash are scratchbuilt from red thread and red ribbon.
• Modified brogues from eBay (cut opening at top and added thin straps and buckles),
• Kilt-several choices here, mine were from Cotswold that they made a few years back for their own Black Watch figure, but Black Watch kilts are available from Sideshow’s Bayonets and Barbed Wire Blackwatch figure, DiD’s Black Watch Angus figure, Palitoy Action Man’s Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (both original figure and 40th Anniversary reissue)
• Black vest came from Medicom RAH Pierce Brosnan Bond, but any low buttoned black vest will do.
• Generic white dress shirt.
• Prince Charlie jacket was from Sideshow’s Phantom of the Opera, with the tails removed, shortened and sewn back on.
• Silver diamond “buttons” on the jacket were 2 sizes of iron on studs from Etsy
• Neck jabot, scratchbuilt from lace material from Joan Fabrics
• Sporran, totally scratch built, but I want to redo the half-circle “mouth” that I casted in pewter.

After doing all that, I got lazy to do a repaint but don’t really mind in appreciation of the unprecedented number of character offerings of their Bond line.

...or, Hot Toys has just dominated the industry and set the standard on so many levels, whether it's mass-produced or custom figures, in terms of availability, affordability and just in a plain dollar-to-value ratio. So you shouldn't wonder why HT gets mentioned as often as it does, not because people use it as a trump card to win arguments...they're just that good and it's inescapable to not mention them.

As for the likeness of HT sculpts missing the mark, sure, there's some of that from time to time but if overall that happened more frequently and buyers on a wide scale correspondingly felt that way, Hot Toys wouldn't have lasted 5 years in this industry even if they had started selling their sets at the $50 price point (on par with deluxe Hasbro figure sets at the time), let alone the $240 plus today that hordes of willing fans are willing to shell out multiple times per year. No offense to whoever sculpted your Han Solo, but if that became the basis for a mass-produced $240 figure set, you'd see those same sets 3 months later at liquidation prices at Big Lots. So, it boils down most esp. in your case, "to each his own," but don't ignore what the market says and don't ridicule people for not seeing things your way.
