Here's my besta display. I think in going to completely abandon the idea of using doors. I was planning on using Tombo glass doors, but my local Ikea doesn't carry them anymore. Plus I don't really like the borders for the other ones.

As for lighting, I'm using the Inreda spotlights that come in 4's for around $50. I like the Inreda light strips, but they were too costly for me. Plus I'm doing one figure per unit instead of multiple figures, which the strips are better suited for I think.

Here's my display… No doors for me! ;)
There´s also videos of my collection. Click the youtube symbol below my name or follow the link to my collection thread.

Thanks for the pictures guys. You're selling me on this no door look. I just feel like if I'm doing doors that I'm going to have a few pieces really scraping the top of their "cubes" and I don't want everything looking too cramped.

I'm in your boat where I have different displays that don't line up with where the three pieces have their borders. My plan is to use one of these doors and put some plexiglass-like acrylic in place of the wood backing and take out the middle strips.

I drove 45 minutes to find out they were sold out, (despite what their online stock said), and won't be restocking until April so my project has to wait.

I did something similar by modding a VARA door. I think I posted a pic a few pages back, but you can see how I did it in my collection thread (link in my sig).

I saw that mod in your thread. Awesome job on that. I could probably pickup sheets of acrylic glass at Home Depot and manually score them. But the problem is hollowing out the door. Using a reciprocating saw and sanding it down might be too much of a hassle for me. Making a frame out of individual pieces of wood or moulding probably isn't very secure.

A router is what you use to make a cut-out in a door. ;)

:lol

I probably should've paid more attention in shops class. :slap After doing some quick research through youtube/google search, my way seems sooo ghetto. :lol

What is everyone using to hide their wires for lights?

I have the black/brown one and have been using electrical tape on the underside and down to the holes I drilled for the wires to go through and it looks fine from afar but I didn't know if anyone had a better option.

Can somebody give me info please?
I have decided to take the besta route, now I don't have the shelves equal heights they are all different due to
Various figures and statues.
Now I want to buy the glass door with silver edging , my question is can the strip be removed?
As I don't want the strip going right thought the middle of the stuff so I want to remove the strip from the bottom of the top door and the strip from
The top of the bottom door hence making it look like a solid glass door.
Or can you buy a full glass door to cover 2 best as?

The silver edging around the Tombo door couldn't be safely removed. It is the frame holding the glass panel.
There is no other option for a double door.

I was in Ikea Warrington yesterday and they seem to be having issues with the Besta. No extension units I was after. Make sure you check stock levels online before heading there.

Cheers buddy will do , you know anybody whom wants 4 detolsfs for £80.00 collected the black brown version

Around these parts (Canada and US) Detolfs go pretty quickly in local classifieds like Criagslist and Kijiji - do you have a popular equivalent serving the metro areas in the UK?

I would recommend calling the store and having them hold the piece(s) aside if they're low. Twice I've relied upon the online stock update and driven 45 minutes to find out they did not have any.

If you wire something yourself you have a lot more freedom, otherwise the tape suggestion or something similar is probably the best you can do.

I have a mix of both but it's mostly the ikea dioder and their puck lights with their white cords that drive me nuts. My only other thought was to use the plastic cable railways but I don't know that it will look any better.
