in my defense, I expected a much more elaborate base. Anyone have ketchup? : )

The regular headsculpt is jawdropping good. I may just stick with it, especially if SS decides to offer her up in other colours down the road. I can't see too many people choosing the exclusive portrait for a dark phoenix.

I hate the silver base and am underwhelmed by the phoenix. I had hoped for much more in that regard.

The Silver bottom rim is basically just a danger room tie-in. They seem to be doing them on all the X-men now, which is fine with me. It's small and ties in the characters without a huge gaudy red X on a black plain base.

The Phoenix is subtle, and doesn't over power the main sculpt, which is what you want. Your attention should be on the character, not a huge overpowering base. That should be secondary, and if done right, should add to the overall piece, not clash with it. I think this piece got it right with the subtlety but the base doesn't really add anything or have any finer details you can look at upon closer inspection, so there is a criticism.

If I were an X-men fan I'd probably find it hard to resist. And I can already see certain custom head sculpt makers doing another head for this one.

Flip I think you should jump on it. Worse case scenario you miss out on Will's beautiful EX portrait and eat a potential price increase on the normal Phoenix down the line if SS does it. You can sell the EX at cost at the least to help cover the normal one if/when SS releases it.

I honestly don't care for the EX portrait. I would never display it. Love the REG portrait much more. However, it's the green Phoenix that is a MUST for me. I love the Byrne/Claremont run on the X-MEN and the Dark Phoenix storyline is among my most favorite but DP is more of a villainous force and I much prefer the green Phoenix to Dark Phoenix. Space is at a premium and I have to make some tough calls. There's a real strong possibility this PF won't make the cut.

I have the modern Thor, Wolverine, Sabretooth, and Darkseid PFs all on PO. I still have to add Aquaman to my PO list down the line and I have my 1st 1/3 piece on PO (Prime 1 Deathstroke). That's a lot of $$$ and room getting eaten up. That's why it's so hard to pull the trigger on DP when I REALLY just want to add a green Phoenix to my collection.

Igo just confirmed on the other board that they had variants planned, but they were not approved. Now THAT is official, up to now it was just talks (and this also confirms that they have indeed tried to do variants btw). Best bet is to pick this up and repaint it, at this point. If it's just a plain switch from red to green it shouldn't be all that expensive

There's no way they won't do a green version(they'll probably do a white too) later on. This looks really good, I'm glad they got input from a fan(great job blackqueen) and hope they continue to in the future. The base is nothing special but it's way better than an X for sure, and like others mentioned the grey bottom piece is not appealing. The face and hair sculpts look amazing, better than XM's but the base of that one puts it over the edge. It'd really be more fitting if SS's was green and XM's was Dark Phoenix lol. It's their best X-men statue to date if the factories can get it close to prototype.

I am quite disappointed the white and green got nixed. It would have been awesome to have all 3.

If I have to go that route, I'll probably just pick up the XM Phoenix in the aftermarket. Prices on her have been dropping and if I get the DP PF and have her repainted, I'll basically be out the same amount of $$$$.

I agree with this... I think some companies go a bit overboard with their Bases to the point that you lose site of the character... I can see why some would like it but I personally am not a fan of that.

Having said that I am not a huge fan of the silver bowl look but I think the Phoenix itself looks good. No Bowl would be better IMO but it does not take anything away from the overall look of the piece.

Does anyone think the base might have a light-up feature? The light in some of the pictures got me wondering. Though that might probably just be something they did during the photo shoot.

Good God!! :thud: SS has been hitting it out of the park with the ladies lately. I'm all in for one too!

She is a really nice looking piece but I don't know if I have the real estate for a 3rd Jean. I'll get her if I can reason a logical display area for her

No, Alex just said there is no plans for one right now. Doesn't mean there isn't a possibility of a green variant later. Think green Ivy or Sabretooth. Those are variants that came along later and weren't planned. This one's just screaming for one. To be honest, I'd rather have an all new green Phoenix sculpt but who knows when they'd get around to that?

Nixing green and white is mind boggling. SS has never been coy about producing variants in the past--Storm, Poison Ivy, Sinestro, Elektra, Black Widow. If there is one character that pretty much cries out for at least one variant (green) it's Phoenix. I can't imagine SS simply walking away from a green version which would essentially be money in the bank, and a 300-ES white variant would be an instant sell-though. I highly doubt they would spend the time and money developing an all new sculpt or sculpts. It's possible that Marvel is actually the one putting the brakes on any X variants. They may have allowed SS to produce one Phoenix and since XM was already in the market with green, Dark became the default. If that's the case the only way we might see the other versions in the future, or more X-Men for that matter, is if relations between Marvel/Disney and Fox thaw. So I might end up buying an extra or two to have modded in the aftermarket. Of course as soon as I ended up spending a boatload, SS would probably announce the variant.

The explanation for no variants would definitely seem to point to no more X characters at all.
