Avengers Detention Cell - Custom Project

I am designing a Detention Center for my Avengers Villains Shelf which is part of my large Stark Mansion Dioram.

I'm going to use the display bases that come with the HPP Armors

They look like this one:





I'm going to use 2 bases per cell, one on the floor and one on the ceiling. Then I am going to string blue EL wire vertically to create "bars"


This thread may get a little involved so I will post the process and progress in this thread and the end result in my Custom HOA thread.

A fellow collector and I did some trading and now I'll have enough of these to build my display.

I bought 15m of blue EL wire for the bars and I have 12v LED panels to illuminate the bases.

I'm going to start modifying the bases this week end.

I wired up the base and top panels for this display.

I’m using a single 12vdc 1 amp power supply to run them all in parallel

I’m still waiting on the EL wire and I have to find a 6.5” hole saw to make the holes in the cabinet so these don’t look so thick

I received my first villain and did a preliminary set up for the detention cells.

This was just to check the spacing and overall look, I can’t build the new cabinet until I have some more of the villains I have on the way

I have enough villains for the detention center and I’m pretty sure an Ultron Sentry will be close to the size of the Chituari Commander so now I can finish this

Despite all of the rain we had last week I was able to get the main boards cut for this project.

I created full page labels in Corel Draw and used them to locate the centers of the 7 holes required for each bay.

Once the labels were applied to the back of the top board I stapled them to a sacrificial support board otherwise the 6 1/2” hole saw would have shredded the 1/4 plywood that I am using for this part.

Everything went well and the hardest part was finding a 6 1/2” hole saw, 99% of the companies that make them, skip that size. I eventually found one and even got it at the discount price of $55 shipped.

The holes are tight enough that I will not get any light leakage and I will not need much glue to secure bases that will be mounted in them.

I finished the detention center but while I was testing the el wire the inverter burnt up

I have a replacement on order.


This picture is taken at floor level so you can see both light pads, but it makes it look like there is too much space above the figures. When you are standing there it looks better but you can not see the light coming from the top pads.

I know it's cruel

When I first thought about doing this I was going to use a full height rod between the pads and use a figure clamp to hold the figure in the middle of the rod, as if he was suspended between the 2 pads.


But when I set the figures in the display and stood back and looked at them, the perspective suggested that they would look to close to the top.

I might try it once I have 4 villains for the display.

Yes, all of the blue "bars" light up. I used a single 15 meter EL wire and it is weaved in and out to create the them. Once I get the new inverter I will use tapered shims to "tighten" them so they are all straight.

I received a new power pack and got the EL wire working. Now I need to just tighten up a few of the bars and this will be good to go
