I actually prefer watching foreign films with subtitles, as opposed to cheap dubbing.:lol

I can agree that SOME of it is pretty awful.

if the film is good enough, I'll TRY to suffer through subtitles.

WORST I've ever encountered was Macross Plus.... it was like the star wars opening crawl. every image COVERED by WALL OF TEXT.

I think the most recent film I watched with subtitles was a French Film called The Intouchables, which was fantastic.

I hear Jessie has a new Master to learn from...

Hey now, I'm one of the " if I want to read, I'll grab a book" crowd.

And I'm fairly well read. I read a great deal.

YES, some people use it as a cop-out.

I don't.

MINOR subtitles on a screen when one character switches to another langues is fine, but when it's constant, I find it jarring, and in some cases VERY hard to follow.

Sometimes, they can get it, but, I don't know, perhaps I just feel it's more authentic to watch films in their native language. Suffice it to say, I'm actually (morbidly?) curious about Metastasis.

I don't know, it's difficult. Subtitles can be distracting, Specially if the movie is action or something like that.

I think I rather watch a dubbed version than a subtitle version. I tend to enjoy the english dubbed version of movies more than the originals.

the way I see it as well is that, I don't speak french or Japanese (or whatever the language was) so there's no point for me to watch it in that language.
This happens a lot to me with Anime. Sometimes I can't stand the Japanese (original) version, but the dubbed version of the anime is usually much better.

some movies are worth watching with subtitles, but most of the time the dubbed versions work for me.

My point was that american people won't watch something unless it was filmed with american actors and in English.

I don't underestimate the reach. What I underestimate is the quality. I'm Latin American. I grew up surrounded by novellas. Spanish was my first language. And I say this with unequivocal certainty there is NO WAY metastasis will surpass brba in acting, writing, production or any other measurable quality.

it won't surpass it. But it doesn't mean it will be bad.
Specially for latino people that have never heard of Breaking Bad.

I wanted to show this to my uncle, But Breaking Bad dvds do not come with spanish Subtitles. So my uncle will probably see Metastasis instead :dunno

I tried, but if the dvd doesn't even have spanish subtitles, then how could I show it to him?

well, to be honest, American audiences won't even watch good movies subtitled in english. movies have to be remade with american actors so that american audiences will actually watch them. The whole (If I wanted to read, I'll read a book) People wouldn't even watch the original ring or the Grudge.

I guess the same goes for Them, Just like America cannot be bothered with reading because reading is for books only.

I could see why they would want to do this in spanish. The story is a really good story and the people behind this want to reach the latino market.

I Honestly don't see a subtitle version of Breaking bad doing well.

well i'm Canadian and I hate sub titles also. don't mind foreign ones though like Chinese etc. it like since I cant read it anyway it doesn't bother me, but in English its horrible and I almost feel ill after watching a movie that I have to read everything for.:dunno

yeah I am not too fond of subtitles BUT If that's all they have i will watch it.

it's like Watching Attack on Titan. All I could find was the subtitled episodes. But I always prefer dubbed.

Like I said earlier, my point was that, no matter how good something is, some people just will Not read subtitles. even if the movie is amazing. you cannot convince them to watch it.

Like Pan's Labyrinth. amazing movie, but a lot of people skipped it because of the subtitles.
