Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

Just saw that Sideshow put up a hot toys Optimus prime figure for $344.99 but no nonrefundable deposit. Falcon is $250.00 and requires a NRD why is Prime so special?

Because they know he will sell out.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

People want a non-transforming Transformers figure? For $350? No thanks.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

It's overpriced because of the extra accessories that come with it. If it was just Prime with his rifle and nothing else, and priced at like 250 or so, I'd seriously consider.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

Well consider this optimus prime as a better option that the $2200.00 statues SSC is offering.

This. I have no need for all the extra Starscream stuff. Just give me Prime.

So if you have a PO processing and you add a code to your promo wallet, will it apply it when you pay, or how does that work?

No you have to add codes when you actually order the item. Codes cannot be added to existing orders.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

So the wallet is fairly pointless.
Codes are only worth something if they happen to be active at the time that you PO.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

If an item is still in stock and you have not paid a NRD and you have not made any payments you could cancel and reorder with a code. That is all you can do on existing orders though.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

Good to know.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

The wallet is just that, a container. It's as useful as a regular physical wallet. It's a place to hold your codes so you don't have to keep them in an email or other list where you're apt to lose them before using them. Some codes last for the duration of the year, so it's nice to have them listed in one location where you can easily click to browse applicable merchandise and easily click again to apply the discount.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other stuff that has nothing to do with codes

Yes, and that's not that useful when I have a pen and a piece of paper. It would be useful if the code automatically applied to any outstanding order if it was in the time period when it was available. I see no reason why it shouldn't work that way.

SSC is basically screwing the people who pay them early with an NRD, vs the people who wait around for codes.
Another reason to hate NRDs or just shop elsewhere.
I'm sure SSC doesn't care, as they are constantly trying to hype impulse buys, (In a market of consumers prone to impulse buys) but it's something to think about.

The benefits to NOT having a PO at Sideshow outweigh the benefit of having one.
I could keep my money til release (Money that I can't get back btw), save 20 bucks, and still get the item.

They print so many of these damn things now it's never going to sell out, so missing out isn't really a concern. Even the exclusives usually convert.

Agree. Even if the code is not applied automatically, at least have a button asking if you would like to use a code in your wallet. Or at the very least have your wallet present and visible in the order page, so you can copy and paste the code from your wallet to add to the code field.

But yeah, Gakken. Many times it's better to wait and shop around before jumping into a PO. Things have changed in the 6 years I've been collecting from Sideshow. POs for exclusives would sell out in minutes sometimes. Most of the times POs for ex's would sell out in a few days to a week, so it was in your best interest to jump on them right away. Now Ex's stick around till right before the items ship, and sometimes beyond. And now the $20 codes have become routine, one a month.

But ultimately it's still a gamble. The 1/6 Ex R2s have all sold out within a day or two of the newest eligible code being available. I'm not familiar with statues and such, so I don't know if those tend to sell out faster.

I don't think Sideshow is intentionally screwing with early purchasers. Some people want to be assured that they get the piece. And believe it or not, some collectors out there don't mind missing out on $20 when they're already spending $500+ on stuff!
