Why is uniformity between the OT and PT so hard to understand?
Its like Gentle Giant making those animated OT maquettes even though OT characters never appeared in a Tartosfky-style series. Hasbro is simply doing the reverse but with the 70's/80's style sculpting and articulation as the unifying theme.

Dude, 95% of us buying the GG Jumbo Vintage Figures couldn't give less of a damn about PT stuff at this point. Especially in a format whose appeal is based almost entirely on nostalgia.
I don't know who these hideous new Hasbro 12" figures are for, but it sure isn't us.
I remember that damn Taco Bell game during the Episode I promotion! I wonder if anyone won that?!?

I'm guessing that a hell of a lot more than 5%, hell I bet more than *50%* of GG Jumbo Kenner figure collectors also have select PT items on display as well. As I already said there's been a precedent for this sort of thing for years now. Shogun Stormtrooper and Fett (that never existed in the original Shogun line,) Hasbro "Vintage Card" PT figures (that never existed on original vintage cards), Gentle Giant OT Animated Maquettes (that never existed in that animation style,) and now this. It really isn't the head scratcher you're making it out to be.

As I already said there's been a precedent for this sort of thing for years now. Shogun Stormtrooper and Fett (that never existed in the original Shogun line,) Hasbro "Vintage Card" PT figures (that never existed on original vintage cards), Gentle Giant OT Animated Maquettes (that never existed in that animation style,) and now this. It really isn't the head scratcher you're making it out to be.
The head-scratching part for me is that this line pays homage to Vintage, but still feels like a mockery in how it's presented. At least with the GG jumbo figures, the packaging is good and retro and the figures have some good detail and paint. With these Hasbro figures, the packaging sucks and I still bet that we see cross-eyed Anakins, even at this scale.
Though, I will add that in regards to TVC (Hasbro Vintage Cards) that the PT figures pegwarmed alot more than the OT figures did. Even before the onslaught that was TPM wave. So, it's not the best example of a Hasbro "retro" idea working well in the PT.

Yeah, totally.
It just seems like a big waste of their resources to me, unless they're hoping to capitalize on the novelty party favour market.
I'm not saying I'm rushing out to buy these I just simply understand the precedent Hasbro is basing this line off of.

That some people will try and shoehorn PT crap into OT nostalgia in an attempt to make them actually fit together somehow. But it's contrived, because they're too different and the PT stuff doesn't have one iota of the nostalgic, sentimental appeal that the OT era has.

That isn't Hasbro's fault. Should John Williams have thrown in the towel and not composed awesome music that matched the scores from the OT when he saw that the movies themselves weren't up to par? I like that at least everyone else is doing what they can to retain that Star Wars magic, even if George didn't.
I'm sure Episodes VII-IX won't feel just like the OT either but I hope Hasbro still releases the new figures on classic Kenner cards. And if they want to do a few as throwbacks to old school sculpts and articulation to boot more power to them.

Maybe not to the OT generation, but I think you'll find it has plenty of nostalgic appeal to the PT generation. And they're the future!

I saw the new 12" Iron Man 3 figure at Target today - identical in design and packaging concept to the upcoming SW 12" figures. Even at the cheap price tag, I still feel like it only costs Hasbro less than $1 to manufacture. Iron Man has two primary colors and given the seven points of articulation only has about maybe eight pieces total to cast.
I mean, this is an obvious step back - it would have been a shame even back in the 80s or 90s. The Iron Man figure is standing in such an akward, forced, "stand-up-straight" pose, it's no wonder Tony Stark doesn't have arthritis being stuck in that shell for any length of time.
What's sad is that for a couple dollars less, you can get a 3.75" Iron Man figure that has all the common articulation that people know and love. The kids who might need an Iron Man of this design (no small choking hazard parts) are probably not old enough to be into Iron Man anyway.
