Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

I got my guys confused... you just quoted me before I could edit it. I was off on the planets films and thinking of Wat Tambor :lol

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

Haha, no biggie. He does actually have a part, unlike Wat Tambor lol

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

Apart from the characters, relationships, story, individual plots, script/writing, vfx, acting, direction and post-production, they're pretty good. ;)

Haha pretty much. They could honestly be taught in university on how not to make films. They're fascinating in that respect.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

It's a perfect example of why "no compromise" = crap results. Any kind of artist or designer, including writers, have to know when to say "no." Lucas was just so immersed in the whole thing that he couldn't step back to look at it objectively (I'd argue he's never had that ability) - and others involved were either hands-off or likely didn't push back hard enough. Nothing can be perfect, so it's pointless to try and tweak to the point of over-tweaking and turning the result into muddled garbage. The other possibility/danger of the ever-tweak is not releasing anything at all.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

Everyone was afraid to tell him his ideas were bad during the making of those films, it's really sad.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

With Luke and Han, Taun Taun, Greivous and the newest droid 2-pack (Security I think) the list is inching a little closer. But overall this line is moving at a glacial pace. And who knows if we'll ever see anything from Hot Toys.

I wonder if SS counts the Chogokin C3P0 and R2D2 and the Medicom Tie Pilot as part of the line and have no intention of doing their own anytime. I'm also tired of the endless clones. Pieces I'm hoping to see coming down the pipe soon include:
- Chewbacca (real hair would be the dream)
- Count Dooku
- Arena Padme
- Ep II Anakin
- ESB Leia
- Slave Leia
- Skiff Lando (smaller headsculpt)
- Scout Trooper
- Mechanical Legs Maul
- Darth Talon
- Shaak Ti
- Mara Jade
- Satele Shan
- Aurra Sing
- Royal Guard
- Senate Guard
- Tarkin
- Jawas
- Yak & Squid Face

Keep this line rolling.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

As much as I love and want Chewie, I can't see how they're going to pull of the hair. I hope they can though, I'd love to be surprised.

I'm a creature/monster guy myself, so any OT alien would be welcome. They seemed to be going that way for a bit and then stopped. I love some more cantina guys or definitely Squid face. Most of all, I'm really dying for Akbar to be released.

I don't know how realistic it is, but I wish they'd get some more droids out.

We seriously need Veers and Tarkin too. Man, there really is a lot left isn't there? I wish they'd redo Piett, but that seems very unlikely to me.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

Good artists don't have to compromise. Bad artists shouldn't make art, and no amount of compromising will change that.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

I really want a Nihilus. I'm hoping for 1/6, but if it's a PF I won't complain.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

Everyone was afraid to tell him his ideas were bad during the making of those films, it's really sad.

This was very apparent during all the 'making of' docs on the original PT DVD releases.

There's even one point, I remember, during the making of Episode I, when after he watches the final edit, he comments how the end is a mess with too much stuff going on...

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

That's quite an extensive list there (referring to the first post).. I wonder how long it will take for them to complete all of those.

These are the 1/6th scale figures/vehicles/environments I'd want the most right now, that I can think of (in no particular order):

Anakin ROTS
Obi-Wan ROTS
Mace Windu
Han (ANH + ESB)
Leia (ANH + Slave)
Chewbacca
Luke (Tatooine Farmboy + X-Wing + Jedi)
Qui-Gon Jinn
Stormtroopers
Theed soldiers
Captain Panaka
Droidekas
Count Dooku
Padmé (Battle of Geonosis + Battle of Theed)
Tarkin
Lando
Jar Jar (yeah yeah, laugh it up fuzzball, I still want one!)
Jango Fett
R2-D2
Ewoks!!!
Jawas!!!
Darth Maul (improved version, please)

Anakin with Pod-Racer
Landspeeder
Speederbike
The hovering lava platforms from Mustafar

I'd prefer it if Hot Toys were in charge of making the headsculpts of humans and creatures, while Sideshow made the armors and helmets.. but since HT are too busy with Iron Men I'd pretty much accept Sideshow doing all of these... :(

Oh and I'm also gonna pre-order the new Grevious, Han, Luke, Tauntaun, Probe Droid and a couple of Clone Troopers. Vader already ordered and paid for. It's not much. :lol

I'm confident Sideshow wants everyone to change their similar opinions, and by all accounts, they've started down the path of producing the goods to back it up.

While I love Hot Toys (and my Hot Toys figures), every single head sculpt they've ever produced is off, including Luke DX07. They're good, even great sometimes, but no one is perfect. Sideshow's ESB Echo Base Luke looks much better so far in proto images from SDCC. They've stepped up their game in a big way, we just need to see it followed through to full-scale factory production.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

I'm hoping Hoth Han and Luke look as good in hand as they seem to look at CC, where the reviews were great. In a year or two SS sculpts may be on par with HT, in which case it would be great if they revisited some of their earlier letdowns like ANH Luke, Leia, Han; EP1 Qui-Gon, Mace, Maul; Snowbunny Padme and Aayla Secura. It looks like they have developed a new female body, so hopefully they will also produce a low joint body for characters like Slave Leia and other scantily clad females. They still need to work on match HT paint apps and tailoring.

Agreed on all points. If Sideshow are going to justify those high prices they seem to be pushing out these days, they really need to step up their game. They nailed the likeness with the Han and Luke Echo Base figures. They aren't perfect but they beat the likeness of the DX07 and DX05 by miles. I hate the likeness on the DX07, don't know what Hot Toys were doing with it as they usually make good to amazing headsculpts. Maybe they rushed it? Or maybe Sideshow didn't allow them to make a too good of a figure compared to their own figures, which HT usually does. If Sideshow are going to revisit their older figures, this time they can't blow it. This time they have to prove that they can do better. The Obi-Wan Padawan, as cool as it is as a figure.. the likeness and the paintjob on the headsculpt was a big letdown for me.

Of course they won't look as good in hand.

Re: Confirmed Upcoming Sideshow Star Wars Releases: 1/6 Figures and Accessories

Maybe clutching at straws with this, a video was posted in the Batman PF thread of an interview with several toy sculptors there is allot of NECA stuff and some Sideshow stuff too on show including some new battledroids and what looks like a 1/6th scale Arc trooper helmet possibly for a second version of Echo and Fives.

The video is quite interesting, well worth a watch
