I was at the Ikea Burbank earlier and I spoke to a representative and they said that the new Glassvik will fit on the old besta frames

Both the black/brown and the white are changing. The New black/brown is going to be darker and the new white will be lighter. If you put the old and new ones next to each other there will be a noticable difference.

1. BESTA old is going away in April. Considering how many frames have been dumped on us by suppliers, most stores will have frames way past 4/1 (unless you were looking for medium brown, that color is pretty much gone)

I am mixed about this. I have mostly Espresso and super-dark brown woods. Having Bestas that all look solid black may clash. But this is awesome for my home office! All of that furniture is black.

2. The new BESTA frames are just that... frames only. They don't come with shelves anymore, but you will be able to purchase them in 3 colors + glass.

I take it the frames w/o shelves cost the same as the ones that used to come with 3? Meaning, now we pay for the frames and then for each of the 3 shelves. Probably won't be much of a difference for us, but man will it add up for them.

5. GLASSVIK is not going anywhere (same 4 options as you have now), VASSBO (reg & glass) are also sticking around, and TOFTA is staying, although there will no longer be a TOFTA glass option. Some of the doors are changing names though.

6. The door sizes are now limited to 15" and 25". No more 50" or 75" doors.

Why the heck can't they make 50" and 75" doors? As least solid ones. Then I could cut out the middle and rig them with acrylic.

7. The BESTA line is now coming in a new color called grey-stained walnut effect, which should be very similar to the grey-brown you see on other pieces.

I will be looking up existing items with this motif. I am eyeballing an office desk set that is called "Urban Walnet" that I really like. It may go with or replace my black furniture, and this opens up some interesting combination possibilities.

They won't be black. IKEA has a lot of Black-brown items in their entire range and that black-brown isn't precisely the same from line to line. I take what yellowstoreguy said to mean they will be darker, but still recognizable as black-brown. There's no way IKEA would go plain/solid black on this line.

Seriously doubt that too. You should probably expect the prices to come down to where Stuva are. IKEA is known for product-line streamlining and price reductions. If you only need 1 or 2 shelves, you should end up saving versus the old SKU with 3 or 4 as part of the package.

Product line and inventory streamlining. Besides if you're going to do to that trouble, it is easier and more cost effective to build your own door frames either from scratch or using door frame kits. Use glass instead of acrylic for more savings.

Have they switched out the colors yet and is there any chance of a sale for their old colors? I need to pick up 3 pieces before they switch the whites, so I'm debating if I should go ASAP or not.

Check the stock supply at your local store and then decide whether to grab them now (low qty) or wait for the markdown (large qty).

Just got back from Ikea picking up the rest of the white Bestas I'm going to need. I was going to wait for a sale but I just don't know if I'd have the free time to drive all the way down there within the next couple of weeks/months. Didn't want to miss out on them for good.

Same. They went down to $5 at my store so I ended up returning and exchanging. Felt like a cheapskate afterwards though, lol, to buy one week and then replace the next all for a measly $30, haha.
