I think the HT version needs a more bulbous nose. The nose on the HT just seems too thin.

yea there is always room for improvement. the nose and the color of the hair are the only things i really see wrong with it. i hoping for an exclusive with a 2nd head and passably a Marksman-H combat remote for Luke and a Battle cry to scare off sand people lol :rotfl

Looks good, better than the first pics. I will probably order this one. Still holding off on Vader. He looks huge in the side by side picture. I will wait of the ROTJ version if it is ever released.

Its HT... you know they will. he will be the new iron man! :p haha god i hope not. i bet they will eventually make ROTJ tho

Hope they do him in translucent blue plastic as ghost obiwan... and then make jar jar binks. But I'm sure people will complain that binks head sculpt won't be screen accurate and far too stylized too. :p

I like it. It's stylised for sure, but it has a beauty about it IMO. Will look amazing on display.

The repainted sideshow head
has a better likeness but doesn't look like a real person, looks like a characture.
The HT doesn't capture Alec 100% but it looks like a real person.

Lose, lose or win, win. I shall be happily adding him to my Star Wars line-up. :rock

It's quite simple. HT's version looks like a representation of Alec, while SSC's actually looks like him. Give the Sideshow one a HT paint job, and it would be absolutely perfect.

It does seem that they followed old obi wan on some damned fool idealistic crusade on beautifying him and neither of the live pics do it for me... But the prototype pictures I do like. I have a josh small painted sideshow grove head. It's good, great even but this is better. I'm very happy

I'm not confusing anything. I've seen a lot of great repaints of the SS head and it doesn't hold a candle to this head sculpt. Is this one perfect? No. But if you laid both sculpts down on the table I would NEVER choose the SS repaint. That's what it's all about to me. I could care less if people think that "Oh I see more likeness" in a sculpt. What does that matter? Do you want the better head sculpt or the better likeness?

That's exactly the point that has been made. You're talking about people needing their eyes checked (that old chestnut) for thinking the SSC is 'better'. Well maybe they simply prefer a sculpt that, while not being as detailed or well textured as the HT version, better captures Obi Wan's character. I've already said I prefer the HT head for my shelf, but it's clear to me why many prefer Trevor's (repainted) sculpt.

Repaints are EXPENSIVE, people. Has anyone with an unmodded SSC Ben actually enquired about getting it repainted by one of the top guys (silentsurfer etc.)? When you find out the price - and the wait time (IF they are even accepting commissions) - the color will drain from your face and you will either hug your existing SSC figure or immediately PO the HT Ben. It will also save you having to buy a new TT body (to replace the wonky old SSC body) and hands. I had planned to do this.

This idle talk of "just get a repaint" as if it's some easy/cheap option needs to stop. To me, Ben is a figure that NEEDS a top guy to repaint it because the headsculpt is 70% of the presentation of the figure (like ANH Leia - not a lot else to draw the eye.) And to me, unmodded, the SSC Ben just doesn't cut it for the current era - it's noticeably oversized, the paint is quite poor/outdated and the sculpt is very lacking in detail.

This just popped up on my FB feed. I've never heard of the company but possible price and release date?

Yeah, brilliant post, the man speaks truth - repaints are a TOTAL pain in the ass and basically any time I've paid someone to do one I've never been happy. It costs, it takes time, and if the sculpt doesn't match the artist's ability then it just won't look right, not to mention people sometimes disappear with your money...

I'll never forget the repaint I ordered of a Sideshow James Bond head by a superb artist, when it came back to me the skin tone and eyes were perfect, it's just that he'd done the eyes looking up and basically the character looked like it had trapped its pecker in its zip and was fainting in pain, which is not the look you want for a Sean Connery head.

That HT Obi-wan is waaay better than that "now crap" Sideshow Obi-wan....there really is no debate here unless your blind

Unfortunately this is true. I can only afford master repaints for personal grail figures.

The SS sculpt is a far better likeness under that horrid paint, but the HT one will be fine for basic display viewing which includes: the morning check, the evening walk-by and the occasional weekend moment of admiration.

I can't argue with on repaints being expensive, but if the character means that much to you it's worth it. But if you can find an Old Ben on the cheap like I did than it won't be as bad. I mean you can get an excellent paint job done for $80, and one that's ultra realistic for $150. As far as being oversized, it's not all that. Mine fits in well with all my other figures just fine. He ain't no Leia that's for sure. :lol Paint can take care of texture- there is no discernible difference between my Obi and my HT Luke. One thing I'm totally with you on- an unmodified Obi doesn't cut it. :lol

Grabbed small_studios repaint just for quick compare.

I still think the Sideshow looks closer to my eyes -- granted a bit of caricature there and a bit surprised looking.

The likeness is undoubtedly off. But the SS one, even with a top repaint looks like a characture of a human rather than an actual human being.

When I have Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Vader, the Droids, Stormtroopers, etc., all displayed together I know that Ben won't be the focal point of the display. The HT version won't call attention to itself as being of lesser overall quality than the others which is more important to me than a cheaper "toy" with a better likeness among other premium 12 inch figures.

If the likeness was downright horrid on HT that'd be one thing, but looking at the SSC vs. HT comparison you just posted I totally think that HT even has the better sculpt regardless.

Yeah, I'm with you on that.
