What do you mean "it is not Inception" ? This isn't something you only find in mind bending complicated movies, it's a standard director trope that Nolan used as well. He used that last shot with Batman in the cockpit to throw people off by making it seem he died in the blast. But of course he got away by using the autopilot WAY sooner then when you actually see that cockpit shot. Otherwise he would have died in the blast. Lot's of movies do this to fool the audience.

Do you know what it is? Imagine a movie and they show a guy who is falling out from the plane and just when he would hit the ground 2 meters away they cut for an other sequence. But than the guy survived at the end and you are like WTF? This is exactly what Nolan did in Rises. There was five seconds until the bomb goes off and Nolan showed Batman for a long period of time before that and than he cut to the Bat. I said that before and I say it again. It just doesn't work for me, because it was done in a stupid way IMO. This is not how you throw people off IMO in a movie like this. You try to play it smart write these things in a smart way and not cheap if you know what I mean. I know what you guys trying to say, but It just doesn't work. Unless in this world there is a JL and a Watchtower.

He did it to make you think he died. It's an editing trick. Nothing more. It worked right? You thought he died. And then he came back. Dun dun dun.

I never thought he died actually (He is Batman so...). But I told you again I know what he tried to do, but it just doesn't work for me. But yeah the dun dun dun was a facepalm moment for me.

I don't miss anything but I gues we just have to agree to disagree with each other. And the most improtant thing is that you like the movie.

understand the meaning of "the prestige". here is a quick example:

The pledge -- a magician shows the audience, say, a bird in a cage.
The turn -- he lets the bird disappear; the audience applauds.
The prestige -- the magician lets the bird reappear; the audience is amazed and the trick is complete.

your not shown every detail but in your mind you put things together. Nolan does this in just about all his movies.

Awesome :lol

And since it was brought up, who thought Nolan actually killed off Batman? I did. Boy was I pissed. I wasn't enjoying the movie my first viewing as much as I'd wanted too because Batman was hardly in it, I didn't understand the 8 year retirement, I was exhausted sitting through BB and TDK and having TDKR finally start at midnight, and then just when Batman shows up again it appeared he died right away. :gah:

My least favorite part of this film is not the gimmicky editing of Batman's "death" (which I agree is sloppy but it was made to give the illusion of Batman's death) but the stupid Robin name John Blake randomly has. I could do without that part of the movie. Thanks.

I think nolan doesnt seem to think in straight lines. It seems like he makes some choices while editing or cutting that, while they are not in chronological order, serve to enhance the story telling.

For instance...the bank scene in TDK(daylight). Immediately after you have the batman and scarecrow scene(nightime). Then you have batman arriving at gordon's crime scene at the bank as the sun is setting (or rising if Gordon and his men work realllly slow) Anyway...the scarecrow scene is probably actually before the bank scene but it just happens to be the second scene in the movie. It's more important to be viewed as joker intro, batman intro.

Thats kinda how I felt with the motorcycle chase in TDKR with the sun sort of maybe setting when they go in the tunnel, but it is completely night time when they get out after batman has resurfaced.
But yeah, looking back and thinking of the close up to batman's face before the explosion you assume it was way before the next shot. After all, if I remember correctly, he flies over the bridge, you see batman's face, and then he's like 6 miles away from gotham all of a sudden.

I think nolan's movies are actually really straight forward so people tend to take them too literally. I always enjoy his movies because I always forget I'm watching a movie and I'm just concerned with the characters rather than the film making.(a pretty rare thing for me, as I'm always watching how stuff is edited) So his sort of film making or even just editing works for me because as it unfolds I'm just believing what he is putting in front of me.

No you can't. Because it's in the film forever.

Actually Batman is not some magic mambo jambo. And Nolan said he tried to make a realistic Batman. And how is it realistic? It doesn't work.

Maybe that was his intention but he forgot it is not Inception.

It is realistic because Batman had a Fridge installed in the Bat, so when he lands in the water he did it inside the fridge

That's how I felt, I wanted to see a Batman movie but what I got was an injured Bruce Wayne movie, and that is okay but I wish Nolan didn't lie so much with the promos. Every promo showed batman in costume, I wish the promos focused more on Bruce Wayne and not Batman since the movie was about Bruce Wayne only.

(They are not the same, Just like Bruce Banner and HULK are not the same. They are the same person technically but You do not see Bruce Wayne fighting Bane do you? You see Batman fighting him )

was the mark on Talia, that wayne feels on her supposed to mean anything..
also if there is a spin off, i would like a Catwoman, backstory, they left a avenue for that open by not revealing too much abt her
and i think Nolan killed off any more sequels with blake as nightwing or batman by revealing his name as Robin
the only spinoff i can see is a Selina Kyle backstory

Your use of punctuation is epic.
