Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

The price for BBKill's should be $65 including shipping. BBKill looks to have learned and I'm sure he'll make sure that this one is the best it can be. The other plus is that there is something to see, we don't know what Denny can offer yet. One thing I have noticed about a lot of Iminime sculpts that I've seen is that they all seem to be undersized.

I'm more than prepared to give BBKill a chance on this one....

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

So do you guys want to see a few in-hand images of that eBay sculpt still? Because I just had one delivered 5 minutes ago.

Ok, got tired of waiting for a reply... ;) IMO, apart from likeness issues, about which we can argue for eternity, the biggest issue I have with this sculpt is the same one I have with so many - when you look at it DEAD-ON, it looks like the ear are too far back on the head and that the center facial features like nose are coming too far out at you. When you look at the sculpt in profile however it's difficult to notice this issue sometimes, I think because it's not that the ears are necessarily in the wrong place, but because the face is too pointy. To see this I shot an image directly from above and you can see a very pointed triangular appearance to the face. Keep in mind this is somewhat exaggerated in the image because of the angle and the chin sticking out at the bottom. If I can take another one quickly I'll swap it out from a more plumb position.

On a knock-off true-type narrow shoulder body using the included neck adapter (which always looks long/stupid without clothing), the height of the head is exactly 1:7 the height of the complete figure. This is proportional - good. However, this includes the height of the hair which has a slight poof. Overall the head looks a little undersized on this body without clothing. I feel it should be a little bit taller and a bit wider - which would also make it rounder giving it a more Craig-like shape. I think what throws me off the most is how wide the shoulders look under this head.

It has flaws, but I like the quality. There's absolutely no mistaking it's supposed to be Craig.

More testing on body and some comparisons coming up against a Jude Law sculpt I have on hand. The Law sculpt also measures perfectly proportioned in height, however it's noticeably bigger and looks, IMO much better on this size body. This sculpt may have to be used with a shorter body like the HT Slim...

Hey, color doesn't look horrible like I thought it'd be! The Loading Toys one looked like those eBay images and he's too tan. Got any images with clothing to see the scale issues?

He's a bit tan, but it's not too bad. I do have more photos but I won't post them until tomorrow when I have more natural light, as I want to take a few more sculpt comparison shots. In addition to the Jude Law sculpt I'm going to include the Christian Bale Bruce Wayne DX12 sculpt. I'd love to shoot it next to the original Roadshow sculpt, but I don't have that one in hand yet. My fear at this point is this is an unauthorized recast and in making the new mold, or final copies, shrinkage has made the head smaller.

Incidentally, the tan complexion is a product of the pigment of the plastics, there is very little paint app on this sculpt compared to a resin sculpt - a photo of the neck interior will also be forthcoming.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Hmm,

It isn't bad, but it isn't good either really. It's one of those, which, had it come out earlier, we may have accepted. The initial pics looked like they'd modded the face a little, though that's clearly not the case now. The most that's been done are the hair and ears and they weren't all that was off about the Roadshow sculpt.

If it's small as you say, then that is another big minus. I don't think there's any way that many of us would use a Slim for Bond.

Nahhh, it's going to be BBKill's for me, with Brother or DID as a standby if my painting skills desert me

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

You have to love ZCWO. They announce, then BAM! They ship. This 4-5 to 12 month pre-order stuff gets a little tiring.

I really like this company. I've only gotten one thing from them but I'm impressed with what I got. Can't wait to see your Bond all suited up for action!

Isn't the Roadshow head on that Blue Tux photo? The head looks small there. If this recast is smaller still, yikes.... BBKill and ZCWO are my top options at the moment.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Here he is. All I can say is, it is much better in hand than via photos. This, to me, is the best mass-produced Bond/Tux money can buy, period. I am very happy with it.

(Sorry for lack of poses. I don't like posing figures too much in case the clothes crease!)

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

If BBKill's sculpt falls through, this is definitely the route I'm taking. Looks great!

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

NO! It looks great. I really hope the printout matches the quality of the digital render. I think I'll order the Asmus suit now and start my bash while waiting for this head to be available. I'll probably have to wait an even longer time to get it painted. But I'll have it and be happy to know I didn't miss out!

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

What on earth is wrong with the head on Steve Jobs in that picture? The version being advertised on KGHobby doesn't look that out of proportion. It looks like a small jellybean that Bond is about to eat.

Well, the figure is actually a bit behind and the photo was shot kinda top down. With that said, Steve Jobs head size is a bit small to begin with...

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I've been waiting to pull the trigger on that Steve Jobs figure, I should probably ask KGHobby to add it to my existing order to save on shipping.

In a few hours I'll have some nice light coming in through the window here again and I'll take those comparison head shots I talked about last night. At this stage I'm pretty sure I'm going to resell this Craig sculpt - though I should probably wait until I have a suit to test him on. It's such a shame because the face size is pretty much right, but the overall head is too small. I'll try to make that as clear as possible in the photos.

I'm really liking that new bbkill model - I just have to see how he cleans it up after the 3D print and then how the casting turns out. At $100 fully painted it would be an easy sell for a lot of people, myself included. Having to find someone to custom paint may be trouble. I'd also like to see the model rotated top to bottom to see if it suffers the skinny face issues that are almost impossible to photograph.

I'm finding something in common with many sculpts as I look at them in closer detail. The eyes are set too far back into the brow - or the brow is far too pronounced. This is an issue classic sculptors didn't have, probably because there was no photography back then and to learn how to sculpt, many of them also became advanced anatomists. They had to actually look and touch real subjects. If you don't know human anatomy, you will never be able to create a perfect human sculpture, regardless of how large your collection of reference photos is. The Christian Bale sculpt from the DX12 is laughable in this respect. Yes, it looks like Bale, but the brow is totally unrealistic, along with the completely mis-sized and mis-placed ears. Though many sculpts get the ear size correct, many as I've hinted before, also place them incorrectly either up/down, front/back or both.

Ilovetoys, he looks awesome. I'm actually really tempted by him. It all looks really top notch, much better than the promo pics. Great presentation too.

I really like the bbkill sculpt, but it looks a little dead. I think a good paint job would fix that, though... the features really look accurate. He's so talented.

And pixelpiper, I agree with your assessment. I think a lot of sculpts set the eyes too deeply and tuck them up into the brow ridge itself as though they don't quite remember there's a skull underneath. It's interesting to read your comments on the ear placement, which is something I hadn't thought about.

What'd I miss about Steve Jobs in a Bond thread now? :lol

Yeah, the colors don't help sell it at all but the sculpt itself is awesome. The neck also helps the likeness. A seperate head/neck wouldn't be as realistic in my opinion.

I almost want two of these heads. One could be prim and proper in a tux with a martini glass; the other could be sweaty/grimy in the gray suit and a Walther in his hand. Couldn't afford it though but it'd be awesome nonetheless....

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

If only BBKill's heads could be printed in colour so they came out exactly as the render does. I have more faith in this head than I would anything Adam or Iminime can do.

I'd rather have one that was dead on rather than one that was under or oversized.
