Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Saw it last night, definitely the best solo Marvel Studio flick. The action and balance throughout the movie was just to die for. And the action :thud: My god... did I mention the action?!? Pushed Iron Man off the #1 spot that's been there since the beginning for me. I still enjoyed Avengers a little bit more, but TWS is w/o a doubt a close second on my MCU list.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

This is my favorite marvel movie. Much better story and twists than avengers. Really avengers plot wise was as vanilla as it gets. This one has story depth that far exceeds it. Action and set pieces were just an added bonus. Didn't expect to be so moved by the cap/TWs dynamic.

Sharon carter is awesome too.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I was thinking that last night while watching TWS, Whedon isn't really that good of a director to me, after seeing what the Russo Brothers did with Cap, I would love if they took over The Avengers films.

I've been thinking about The Avengers a lot recently, and I think I may have been too hard on it. I still stand by my thoughts that it's only an "okay" film, and that people who are madly in love with it and say it's perfect are giving it too much credit. With that being said, The Avengers is a very difficult film to make, and I think that, though it might not be the film I wanted it to be, it was the one that it needed to be. Even with the cameos between films, you've still got to find a cohesive way to bring those characters together, and, while it wasn't perfect, I think The Avengers accomplished that. I've just been thinking about Age of Ultron, and, with all of the Marvel films, recently, I'm incredibly excited for that film. Partly because everything I've seen looks awesome, and partly because I think it will be a way better film than the first Avengers was, but, I think it's sort of symbiotic because it owes that to the first film for taking a hit, if you will, in that the first film set things up the best way they could so that it'd make sense. The first act wasn't incredibly high quality, but only because the prerequisites for it to be successful held it back. With that in mind, I think the reason I'm so confident that the sequels will be better is that the hard part's over; we've seen why these characters work together, and we are now familiar with them as a team, so, sequels should be able to cut loose a little more.

I couldn't agree more, sir. This was a stupendously awesome film.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Anybody else wish the Russo bros were directing Avengers 2? :lol

I thought this movie had way better action and pacing than Avengers 1.

I can't wait for the sequel and I'm hoping its Cap, Falcon and Sharon Carter against Crossbones, Madame Hydra and Red Skull

I do. The action scenes at least.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Apparently his little 'to do' list is region specific? That's rad.

Also this flick gets mad props for the use of trouble man :rock

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I've had that and "Star Spangled Man" stuck in my head, ever since yesterday.:lol

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I also like the idea of...
Spoiler Spoiler:

This needs to happen. This was a nice step, but it would be so freaking cool to see him full on. Just seeing the face on the screen gave me that vibe.

The movie was great, right up there with Avengers and IM1 imo. Two badass suits as well. I really thought I'd like the stealth suit from still pics and it did not disappoint in action. It looked amazing on screen.

The fights were fluid and I have to say, I loved the way they handled the Batroc fight even though it was very minor compared to most. It was nice to see Cap level the field for all the good it did Batroc. :lol

Mackie and Redford both crushed it, I enjoyed every minute they were on screen.

If there were anything negative it would be the tired rotten core of the apple plot, but hey, its a CBM, if they can't use a tried and true idea, who can, right?

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

To be fair, the "rotten core of the apple" is pretty relevant in today's day and age, and one of the things I loved about it was that it kind of hit home with the theme of "security at the cost of freedom." Sure, it's absolutely not as exaggerated as it was in Cap's world, but that's one of the marks of good satire. Like Swift's "Modest Proposal" before it, Cap makes us reflect on our current state, by throwing it up on a screen at 100x its actual resolution.

Personally I think The Avengers isn’t that hard of a movie to make compare to some other superhero films. Everything in that universe has been established, the hard part was making each character’s movie good enough to warrant an Avengers film. All Whedon had to do was nail the interaction between the members, and create some awesome action. I think the action was good, but the each character in that film felt so horribly written, and their performances were even worse. When their wasn’t action, the film felt bland and dull, and it never seemed like there was a real threat. I’m in the minority here, but I will probably never like the Avengers, the cinematography is horrible, along with the acting, and dialogue.

Iron Man 1, and TWS are the only great films Marvel Studios made so far in my opinion, Thor 1 and Cap 1 were good, and TIH, IM2, TDW, IM3 and The Avengers were all seriously underwhelming.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

This film is a goddamn miracle. I don't know how the Russos pulled this off with their background but they hit this one so far out of the park there is no ****ing way I think it could be topped. Everything I loved about Ed Brubaker's run on Cap is here on screen. Hell, I think this may be the very first damn near faithful adaptation of one writer's individual run on a comic book title translated to film that we've ever seen. Bru deserves a big, fat ****ing paycheck for this beast. This is Bru's Cap on screen. Not Bendis'. Not Millar's. It's Bru's. Goddamn ****ing 'A it is! And with how big of a reset this is, I cannot wait to see what happens on Agents of SHIELD. Joss Whedon and Kevin Fiege are evil ****ing geniuses for being this mad and this ballsy to do what they've done. It's dynamite storytelling unfolding over multiple titles with pitch perfect continuity. What more could we ask for as comic book fans. I am flat out amazed by what the MCU has done. Wow!

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Like I said before, I still don't think it's that good, but finding a way for Cap and Thor and Iron Man and Hulk and Hawkeye and Black Widow to interact with each other and form a bond without it being like "so, that's it? Well, see you later. Maybe we can try Fallafel next time?" so temporary that it'd be back to square one the next time around is what I think is difficult.

Thank you sir for mentioning one of my all time favorite writers and his absolute genius masterwork that brings a grin to my face but also a sledgehammer to my head. "Modest Proposal" is righteous indignation at its very, very best and centuries later, still so ****ing relevant that its criminal. And I agree with everything you pointed out about the film. Bravo.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I love The Avengers it's still the best comic book movie I've seen. This one was pretty damn good though and in the mix for one of my faves.
