Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

There is no way plausible that the design for those ships didn't make someone involved with the movie say "Hey, those look like a bunch of dicks!"

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I don't think that "no joke" rumor is true.

For starters, there were a couple jokes in MoS, then later, you can't have characters like Flash, Green Lantern and Shazam and NOT give them jokes, even Luthor is a wisecrack from time to time .

It's ok for Superman (to a certain degree) and Batman to have less jokes.

How is it gonna work? What if the writers create an opening for a joke or a humorous line or situation?.... Are they just gonna ignore them or scrap them?

If that's their "ridiculous-proof characters" strategy it's obvious it's gonna fail, people WILL make fun of ANYTHING.

I think this rumor is BS.

Its complete Bull I just re-watched the dark knight rises even for that serious movie had humor its not a drama but its not a comedy either . These people are so pathetic instead of focusing on the story the author is asking why there are no jokes in the movie. I don't know why the people that write these articles think that every movie has to modeled after Marvel they forget that The Dark Knight Trilogy made a tons of money.

Marvel movies are made for a younger demo graphic I remember when the Avengers came out it had some many kids in the theater, Dark knight Rise gets released and its considerably less hell that movie had an implied sex scene and characters are getting killed on screen. And by that same token I don't think DC movies can not make marvel money just based on the audience that is coming to watch it in the theater

The source is a long-time AintItCoolNews contributor with legit industry connections, so I suspect what he's reporting is true. And though the '90s retcon of Wally West's personality and Geoff Johns have changed this up a bit, none of those characters were known as being jokesters back in the day (Barry Allen was a straight laced cop; Hal Jordan was the often clueless defender of the status quo), though Captain Marvel was always pretty lighthearted, and the stories inherently absurd and goofy with one of his arch rivals being a psychic caterpillar.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Yeah, but both Flash and GL have had a bit of a smart ass attitude for a good 15 years at least now.

It's just that "no jokes" sounds so harsh.

I mean, I'm fine with DC not reaching cheap sitcom lines like Marvel does sometimes, but Flash, GL and Shazam have to be at least very lighthearted.

It's probably just the tone of the movie which we all know they are continuing with the same style they had in man of steel which was inherited from The Dark knight trilogy he is taking it to far besides who cares if there are no jokes hell I am watching the Dark knight returns animation and I am just drooling with excitement as to how they can take those fight scenes between Batman and superman and transfer it in the big screen I am just hoping they tone down the CGI I go to the movie to be entertained and I don't care what liberties they take with the characters so long as the end result is a fantastic story

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I think it's a knee-jerk reaction to go the opposite of how Green Lantern turned out. DC is probably going for a more serious feel to their movies. Superhero drama instead of a comic book popcorn flick. The problem is that Green Lantern could have been an amazing movie if DC hadn't done damn near every single part of it wrong. I imagine they'll still throw in a few funny bits here and there, no matter what they say.

Shazam maybe because the story can lend itself to that but I don't see them doing that with the Flash or GL one might talk a lot of smack and the other will be cocky but I don't think we can expect Batman brooding or the other extreme Star Lord shenanigans.

To be the best representation of what you can expect is DC's current animation movies including Flash Point, Justice League War , Batman and Robin and the Upcoming Throne of Atlantis. More then likely the movies will be reflections of these characters updated for a movie

Well, Shazam is basically a kid, he HAS to say silly **** :lol
And Flash has a fast mouth.
GL yeah, he needs to be cocky.

Batman has to be brooding and tough as a nail.

I hope so, War was a bit out of character but it was hilarious.

I hope we see Damian in this movie universe.

I agree considering that green lantern had a lot of great source material to drawn from based of the epic Geoff Johns story lines its a shame that the animated movie was better then the live action and even that is a good representation of what I think will form the basis of all of the upcoming DC movies.

I hope in terms of Green lantern they do go all out a really utilize the story lines and really create a formidable villain something marvel can not do with the exception of Loki who I consider an Anit hero.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I certainly don't think you need humor to make a good comic movie, as the Nolan films didn't have much of it (unless you're a crazy Joker guy!) and the first two were great. And a fantastic story would be a great start if they want to continue disregarding established, beloved character traits in the misguided pursuit of recapturing Nolan's lightning in a bottle.

You're probably right. Afterall - dildo ships.

Well if by traits you mean the boy scout in blue you can kiss that good bye, but maybe a more and I know you don't like this word " grounded take " then that is future and I think that has proven successful for them in the past so I don't see why they would change that. The core will always stay the same as that is what makes these characters still around even after all these years, but just like everything audiences expectations change and stories adjust.

I remember watching Golden Eye and all those Bond movies and loving them and now they seem a bit silly and that was only after I saw Casino Royal my tastes change .

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Come to think of it that's one franchise where ''gritty'' hasn't hurt - Bond. Casino Royale, great. Skyfall, great. Having said that I still like GoldenEye, TND and TWINE. It was only Die Another Day that I felt went too overboard. Good precredits sequence though.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

to be honest I would be happy if they do the "no jokes" thing, I always thought the jokes or one liners in the Dark Knight movies were lame and cheesy and usually they didn't add anything to the movie. (Expect anything Lucius or Alfred said)

I agree with that.

But I also like:

- "does it come in black?"
- "So that's what it feels like"
- "he does that"

And some others.

Even the "this isn't a cah" :lol
