Yes, sorry I was responding to issues people were having about the scanner and para scope not staying up......I figured out mine and made a really fast...poor quality utube video about it....

Hopefully it's helpful to some.....

Working with R2s hatches - YouTube

That's a very helpful video, thanks.... but it does show what a pain in the ass it is to get at in the first place. :lol

I guess the pole is longer than I thought and wider at the bottom, which needs to be threaded through the hole at the bottom. I was probably pulling and pulling but not threading the larger end through, if that makes sense.

People need to watch this first.

Guess what I will never be doing with my R2? That's right... I will not open any door, hatch, latch, etc.

I like my R2 all closed up... that is how I will display it, so I am not messing with anything... even to check if all pieces are inside him.

Hey, what's with all the whining about this figure? High-end figures are fragile, don't-cha-know. :wink1:

I'm not trying to dredge up your whole post, but you do seem surprised that people took issue with aspects of it, these comments below are what came off as grating to me and are a bit humorous given that you are considering possibly purchasing R2 again. But maybe your prose just swings more toward hyperbole. :dunno

All your info on it being fragile and spring loaded was helpful as it seems people are having similar experiences with R2.

...it's a waste of money...

This is a figure to run from. I bought it, even though I know how bad Sideshow stuff is...

The thing feels in your hand like plastic crap...

...this is the figure that has taught me never, ever to buy Sideshow again.

Great video! When you were reefing on it and said "I hope I didn't get this thing jammed in there" I almost expected your hand to slip and then suddenly have the Leia recording turn on. :lol

Received mine today, no problems but the long left panel popped off when I opened it too wide, so be careful of the panels. My life scanner will not stay up if bumped, so it is lose like the others. No other issues though. I have now officially taken the road to the dark side of collecting the OT 1/6 figures.

Got R2 in, and overall I'm very happy with him. It as good to know ahead of time that the compartments were a bit easy to open, so at least that wasn't a surprise. Everything on mine looks good, only nit so far I noticed a small chip on the corner of one of the body compartments (very small, but still there) and the opening hatches on top of his head are not 100% flush. It's not way off, but still a noticeable difference compared to the non-opening ones.

I'm putting together a more thorough review, but suffice to say I think he's the best R2 we've gotten so far and I don't think anyone will top him w/o charging a lot more.

Check out my video in the post above...it might help you with keeping the scanner up.

I'm still too scared to tug too hard on R2's sensors, so I'll just leave them inside the compartments. Thanks for doing the video, though. Repped!

Nope. I much prefer trench runs. :lecture

I finally get R2 and what happens.... that SOB Jabba put him to work right away... geesh.

I have to agree with the others in that his "feet" are very loose and the compartment doors are floppy but I don't care... this little guy KICKS BUTT. I think the Jawa was a little excited by Leia... he couldn't stop staring at her. :)

Thanks for the video - will rewatch when mine arrives tomorrow.

It seems maybe SSC was too ambitious in trying to make everything practical and weren't able to pull it off. They probably should have just stuck to a couple of attachments arms/poles and made them separate insert pieces rather than trying to make them anchored/functional from within the figure.

The fact of the matter is, 90% of people just wanted an R2 to display, with lights and sounds being the only really essential "extras" - not one with every opening hatch practical and every pole or arm included and functional. It just seems like this thing has more opening hatches than an advent calendar and the features they've included just don't stay in place or work well enough to use with any regularity. Seems a real waste if people just go "too much of a pain" and never touch them again.

I think I'd rather have had none of those items and have the dome be real metal and include sounds and more lights settings (like a few different light display settings) and have the focus being on quality articulation of the legs/feet and dome.

All this being said, it's quite a deal for the price, especially if the SSC coupon was used.
