I love the show, but like Sopranos I'm not sure there is a place for figures in my collection. . .might make an exception for this guy though just because he's so distinctive looking.

I love boardwalk, its a phenomenal show and Harrow is the only character I'd want for exactly this reason he's distinctive. For me he's the best character in the show he's a total bad ***!

An aside here, but it's kind of funny how Rainman becomes the trend setter for custom work. He does these characters, and then folks clamor to get versions of them for themselves, be it the Dude, Bill the Butcher, Anton, this guy. Harrow really wasn't huge on the radar though a few boardies obviously wanted him. Now everyone wants one! :D I'm not immune. I think it's a testament to the great work he does.

Well, Scott was the first to do Bill the Butcher. His fantastic work on it was what really set the trend for the Butcher at least. I know this because I bought one of Scott's Bill's then I bought Rainmans offering shortly after.

As far as The Boardwalk Empire figures go, there was plenty of early requests for these figures... Enough at least to throw up the signals that it shouldn't be commissioned. If you check the Rainman wishlist thread or even an interest thread Ray started you'll see there was enough to get it going.

Other characters were prefered and had priority. Rainman is only one man and I guess someone didn't have the patience to wait.

To be fair though, Rainman is hit and miss with his sculpts so we probably wouldn't be having this discussion at all if that Harrow was a fail on his part.

Scott did do a figure of Bill first, but people want Bill figures now because they saw Rainman's figure. This is not a knock on Scott, just the fact that everyone wants to use the Rainman sculpt, outfit, and accessory look.

Also, just because RM makes a figure, people who have not the least bit of familiarity with the movie somehow want the figure even though they weren't crazy about the movie (after seeing it because of the figure). Its some sort of RM-there-fore-I-must-want-that-figure mentality. I'm not going to lie, I succumb to this as well (though not for all RM releases, e.g. I have 0 desire to own Alex and Wonka despite the super following those figures have, and yes I have seen both films).

:exactly: I have wonka because I loved the movie. Anton came out great but I never saw the film and have no desire to own him.

Most of the time Rainman makes a figure he has the least bit familiarity with. It's why he relies on our movie suggestions. :lol

haha good point...never thought about it from that perspective. For some reason I thought RM was just super familiar with these western cult films, guess my assumption was way off!

No, your right about the westerns. I've heard it's what he really prefers doing. Maybe he'll return to it after Bickle...I need a break :lol unless it's Django.

I got confused with the western use, But yea he's into Westerns....not so sure if he's really up on the Western(American) Cult films without some of the suggestions made to him.

Django would be amazing, I hope he gets around to it eventually.

There are about 50 westerns I would rather get figures from before Django, but I know I'm in the minority on this site.

I really don't think of Django as a real western. I'd put priorty on those figures before any other western figures though, but strictly speaking from not having a strong familiarity with real westerns.

I agree with your first sentence. :hi5:
Knowing that you are a hardcore western fan lion, I would defer to your judgment on these things. But what about it doesn't make it a real western? I think it's an unconventional one, but there have been lots of great unconventional westerns over time, going back at least to Leone's work, to Peckinpah, and in modern times something like the Proposition (unconventional in both location and the nature of the story). Is it just too much to have the QT type dialogue and aesthetic?

The minute Taranatino decided to use a Rick Ross and 2pac track for some of the scenes, it stopped being a western. :lol

I know most western aren't base on reality, but this one is just too far fetched for me. It was a fun movie, but it was,as you say, QT type. And that's how I took it. Just like Inglourious Basterds, I love WWII movies, but this one just doesn't fit the genre for me. QT is an entity on it's own. Hope that makes sense. :dunno

Funny thing is my dad always said the real Wild West didn't last more than a couple of decades, but Westerns made it seem like it was around for a long, long time.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. It is like QT's movies are all in their own special universe, and that genre is more overpowering than the drama/western/war/kung fu/crime thriller that they otherwise pretend to be.

It was a very sexy time for being so short-lived, for sure. Cowboys, indians, western expansion, civil war fall-out, lots of great room for stories.
