Star Wars Live Action and Clone Wars TV shows

If the show is really done then I've got to imagine its because Disney wants Ashoka and Maul to be frozen and re-awakened for Episode VII. Freezing Maul would then have to be Palpatine's contingency plan for taking revenge on any Jedi that might later defeat him. Otherwise the abrupt ending just makes no sense.

The cancellation of the 3D releases of AOTC & ROTS would also point to this.

Let's say Maul won't appear in Episode VII. Then the entire series (Clone Wars) becomes incomplete, moot, and dismissable. As fans irritated with certain aspects of the show that can obviously be a good thing but I've got to imagine that Disney wouldn't want to just kiss away any further profits to be made from selling the series on blu-ray.

Disney/Lucasfilm also knows this (and it's more important): Star Wars is fungible, and the Clone Wars can easily be replaced. It's not at all that important. Certainly not worth worrying about when they're building a new era of canon movies, etc.

If they sense a void there... or lapsed market... they may restart the show, or just go with a new animated SW venture. But I seriously, seriously doubt they will shoehorn any of that stuff into the new movies.

Another thing to read between the lines... there has now been sufficient interviews and quotes from all parties (Lucas, Kennedy, Alan Horn, Robert Iger, Lawrence Kasdan, et al) about the future of the STAR WARS franchise and brand, including 2 lengthy meetings with Disney stakeholders. These have discussed new movies (7-9 trilogy and stand-alones) and other ventures (merchandising, video games, books, comics, new theme park opportunities, even a the potential Live Action TV show, etc) but not one single mention of the "Clone Wars" show. That's pretty telling, imho. They're moving past it. Or they might have plans to do something different with that particular market. It's almost certainly not a priority if it isn't even apparently on their radar.

Hmmm, I was just reading up on how expensive the episodes were to produce and with it being essentially a vanity project funded by Uncle George's billions it was never in jeopardy.

Maybe those blu-ray sales really DON'T make it worth it. And if Disney isn't a fan of the story arcs in the first place....

Supposedly Disney announces their 2013-14 TV schedule tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see what develops.

Indeed. And I'm a big proponent of "never say never". If a Season 6 shows up on one of the Disney networks next year or down the line I wouldn't be shocked at all. I'm just saying it's obvious that the new Lucasfilm/Disney team does not care about continuing the show a fraction as much as some fans do.

The last I heard is that Reed and Lucasfilm have an agreement for at least one more in the U.S. (hopefully in Orlando again, but no one will confirm). But they're not going to discuss it until after Celebration Europe II this Summer.

But if I were a betting man... I'd say Celebration VII will coincide with the release of EP7, and then they will continue the same with Celebration VIII/EP8 and so forth.

These actually started to be pretty profitable for Lucasfilm with Celebration V, whereas the first 4 were mainly marketing/promo ventures. There was some speculation that Disney would try to pull it into their D23 shows, but that's doubtful because LFL is operating independently for at least the next 4-5 years (plus there is the Reed contract). They will have to get Disney's blessing, though. But I don't see that being a problem. Also, the Disney connection may just solidify Orlando as the permanent home of the U.S. Celebrations (my personal speculation).

Celebration VII will happen. And likely more.

Now that I can see happening, and it would be a great idea. The LFL Animation team apparently did enough early work on Season 6 to where this wouldn't be such an expensive thing to pull off. We'll see.

So what's the world on Detours? Did Disney kill that too?

Most likely. And, damn let's hope so.

BTW, I've heard that if a Live Action series happens it may well NOT be the one Lucas was prepping. Incidentally, that was the impetus for the "Star Wars: 1313" video game coming out this year or next year, or whenever. It was initially developed to coincide with the "Star Wars: Underworld" live action show. But when Lucas pulled the plug on that (due to the production costs for each episode) LucasArts refined the game and it's even still being tweaked.

Disney did purchase the "rights" to the live action scripts that Lucas had developed. But they're talking about bringing in new writers for a potential live action TV show, and that leads some to believe that the previous show idea is also being scrapped. Why would they be looking at a potential show with new writers when there were already dozens of completed scripts? Tea leaves: They didn't like what was there.

Star Wars is getting a complete enema from Disney and the new LFL lead by Kathleen Kennedy. And, personally, count me among those who thinks this is a good thing and a breath of fresh air.

Either there will be a season 6 but 1/2 season (less episodes). OR the series will continue w/either books or comic books.
