Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Again. I saw ANH like 20 years after it's release (and as I was only about 10 years old it was probably well into the 2000's before I even took notice of anything) so officially to me ANH (regardless of what the OT purists say) was the first time I saw him. When I put the Star Wars blu ray on for my kids, again ANH will be the first time they see Jabba. If the 'I saw Star Wars in 1977' group want to have a dig at anyone have a dig at Lucas for ****ing around so much with so many versions.

Yup. Understood you just fine the first time. Thanks anyways. :wave

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

A lot of those changes were just obnoxious. I mean, I like seeing the scene with Jabba out of context for like Behind the scenes purposes (especially when he was a real actor and I was fascinated by alien "Jabba" from the Marvel comic adaptation), but in the context of the actual film? Nah, I prefer hearing about how notorious Jabba is in Star Wars and Empire, then seeing him for the first time in Jedi.

I can understand that Lucas was trying to tie-in and intertwine the OT with the upcoming PT (at the time he did all this), to make for a more fluid story. But some things should be left untouch.

The only real change (Shaw to Hayden) that made absolutely zero ****ing sense. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

I'm just glad I was able to nab the 2006 2disc DVD OT releases when they were still in the stores. They had the original cuts included.

Previously, I had the 2004 DVD box set with the 4th bonus extras disc - sold those DVDs (kept the extras disc) & bought the 2006 versions.

I'm good for now. :duff

I guess Lucas just wanted to see Mark Hamill seeing Hayden Christensen for the novelty value. Still, what a slap in the face to the late Sebastien Shaw, not to mention how annoying it is to OT purists to see such a stark reminder of the PT at an otherwise powerful moment.

Actually there is a thread on here where people are getting Blu ray HD versions of the film in its original state. I have them and they look and sound awesome without the SE junk.

Remember? I want to forget!

Those DVD/blu ray changes bugged the living crap out of me. That Hayden BS, the celebration at the end of Jedi with the Prequel locations "wesa free", changing Boba Fett's voice, Han dodging the laser all stiffly whilst shooting at the same time, Vader's "nooooo" when the Emperor is shocking the **** out of Luke, Obi-Wan's mating call, the CGI rock in front of R2, etc. terrible, just terrible.

Out of all the changes, these are the only ones I like,

- R2 wandering Tatooine at night
- fixing the orange vaseline smudges under the land speeder
- the shot of the Millennium Falcon taking off
- new effects of Alderaan exploding
- added Stormtrooper lines
- matte paintings extended in the detention block
- the revised/new Yavin shots
- the Biggs scene
- new shots of the dog fight with Ties and other fighters (I hate the added amounts of X-Wings though, that was dumb)
- light saber color fixes (still never got Luke's right though)

- Wampa getting chopped up is actually shown
- effects shots cleaned up on snowspeeders and tie fighters
- Cloud City having windows instead of white walls
- Emperor hologram (not the line changes though)

- Creepy Ewok blinking

That's it.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

I can live with all the changes but

ANH: Hate Jabba/Boba Fett's inclusion
ANH: Greedo shoots first

ESB: I don't mind any changes. I love the new Cloud City and how they opened it up with windows and more mood lighting.

RotJ: I DESPISE HATE the "Jedi Rocks" musical number.
RotJ: I find the victory sequence at the end to be too sedate and boring. Bring back "YUB NUB"!!!
RotJ: Just say "NOOOOOOO" to Vader's "NOOOOOOOO!!!!!"
RotJ: I don't mind Hayden at the end but I think they could have made him less sneeringly creepy.

There were rumors that the next release would have Hayden over Shaw in the ROTJ reveal. Glad Lucas sold to Disney before that was realized. :lol

You mean for the unmasking?

The one change that bugged me in ESB was when Vader's line was changed near the end right after he fought Luke. He originally says "Bring my shuttle". He says it with such frustration and anger that it really came off very menacing. Since the SE...he says something much longer and neutral sounding like "Inform the Star Destroyer of my arrival". Don't get why they had to change that.

They also changed a line after the sea monster spit out R2 on Dagobah. Originally Luke said after "You're lucky you didn't taste good to him". Well I guess Lucas and company decided that it was too risqué to say that so they changed the line to something else which I don't remember but it was again a more generic statement like "You're lucky you got out of there".

Fortunate indeed. Although I think Lucas was feeling the hate towards his changes, I wonder would he have gone that far.

I swear I think towards the end Lucas was doing it on purpose to piss us off. :lol After he heard all the hatred towards Vader's "Noooo" in ROTS, he turns around and includes it in ROTJ. The man was either spiteful or losing his mind. I suspect a little of both.

Yeah that change in ESB was pointless, including the bits intermixed with the action where you see Vaders shuttle heading back to the Executor and landing. Because no one could otherwise have figured out that Vader had left cloud city and returned to his Star Destroyer. :slap It upset the flow and musical scoring of that whole Bespin Escape sequence.

Agree completely.

Good point. That really does make you wonder.
