i think the reason he was attacked was because he was wearing a help the heroes t shirt, i dont think they knew he was a soldier.
(help the heroes is a charity to support wounded and retuning soldiers)
lots of people have those t shirts it could have been anyone

Who just happened to be outside an army barracks?
I think they knew.

No, the police are concerned that it is part of a new wave of Muslim extremist activity. Not just in the UK. And they can't police against it, completely random, anywhere, anytime, any country.. That's why the Paris killing of a policeman in similar circumstances is being taken so seriously.

So the press downplays it in an effort to...what? The Guardian just ran an article on how it appears the Swedish press are not making a big deal out of it in hopes that a lack of attention will demotivate them. The Guardian columnist thought this was a good idea. (Reminds me of how the 2006 riots in France were dealt with.)

What's next? Continental campaign to get everyone to close their eyes real tight and hope the problem goes away?

Pretty much. Thats why there is so much anger in the UK, the government are ****ing terrified the whole Muslim race war will erupt onto the streets, so they want people to do just that, close their eyes real tight.

Save that for his family. He had a 2 year old child :monkey2

It's one of those things that stops you in your tracks when you hear about it in detail and see the imagery. It's completely jaw dropping in the worst possible way. I'm Irish, not British, but I know if I was, I would be sticking Union Jacks all over the bloody place. And trust me with Irish/UK history being the way it is thats quite a statement from an Irishman. The real horror of it is just shocking, the poor mans family.. I can't even imagine.

Has nothing to do with skintone, bub. And it sure as hell isn't one man's sins.

(I'd also like to point out that there were wars long before the invention of cameras or guns.)

Oh, wait. The imperfect world is caused by cameras and guns. My mistake. Yes, the world was perfect before that. And it never went though a period where things became radically more civilized than they had been previously, and then began to slip back into primitive chaos as more and more people began to demand that the world return to the ways of pre-industrial/technological cultures. It was much better before camera and gun inventors existed. That's why we have whole societies of camera and gun owners standing around with their teeth in their mouths, waiting helplessly for the next primitive to freak out and kill people at random. Justifiably, I might add. If anyone had a contrary impression, that's because someone must have twisted it to make the knuckledragging sub-human predator look like the bad guy.

Sorry for the rant. :wave

What a jolly little thread. What I imagine was being referenced was this.....

I don't live in the UK, but spend a lot of time there. And what has happened should pretty much shock the world, as it was a blow to what we all call "modern civilised society".

Someone was brutally murdered, in the middle of the day by radical extremists. They drove their car after him, then grabbed him in the middle of the street in a heavily populated area and hacked him to death whilst dragging his body down the street. They then hacked his head off and threw it into the middle of the street.

Why? Because he came out of an army barracks, a random off duty soldier. There has been evidence of a similar killing in Paris since then. Broad daylight, bloody random terrorism.

The killers in London, stood around for a photo op, covered in the poor guys blood, cleavers and knives in hand, and told on lookers to interview them on their cell phones.

Doesn't matter what country this happened in guys, it's pretty scary stuff. They have gone from huge events like 9/11 and the London Bus bombings to picking off individuals in a ritualistic and barbaric way.

Not to be taken lightly.

I did'nt know they beheaded him.

The tv news and what I could find on you tube is really dilluted and watered down accounts of the events.

Maybe they would argue that this is to save the family and viewers distress, but I think we are all guilty of burying our heads in the sand and hoping it goes away by itself.

The worrying part for me was that these dilluded idiots and I can't stress what moronic misguided fools they really are, said that their country is being attacked and their woman were dying every day and that the uk should pull out its troops.
They were both born and bred fundamentalist islamists, with uk accents.

Thats the frightening thing to me.
These uk born brainwashed message boys think they are fighting a holy war.
You can't predict when an attack like that will happen and and on who.
Where I live in croydon, tempers are up and people are even getting tattoos like this and revenge attacks have happened on mosques and war memorials so things will escalate if not dealt with.

If it's their country that's being attacked, maybe they should get the **** out of our countries and go protect what's supposedly theirs.

My thoughts aswell, but they must beleive the **** to go that far, or thought by waving a gun around they would have got a holy death?:slap

They were dumb angry and thought they would get 72 virgins for their trouble:cuckoo:

Wouldn't a better prize be 72 porn stars?

Pornstars are impure, unlike indiscriminate murder for the sake of honoring the will of a supernatural, chauvinist dictator.

My thoughts aswell, but they must beleive the **** to go that far, or thought by waving a gun around they would have got a holy death?:slap

And the people selling them the belief are allowed to openly preach their doctrine, while those who protest are arrested for hate speech and branded as racist. I wonder how they could ever have got the impression that they were in the right...

What happened was reprehensible and I condemn it in the strongest possible terms.

However, to attack Muslim places of worship and to lash out against Muslims in any way, shape or form is also to be condemned.
Also - how is it terrorism when one lunatic murders an off duty army soldier, but not terrorism when an army murders innocent people?

If one is terrorism, so is the other. Enough with the double standards.

I was pleasantly surprised by David Cameron's statement on the matter. It was well balanced, and condemned wrong doing on both sides.

This was also nice to read about:

If certain clerics at certain mosques are preaching hatred they need to be investigated, but that doesn't mean all mosques are doing so.

Anjem Choudary is a nutjob that should be jailed.
