This is what happens when you guys support bootleg products.

As they get more profit, they will eventually venture on other products as well.

Which, at the moment, I honestly have few to no problems with. As long as Datong distinguishes the difference between their product and Tamashii's, the language on the box being the obvious indicator, I don't feel they're doing anything wrong but simply catering supply to a demand.

Although, I do feel that this will become a more difficult task at re-selling.

Not just them, but uninformed consumers who didn't know/can't tell the difference.

I felt bad for this kid, he didn't even know about the official line.

In the comments someone asked him it was the 'official' one, he replied "I think so, I ordered it from a toy company" I sent the kid a link to a review of the official S.H figuarts one, and he removed his comments about it's authenticity afterwards.

I imagine most of their buyers are likely between them, the customizers who make money from repainting them, and quite possibly, the local Chinese that live near the markets that sell them as well.

This is truly a downside on bootlegs and I won't argue about that aspect.

Edited: Glad you informed him, Philosopher.

Looks like some other company is making an SS Goku knockoff. I wonder how it will do compared to Datong's Vegeta considering you can still get a legit Goku for around the same price as the knockoff.

That company would have made a lot of money* if they were somehow able to produce a Super Saiyan Goku with a smiling face.

Uh it's actually way simpler: this is what happens when demand is disproportionately higher then supply.

Tamashii can fix this quite easily, at least so it seems from the outside, but they refuse to do so, so it's THEIR fault this happens. I used to be as anti-bootleg as you can get, and I stilldon't like it, but Tamasbro refuses to answer demand. If you make a product that becomes this popular, yert you don't supply at the very least the fan favourites consistently and continually, this is what you're gonna get.

I agree with Sil.

Ive said before, I despise bootlegs as much as I do scammers, but when Tamashii refuses to reissue items purely based on some crappy excuse then I dont blame people for buying them.

I will however plead with folk to please not buy the Goku, he is still readily available officially. Vegeta in the other hand is no longer sold and both his forms are through the roof, so I see no harm in it.

I might even get regular Vegeta myself to make a namek version since I sold my last custom one.

Jep, what Big D said, aftermarket releases: pass. Current retail available release: ********. I personally consider something a scalper price when it exceeds double the retail value, but that's just a line I had to draw somewhere.

Whatever's not available for a descent price and tamashii either refuses to rerelease, or, almost worse, refuses to comment on whether they'll ever be rereleased, becomes fair game.

Which is actually not entirely out of line with where I stood months back on it. But Tamashii refusing to communicate clearly about it or, for that matter even reach any form of consistent decision on, has swayed me into a more simple principle: if you can't get it from the OG producer anymore for a non-scalper price, then it's fair game.

That said, I personally still loathe bootlegs, they aren't legit collectibles regardless of the situation, they are fakes, literally and figuratively, and am going to build up any discipline I can find to never buy one. But I also don't like to mix statues or whatever, so, more my own taste than anything else.

Honestly? Yeah. I agree with everyone about bootlegs and Tamashii. If it was bootlegs and a company like Good Smile Company, then I would dare not support them - Good Smile is really the king (or princess considering their schoolgirl love) of re-releases, because most of them like Zelda: Skyward Sword Link, and the Attack on Titan line were re-released due to fan demand AND even some of their exclusives are readily available from Good Smile themselves. Tamashii is screwing themselves over, no other way around it. They could make a lot more if they talked, but they don't. That's another advantage from Good Smile, their communication is great. That said, I have no preference when it comes to their products, but communications and fan love is Good Smile's forte.

However, because SSJ Goku is still readily available I agree there as well, no reason to go for his inferior bootleg. Unless he had extra parts like some of the Datong Vegeta but even then, I have my first re-release SSJ Goku.

If bootleg SS Goku comes with a smiley face, then sorry guys but that's an insta-buy for me :)

I don't mind a bootleg if its sole purpose is to provide cheaper alternatives and distinguishes themselves as a bootleg. Datong Saiyan Saga/Scouter Vegeta will provide many possibilities, many more potential displays come to mind just thinking about it. I'll be able to have normal Vegeta heads for future releases because I have a feeling that Tamashii won't produce any more. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Majin Vegeta will strictly be Majin Vegeta and nothing else, not even a regular Super Saiyan Vegeta head/face. So having an extra normal Vegeta head to put on a World Tournament/Buu Saga Vegeta body would be a great possibility.

I enjoy original accessories similar to Super Saiyan Trunks' head. I believe there were rumors of a Super Saiyan 2 Goku head, as well. I don't believe it does, but as crisis stated, if Super Saiyan Goku came with something original and new, like a smiling face, I would have instantly decided on purchasing it. But it doesn't so there's not much more from there.

i won the deal of the year :yess:

NICE!!!

Buy it now?

Yeah but it also had the Best Offer option, so I offered the dude $140 & he accepted! I couldn't believe it man, lol. The Buy-It-Now price was $160 which is still an incredible deal by itself

Hopefully SDCC Goku is next.. if I can find him for like $200 I'll be super-happy

btw great reviews there Nick, looking forward to the others :)

These guys have already been doing Myth Cloth for a long time without any slowing down. I doubt that they even needed SSj Vegeta to do well to continue copying more products. :/

Unfortunately, I can't wash my hands from this because I did get the datong SSj Vegeta.

honestly i hope they do a lot of bootlegs, because rapairs/replacements /mods.
that said i doubt it would bite into the original success

All Dragon Ball Z S.H. Figuarts, including the Datong Super Saiyan Vegeta.

Edited: I can't wait to see Broly in that picture.

I need to somehow come up with a way to get this effect...

Edited: Would anybody happen to know the poster that has the Can of Beams website? It'd be great to get his opinion on this.

I've been thinking about Perfect Cell's Kamehameha effect and I'm curious what others think.

Do you like it? What do you like about it? Do you not like it? What do you not like about it? What would your ideas be to change it to fit your ideal Kamehameha effect?
