I almost can't believe this is true. They did a complete 180 if it is, and went back to what worked with the Raimi suit pretty well. This is 1,000X better than the first ASM suit of course, but I am surprised that they're keeping the little grid pattern and raised webbing. I personally like small eye Spidey more, but also like this change.

If I had to speculate, this change is driven by concerns over merchandising and appeal to small kids.

So Nova doesn't like it.

Hahaha, damn. I guess it's true. Can't make anyone happy! (not a dig at you Nova, but it's true, I thought that basketball suit was crap and you loved it, now, it's the exact opposite).

What was your assumption about the suit again? Wasn't it something along the lines that, "haters gonna hate" when it was revealed? Well, imma seein' and imma likin'.

They changed it because of the haters of the ASM suit, now those haters like the new one, while those who liked the ASM suit were okay for some logical tweaks but didn't want a complete backpeddling.

Sony placated to the haters rather than the fans. Haters won.

Love or hate the old Raimi suit, love or hate the recent ASM suit, it doesn't matter. The movies are set in different realities. To use one suit in the other, makes no sense and completely breaks the reality of the movie.

This was definitely not the line of design evolution suggested by the first Amazing Spiderman movie, therefore I think it's a rational thing to complain about.

Precisely. A new costume would've been okay, but a step back into a costume from a different film series :dunno

Yeah, that's true. It doesn't fit with how he got his threads in the first one (online, sports wear).

Oh well. If we're going by "do you think the suit looks good, story pending", yeah, I do. True, it is a rip off of the Raimi one as Celtic put it, but I'd take that more as a "man, our first go and suit sucked, let's go back to what was great, maybe that would work".

I'm wondering if they will go the "MJ sews his costumes" route, just replacing MJ with Gwen.

Just like they gave into pressure from fans regarding Venom. Sony needs to grow a pair and hire filmmakers they trust to do what they intend on doing instead of interfering constantly based on fanboys wishes/comments/demands. This change and all the rumors of villains and this dumb mystery about his parents are all reasons I have little hope for this franchise to take off for me.

Step back? I thought the ASM suit was a stepback. This movie isn't founded in a heightened sense of reality. Batman doing ninja moves in a big rubber suit makes less sense than him wearing kevlar armor protection. I think the Arkham Asylum suit does the best job getting the comic look with that real world feeling. Nolan's worked in the context of his film (all black) but are arguably it's not very comic booky.

But what is Spidey's suit? It's a suit. A costume. It serves no function for him. Why is a basketball suit with yellow lenses more practical and a step forward in design to what we see in the comics? Raimi's costume (and this new one for that matter) work just as well in this world and have the added bonus of LOOKING LIKE THE SOURCE MATERIAL.

EDIT - What's this about how he got his suit in ASM? I don't recall that moment.

Valid point, but they didn't have to go exactly back to what worked right down to the exact same material.

This is a reaboot afterall it's supposed to be different from the former movies. They could've easily made it look similiar to the old costume without using the exact same design. Different material, flat webbing instead of raised, black instead of blue.

The way it's been done is so indistinguishable from the old movies that people associate more with that than the new movie.

We're seeing what, 20-25 percent of his costume here... Can't really say, but looks promising and yes, reminds me of the Tobey outfit.

True, can't argue with that. You're right.

The fact that it looks like the original films is a plus in my book, even if it wants to "try and be it's own thing". Maybe that's a small sign that they should have continued after 2007, not reboot it.

Sure, hardcore fans of ASM, such as yourself wouldn't agree with that, but hey, we can't help how we feel can we? Either side.

I thought the last film was crap, his duds too. Now, with this "new" costume, I'm a little more optimistic than before. As much as I liked Maguire and Raimi, it's not like they could go on forever. Now that the "untold origin" story has been told, maybe with future films with Garfield and Co. we'll just get really great Spider-Man flicks (canon, "history", be damned). Then again, we'll probably get some crazy "revelations" with Parker's history/parents.

EDIT:

I see Kara talking about toys and merchandise crap. I bought the Hot Toys Maguire Spider-Man and Black suit (even though I didn't like Spider-Man 3) but passed on that ASM basketball thing. Now with this reveal, I might buy a Hot Toys Garfield based on looks of the suit alone.

They'll be continuing the story about his parents. SM4 was supposed to be about Pete & MJ saddled with kids and him facing a Vulturess rather than Vulture. That spells as much fail as SM3, the Reboot needed to happen. The Origin was done not for us but for the kids.

Also Felicia hardy was going to be vultress which would been horrible. As far as new suit goes. It kills the first one.

Originally the first Spider-Man was going to have Doc Ock and Green Goblin, Mary Jane would be raped by thugs and Harry Osborn was going to have a drug problem. Oh, and Peter would have web shooters.

That never happened in the first one did it?

If we go by what that rumor/"official" inside info says, yeah, it probably would have sucked ***. But it never came to be, it never came along, I never heard Raimi or Maguire say that. So who knows. Who knows what it would have been/could have been, good or bad. You don't know, I don't know. What if, years from now, we get an "official" treatment for Spider-Man 4 and it's different and the script reads really well? We're not in the business so we can't say for sure.

You don't know that, I don't know that. Might have been good, might have been a different story altogether.

Remember all those "Batman 5" scripts that were written that "almost came to be". Year Ones, Batman vs. Supermans, Batman Triumphants, everyone has something different. Writers change, hell, sometimes even in the same series. Nothing is set in stone.

Spidey 4 could have been good or it could have been bad. But that's in the past. It didn't happen. We'll never know. We have to make due with this new one and hopefully we enjoy it. Personally, I'd be fine with two great Spider-Man films consecutively (1 and 2), then getting two duds (3 and ASM) then Sony going back to form and getting ASM 2 and 3 right. That'd be cool. 2 great first ones. 2 great last ones. 2 bad ones in between.

That's the exact thing, this isn't the old trilogy, it's a new canon, an alternate universe if you will. To have basically the same costume makes no sense.

Wow...you mean just like the difference between 616 Spidey and Ultimate Universe Spidey costumes...oh wait they were the same too! :slap

I love the eyes, think they nailed that and am very glad they kept the awesome ASM logo (thinking of getting a tattoo of that)

I think if the webbing wasn't raised and the material less shiny with ovals it's be less Raimi and more unique to itself.

My only issue with this is that it's not different enough to be viewed as a Garfield suit rather than a Maguire suit, big Gnarly Webshooters should help that, and hopefully the rest of the suit is different too. Eould like the red/blue fingers to be retained
