Im hearing a lot of complaints on this MOS PF.. people are calling for the return of it. What do you guys think about this?

I think a couple issues:

1. General superman collectors have their own issues with this piece. I have no comment there, since I'm not one of them.

2. I personally loved the movie, and wanted this because of that. Is his likeness perfect? No. But it's pretty darn good.

3. The suit is phenomenal. It's actually interesting that when something is well done, there are far fewer accolades as compared to complaints when something is done poorly.

4. The statue is light in weight. I don't care... I don't pick up my display statues.

5. Did I mention the suit is amazing? :)

Seriously though... could the paint on the face be better? Sure, if you want to pay custom prices. I think it looks great (no googly eyes, etc) as is.

Hows the paint apps on the face? Does it look realistic or cartoonish?

Think about what you are asking... Does this miniature head look exactly like a shrunken version on Henry's head? Probably not. Does it look like MOS from the movie.... yes.

I'll add my 5 cents.

I'm a Superman fan and a comic and figure collector.

I really couldn't care less what other collectors think. I earned the money and paid for the piece. It is displayed in my home and I am very happy with it. What I do with it and how I feel about it is my business.

More than any of the above, this piece is symbolic. Anybody who has read my posts in the past will know that my six year old son is sick. I'm not particularly religious or superstitious but Superman has become a symbol of hope in our fight against cancer since the day he was diagnosed and a close friend texted me an image of a weary Alex Ross Superman and the Reeve quote concerning hope.
From HT figures to Ss PFs to the signed, personalised photo from Cavill to my boy. Even in May this year when he underwent a major brain operation, a great number of people in my hometown changed their social media avatars to Superman in support of my little boy.

I got caught up in the plastic row, had thought about cancelling but didn't due to the financial penalties and was unhappy with the way Ss played their hand but I am more than happy with the finished figure.

Even if I hadn't been, upon returning from hospital yesterday my boy shouted "Wow he is so cool!" upon seeing it and thrust his arm above his head in a Superman flying gesture.

How could I return it now?

well said. As long as he speaks to you and your son that's all that matters. He belongs in your collection. Too many of us get caught up in group think. It would be boring if we all had the same collections.

The paint. It looks like its painted on stone. I was expecting it to look more realistic like you would get on a hot toys/enterbay figure.

It looks like any Sideshow PF - aside from the weight you can't tell the difference. The look HT gets on PVC is all in how the paint is applied - not the materials.

You never will... That sucker just became priceless.

It only looks like that because the paint job is the same quality paint job as most of Sideshow Human PF characters. If u have really good look at it you can tell it has a rubbery appearance, and if someone was to repaint this realistically they would be able to create the same realistic effect seen on EB's 1/4 sculpts. Although if PVC is not painted realistically it can give off a hard plastic toyish look, which might be why you think it looks hard like it was painted on stone.

I think it is a combination of both Dave, no matter how well polystone is painted it will never have that soft look PVC has. That is why Blitzway created their hybrid statues with PVC sculpts to achieve that skin realism soft look and polystone for the weight.

I think he looks good in these pics. Congrats to those who got him!

But you are passing on this because it is not polystone right?

I'll stop boring you with these, I'm just really happy...

And before anyone can't help themselves, yes, Sideshow wins/gets away with it again. I'm OK with that.

Well now you can say HT 1:4 Batman as statues too now. :wink1: With more switchout parts.

The bottom line with this statue is NOT whether it's a statue to keep or return BUT rather this question: "is this a pf statue that is worthy of charging $400 based on historical pricing of premium formats"? To put it another way, who here would have seriously paid $400+ cash tomorrow for a plastic item? Regardless of cut n sew. I mean, c'mon. Social media has been relentless and steadfast on SS about this game-changing move that it has forever changed the SS brand. Googling Sideshow will always pull this up. Fact.

Here's another way to look at it: If tomorrow's $400+ Grail came in PLASTIC, but a great cut-n-sew, is that okay OR would you finally start to consider Sideshow competitors? Any SS competitor paying attention will jump on this unique opportunity to win over collectors who have finally had enough.

Where I come from, we get fired on the job for horrific business decisions such as blind-siding core customers.

When I got into this hobby, by trial and error of items Ive ignorantly purchased, varied in material. From porcelain, pvc and polystone And over time I found my niche taste for polystone. I just never liked pvc, the texture, the weight. Most of all it made me feel like I had a toy, rather than something highly regarded from both collectors and non collectors alike. Sideshow is pushing the boundaries and seeing how far they can charge us with cheaper materials. Now using decals as well. There will be other competitors and Ill just be forced to go elsewhere.

I don't disagree with a word of this. When SS introduces a piece, they should follow the production line identifying potential issues and challenges, determine how to best address and solve these, and then, and only then, place the product on the board for pre-order announcing in clear terms what the end product will be. If it's true that only the use of PVC solves some issues encountered during the R&D period, fair enough. Let consumers know that and ask them to vote with their orders on whether the final product is worth the price asked. Anything else carries with it the sense (whether real or imagined) that the company is attempting to put one over on its loyal fans.

My only other point is that in the emotionality of the reception of this particular piece, there are those (comprised almost exclusively of those who done own it) that, materials aside, the piece is awful in every other way that matters as well. I realize that when we attempt to convey our impressions on something like this all we can really work in are subjectives, but I'd have to say, from a subjective, but first-hand perspective, that the piece is a clear win on everything but scale weight and the feeling that measure carries with it in the eyes of collectors. I'll be honest, I love it, but had I known on day one that it was going to be a much lighter material than my other PFs, chances are I would have had a much more difficult choice in hitting the PO button on this or casting my eyes over to the HT pieces, which I also like a lot. So, SS needs to address this going forward, period.

NOW... What do you think of that photo!
