"Co-writer Brenden Fletcher added their take incorporates "mixes the best elements of 'Veronica Mars' and 'Girls,' with a dash of 'Sherlock' thrown in for good measure."
She's leaving it all behind her. We really wanted to make this a book with a light tone, of fun and adventure and mystery, and let the rest of the Bat-family deal with the darkness. She's got problems, and conflict, and enemies to fight, but our priority was to make this a really fun, rollicking read."

"Girls" really! :yuck

And the loser over at Marvel had this to say:

When editor Nick Lowe took over the Spider-Man titles in February, the changes to Jessica Drew’s look were one of his top priorities. From USA Today:

"As much as I'm a fan of spandex and it has its time and place, I felt Jess as a character could move away from that for a good long while...frankly I don't love the classic [costume]."

FU Nick!

Don't worry, they'll realize their mistake when sales fall through the floor. It's like they honestly think if they're portrayed like this, millions of female teenagers will pour out of the woodwork to buy the issues. Like they think all of these girls go into comic shops every single day but just don't buy anything because they haven't had anything like the above characters before. All of the female comic lovers that I know like the classics. They're not yearning for this. The new geek chic crowd just talks about how much they love these characters, they don't actually read the material.

meh and some pfff,

things change. so wut they modernize the costume. Mr. Green am sure they're trying to gain more audience as well. long live tha new 52!

screw that--Spider-Woman's costume is instantly recognizable and sexy as hell. It's one of the better female costume designs, IMO. Might as well just Bryan Singer everyone and throw them in bland black costumes with a colored stripe. DUMB.

The new geek chic crowd isn't crazy about Thor or Captain America or Iron Man. They are crazy about Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and RD

BG's new outfit doesn't that look bad when she has her curves back in and looks like a women.

But The fact that she now looks and acts like she's 15 and in high school is what's so depressing!

:goodpost:

Comics are about fantasy, not practicality. They've totally stripped her of her sensuality. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this...

Nice Jessica Drew capture. To bad SS had to f up her PF. That was the best booty I seen yet on a statue

The problem with the new 52 seems to be that there's change for the sake of change. Not because anyone had any particularly good ideas, just so that they could do something different.

Edit: That's not to say that all of the New 52 is bad, some of the stories have been decent. Aquaman, Capullo/Snyder Batman, Swamp Thing, etc.

lets put it this way:

the comic genre in movies theater are so successful that the comics basically play catch up or be like outdated. new 52 is the catch up. with the exception of hulk and maybe a few others, most chars's costume are updated to be more modernize.

also, its like the fall or slowing of newspaper print. most people now a days have access to the internet. you get news feed possibly 2 or more a day. so comics, in similiar fashion, evolve into digital comics and movies. the traditional printed comics must also evolve to mimics that of its theater movie version or be outdated.

we can carry on criticizing it but new 52 been selling for months now. its not going away.

Lets not forget, movies come FROM comics, not the other way around. And DC has done a horrible job (imho) of maintaining that continuity. They also change the uniforms/costumes because some of the comics suits don't adapt well on camera. Really has nothing to with evolution per se'. What they do change for the sake of change and affirmative action is the character gender or race. Ridiculous. Create a new character, don't change the original (Perry White, Barry Allen, Deadshot, etc)
